No you silly sod,
MOAR

No you silly sod,

MOAR WITCHES!!

Carlisle HS in central PA 85,86,87,88 State Champs

I lived 1 mile from the Carlisle HS boundary (a city of only 18,000)and therefore had to play AGAINST a team that ran off 4 straight PA AAAA titles, going 118-11 in that span. Their core group during that run was: SG Jeff Lebo (starter/sharp shooter for UNC, drafted by Spurs but left NBA aspirations for grad school/coaching, now head coach at ECU), PF Billy Owens (Syracuse/NBA), PF Lee Woodall (long time Pro Bowl NFL Linebacker), PG Michael Owens (Billie's older brother and Syracuse football star RB), and a couple 6th man types that ended up at smaller D1s.

Really? And the 2 guys above and below aren't negged...

Or commented back to for the same basic statement?

More like "How to continue to overuse a simplistic meme of bashing WD" by Blue Cube. Get over it.

Not so much an overreaction now is it?

They blow.

They give that boxers showing with droopy jeans look.

Like the bottom solid color is drooping 4 inches and showing of different color underwear.

What if the 2 foul thing isn't about "protecting a player"?

What if it's about policy... As in designed and known by the players to discourage fouling?

Get 2 fouls, you sit, period. It may be what he deems necessary to instill such a "don't foul" ethos in total. A team just doesn't end up with one of the top FT disparities and fewest fouls, so much as to have a reputation for it, by accident.

Sure it's draconian, and no one has to "like it" except the coach. It's like the parenting equivalent of one set of parents yoinking their kid from what he's doing after the first warning, vs the annoying kid who gets told "no" a thousand times with no actual consequence and therefore continues to be a little gremlin.

While I'd argue there should be rare exceptions, like the Burke/Spike championship game above, does this season/situation seem important enough to try and save by compromising policy? If anything, the notion that the players themselves will realize their fouling could impact both their playing time and impact a game to the point of a loss just solidifies the point.

**THIS IS NOT TRUE, YET...

A committee within the SC House recommended it. It would still need to be voted on, and passed, by both the SC House and SC Senate. There is a lot wrong with the school's financial situation... Rumors of misuse and corruption. The final straw was when the school submitted its current year budget, including in it a request for State funds to help pay back a previous loan from the State.

Many think that it will be partly adopted, with the entire Administrative, Trustee, etc staffs being fired. However, most think in such a poor, underperforming academic state (at least rurally), and as SC's only HBC, it will never pass in full.

This goes far beyond sports here, it would be a huge loss for those who use it to escape the only other options awaiting them.

Preferences on bologna?

Saw the chicken n pork on the label in pic. Is that the go to for this? Any other favs?

Is there a place all these recipes are stored?

Just wondering if there is an easy way to go back and retrieve these? Did I miss a "home" for them? Didn't see one under the "useful stuff" tab. If not, it's my suggestion we do so.... Too much good stuff in these, not to separate links too them. Also, would give a great place to give our sponsor a header/ permanent presence....

What exactly do you recommend , as far as "aging" goes?

Holding onto a case, in dark, temperate place for ? long....

Somewhat... Definitely still traditional grocery....

Just with some nice add-ins... Not so specialty though to quite compare to Whole Foods...

No, was our first question too when we heard...

I'd call it a "fancy" grocery store, only comparable one I know is Wegmans in the northeast. Has your basics, but adds the beer garden with rotating draft selection by the growler, a specialty sausage market, pretty good sushi selection, and enormous produce selection. They try to blend everything to a local flavor too... A lot of fresh seafood from the "Murrells Inlet (local) Seafood Dept", the breads are "low country bakery", etc.

Appreciate the suggestion.

I'll look for it, not sure if there were specialty choices there or just the year-round ones. Saw the two I've heard mentioned most and flipped a coin. Saw on the website there's a new one coming called Dark Penance, that sounds right up my ally... Hoping too see that, though bourbon = good too! thanks.

Hate what basketball has become with the "new rules"

Especially for teams like us with old school coaches,,,

Teams that played great "help" defense: There is no more "help" defense... only fouls waiting to be given for any such attempt to do so. No more reward for squaring up on a guy driving... Only a blocking foul half the time blown before contact anymore because it's assumed.

Teams that play great perimeter, shooting, and ball movement offense: Congrats, try to get clean looks anymore by just moving the ball and kicking it to good shooters. In this era, defenses have learned to play way outside and cover you. There's no benefit to sagging off to help, because you can't help anymore. If you don't learn to put the ball on the floor and beat someone one on one to the hole... you won't win against those who do.

