3 days 3 hours ago Minnesota, no Block M

That would be an especially bad idea considering the M (or, more appropriate, upside down W) adorning the Gophers helmets.   Or maybe Minnesota could wear alternate helmets with winged gopher stripes on them.

Magnus:   The link goes directly to a Sam Webb write-up on the Detrot News, not your scouting report.

OMG:  Sam Webb is Magnus!  I knew it all along.

Must've been Denard or nothing for them.   If no Denard, then trade away for more picks.   I'm not saying I agree with the strategy, but maybe it's a plausible explanation.

3 weeks 1 day ago Detroit on the board again

Detroit on the board again soon, so the Swopes or Robinson combination is still in play (for those of you who are seeking slot-type WRs).

Not sure if this is from Herm or not since he didn't sign it.   Proceed with caution.

3 weeks 1 day ago OK...I guess I'll take my

OK...I guess I'll take my lumps from you in stride.   I'm no technophile, but I do a ton of data analysis and computer programming on unix/linux systems, have used both windows and mac extensively for 2+ decades, and can generally troubleshoot most computing issues on my own.   But my Dell laptop (upgraded memory at the time, not entry level specs, etc) + Vista experience was unbelievably nightmarish and I spent far too many hours trying to "enhance" that experience by pestering technical support and researching the web for solutions.    No more Windows for me.

3 weeks 1 day ago Windows Vista

I had to also chuckle at the OS comparison between these two laptops (Mac OS 10.5 - Vista).  I bought my first personal laptop with Windows Vista.  That experience alone drove me to buy nothing but Macs ever since.   Windows Vista was horrifying.   It took me 5 minutes for my computer to load - when it was brand new.  My work laptop at the time was a cheaper version of the MBP shown in the comparison, and it further convinced me to never go back to Windows.   I'm sure Windows 7 or 8 is a much better experience, but Vista sucked the life outta me.

3 weeks 1 day ago Not sure how you diagnosed

Not sure how you diagnosed this from the video.   I watched it and saw a tremendously gifted athlete outperforming everyone on the field.   Maybe you have insider info that I don't know about.   But I also completely trust Hoke's character radar, and will continue to do so until systematiclly proven otherwise.

1. Gardening.

2.  Enjoying the sun's warmth on my face for the first time this spring in the upper midwest.

All-in-all, a great weekend ahead.

Definitely go and give us your post-Rivals thoughts in diary format.   I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts.  I've never been - and don't have an opportunity to see one nearby my home -  so I'm living vicariously through you.   No pressure whatsoever, but just know that my weekend now depends on you attending.

3 weeks 2 days ago Further Donnal quote: NBA player emulation

I highly encourage everyone to check out UMHoops' Donnal interview.   My favorite quote:

Is there any NBA player out there that you try to emulate in your game?

“No, not really, I don’t think so.”

I love this. He's his own man, and seems downright level-headed.

3 weeks 3 days ago This is the year that I

This is the year that I really thought Izzo would take a chance on a SG from Iron Mountain.   He has plenty of room in this class, and it would make a compelling storyline for the TV producer-types.

3 weeks 5 days ago Wisconsin = TE

Wisconsin has produced a ton of NFL-caliber TE talent in recent years, too, so this was an exceptionally good get against big-time schools.   I know nothing about how the new Badger HC utilizes TE's, though, so maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree.   But he would be silly not to keep that TE middle screen in the playbook.  That damn thing worked all the time.

3 weeks 6 days ago Lewan's arm

Love the Lewan shot.  The image is gritty and symbolically captures the Hokepoint.   Not a true double Hokepoint, but still very cool.

4 weeks 2 days ago Canine anal glands

I seriously broached this topic at dinner a few nights ago when our dog emitted a funky smell.

My spouse:  "Where did you get this information"

Me:  "MGoBlog, I think"

4 weeks 2 days ago See previous post.   It makes

See previous post.   It makes a lot of sense to play GR3 at the 3 and McGary at the 4 from a professional development standpoint.   It may have been a huge selling point to keep them both here another year (maybe not...obviously pure speculation).

If Irvin is as good as advertised, he'll get his minutes.   The Irvin/Stauskas/LeVert combo allows for a lot of flexibility...one of them may even play point forward under certain circumstances (foul trouble, injury, etc.)

4 weeks 4 days ago I think this only becomes a

I think this only becomes a valid option if we lose McGary and GRIII.   If we lose all 4 players, here's our roster:

PG:  Walton, Spike

SG/SF:  Stauskas, Levert, Irvin

PF/C:  Horford, Morgan, Bielfeldt, Donnal

That's still a roster full of viable B1G players, but man alive the depth is thin.  One injury ruins everything with only 9 scholarship players.  I would definitely comb the transfer wires for Luke Hancock or Brandon Wood-type players to fill some minutes and provide much-needed depth.

How do you prepare for this type of NBA roster turnover?   I guess John Calipari - and maybe Tom Crean - knows.

I would love to be a potential walk-on next year...lots of opportunities.   Maybe Freddie Hunter has an age-appropriate son to bolster our roster?

Good luck, Tim.   You were a key cog in bringing our program back to national relevance.   Godspeed in your NBA quest.

Tie your laces tight, Zak Irvin.  Major minutes are coming your way.

4 weeks 4 days ago Wisconsin's Jacob Pedersen is

Wisconsin's Jacob Pedersen is the cream of the U.P. crop over the past (insert large number) years and more than makes up for the lack of dots in the U.P.   Maybe Dean Altobelli, Spartan safety in the 80's, is the last significant B1G contributor from above the bridge?

5 weeks 2 hours ago Work-out vids on You Tube

I remember those YouTube videos of Trey working out before he came to UM.   That was the first inkling for me that we had something special on our hands.   And guess what, Trey?  All the hard work paid off.   Congrats to you.  Thanks for representing the UM family so brilliantly.

5 weeks 2 days ago Scooby Doo

I think he did plenty of "cameos" on Scooby Doo cartoons back in the day.   That's how I first knew about him.   He was an upgrade over Don Knotts.