College hoops has become the mini NBA. Guys like Jabari Parker going to the rack ala mini Lebron, or even a Stanford point guard who knows to just run off people's shoulders (any M big) or just flat out through tem (poor Spike), will succeed wildly. Guys who settle for contested 3s or only drive trying to avoid contact will have a tough time.

Watch out! The ELPD is as we speak....

trying to determine your identity to seek you out for inciting riot.... You're very close too "suggestive" there...

It hit the cross bar support in the side of the net...

And ricocheted up, into the corner. Caught my eye too...

Perhaps for the bulk of mgoblog...

The "interesting" part is the information disseminated... Perhaps you should examine what exactly your interesting part is. It seems lately a lot of folks have found it to be their own words/opinions.

No one is suggesting they have to change what they think, or how they feel. Just maybe they should think before so adamantly voicing displeasure with how the site goes about disseminating such info... It's very point for being. Opinions and free speech are guaranteed,.. Posting them on someone else blog may not be.

How about in the very comment of yours that I replied to above?

"That's what puts food on the Cook table."

Seems easy to pick out. It's something you and others always fall back on. The idea that he captains this conformity-laden vessel called mgoblog, solely for the sake of $$.

It may not have been relevant to the original topic, but as usual, when it came to defending your opinion, you went straight to the notion that you're up in the higher moral ground crow's nest, while he is in your theory ignoring the moral rocks while navigating to Dollar Island.

It's a DISSERVICE to someone/something that has always been first and foremost a labor of love, and I can't believe none of you realize it/are more thankful for it. I certainly wouldn't have had the patience to keep some of you around.

Some ghost accounts would be welcome.

I don't care to comb through MGo archives for threads to support my belief, and it wouldn't be worth it anyway, as you are indeed delusional. (This truly isn't about just you, but you are the one currently discussing it.)

You and others have indeed taken tone or stance against people numerous times on this board. Yes, perhaps there are some like Section1 who go out of their way to rankle your feathers... Most times however it's one of you just trying prove less worldly/savant some poor poster who disagrees with you. You are indeed either delusional if you don't realize your actions, or, you truly take some form of perverse enjoyment from it, sitting there playing dumb while cackling aloud and rubbing your hands together behind your keyboard.

The fact that any of you have provided witty, insightful material at times does not excuse your normal behavior. Condescending attitude does not jive with acting like you're somehow taking the higher moral road all the time.

Finally, the whole "Brian isn't fair because he's only worried about making money..." meme is just tired, and naive. It's an easy cheap shot. It's the ultimate example of trashing someone while sounding righteous. You and most of these others need to decide if you can post in a civil manner, or move along, or get caved by The Man. If it's so like living in a dictatorship around here, for your own health and peace of mind, find a nicer sandbox to play in.

Uh, you're missing a big point...

That section across is paying FULL PRICE. The problem with the students is they're getting a discount AND not showing up, when those seats could be sold for full price.

Now, I agree that in terms of looking at JUST paying ticket orders, things need to change too. There should be some sort of loss of priority points for every unused ticket. This would encourage even wealthy tix holders to make sure their tix are used, creating a full environment. Or, less prestigious fans might start to creep by them in pecking order if they are truly dedicated.

Do people understand student policies at other schools?

As in BEFORE they start bitching about what options they have?

Try Duke, specifically for BIG games like UNC:
A) Buy expensive regular tix like everyone else and get to see whatever you want, or
B) Go for free - no cost whatsoever student tix - by camping out in tents weeks in advance. Requires teamwork and coordination (read DEDICATION) among student fans. I.E. if there isn't someone in your tent at all times, GONE to back of line. If majority of tent occupants (6) aren't there for random nightly check-ins, GONE... Or get in Walk-up line 48 hours in advance as 2 person team (1 must always be in line), and HOPE there's even a chance to get in if the tents don't fill up the section - you will NEVER get in for a big game. The whole thing is run by the STUDENT GOVT. it is CLEAR to all students how serious fandom is, and if you ever wonder why the CRAZZIES are what they are, try and wrap your brain around this.

Too much to handle? How about Kentucky? Simply a lottery. You must show up on the designated night and HOPE to be called in the lottery. Only then can you buy student season tix. There is NO "just buying them". It's not hard to imagine that with such limited quantities, people (other students) are chomping at the bit to get any tix the original winners don't want. I.E. ensuring a passionate, dedicated to showing up student body at games.

In this day and age of athletics, UM is lucky to have 2-3 sports it's students care so much about, but even the students must realize that space is at a premium. If anything, the loose, generous, entitlement type system in the past was horribly outdated. Welcome to the new world. Student perceptions will change, albeit grudgingly, but if UM proves to stay succesful in its sports, no one will care soon.

Why is it being said it's unlikely to med shirt him?

It doesn't matter if he red shirted already. If you have a year taken away from you due to injury, you're eligible to apply. Look at guys like Hummel from Purdue, etc. Even kids that have transferred, sat their transfer year (I.e. their red shirt year), then got injured at their new school, still get medical red shirts.

The only thing that typically prevents it is if the athlete plays part of a season. I.e. if he CAN come back, and we play him, obviously that'd kill all hope.

Yeah, I couldn't get past PG...

Jalen, or Trey???

THEY ARE FRESHMEN!!!!

Good Lord, give it a rest!

Tell me what you've read about any of the kids who've come into the program the past year.  "Great ballhandler", "phenominal shooter", any other offensive term.

Ever remember hearing we signed a "lock down defender"?  There's a reason for it.  Kid's are recruited on their size/ability on offense (usually WITH the ball) or inside presence. They LEARN defense, in a system, it takes time.

This year we're lucky to be where we are defensively.  We've hit the wall physically (as freshmen do if they play a lot early) at this point, because the length of season and physical demands are mor ethan they've EVER encountered before.

Morgan's injury hasn't let him return to form (like McGary's earlier).  Stauskas and Robinson's recent struggles are due to the wear down that occurs by this point.  The "freshest" guys out there are Levert and McGary b/c they've played tons less.

We will be fine next year, just on experience and conditioning alone.  The ONLY "fix" that could help right now is moving GRIII to the 3, which requires not only 2 of our bigs to take the 4 and 5, but finding a suitable swap for THJ and Stauskas at the 2.  It's not something Belien's seemed to want to do.  Maybe next year with healthy bigs and Donnal adding to the mix...

Relax and enjoy the ride... if anything, losing gave us time to rest and heal (Morgan/THJ).

Definitely toned down in the pics vs live...

These are more, "Oops, I stepped in mint chocolate chip ice cream" vs the toxic green I saw last night...  Maybe the "sports" setting on the TV has the contrast too high?!?!?  It's night and day, glad I'm not the only one...

EDIT:  This pic's better, and BONUS - alt shorts for "dark unis"...

You mean these?

I still say I'd take these (UnderArmor) "board shorts" over that Adidas stuff.  Again, at least has some vague tie to reality, even if it's just "Hey, everybody in the pool, we in South Florida!!"

Finally some pics on the interwebz this morning...

I don't know man...

I think I'd even take UA before Adidas. I can get behind the whacked out Maryland crash dummy unis before what I saw tonight. It at least had purpose, based on state flag etc.

They're worse than the green ones above for sure.

The all white with the toxic green numbers and trim is something I just can't convince myself, "but the young kids of today really love them." The Cincy ones looked way worse live than above as well.

Look, I didn't mind some of it, I even like some of the...

crazy alt unis, but it gone too far. Beginning to seem like it's a contest to see who can go the farthest before schools actually say, "no thanks."

Reach or not, his 40 time sealed it.

Lions need a DB and the only question was his speed. He's a Lion, unless someone else takes him first. Seldom a more sure bet.

UM wins 78-63.

If you count Maryland yet...

#4 was C Alex Len (7'-1") from Maryland;  Oladipo as mentioned above;  and no G Harris.

Nice pick up for the T-wolves in your site's draft...

BOTH GRIII, and Hardaway....  Although Burke to Boston??? Yuck!

AND the Pistons taking DeShaun Thomas in 2nd round???  I don't like this draft!

Irvin's been tearing it up though too...

If Walton/Irvin give us Burke/Hardaway-like freshmen seasons, we may be OK and then some.  GRIII will be the tough one to fill so soon.  I personally agree with above notion that GRIII stays, seeing more touches next year with others gone, and a potential lottery pick.

We'll see.

"stupidly so, by his height"...

Agreed.  It's like they think he's the NBA's Russell Wilson...  I just don't get it at PG... Chris Paul hasn't done so bad...

Don't know if surprised is what I'm thinking...

2 years younger, shooting better, more physical (getting to rim and monster rebounding)....  all for two guys same size otherwise...

Saw a report that its 1.2 mill/yr, to be announced Tues

Up from 0.5 mill currently at MSU. Sorry no link, don't know how to copy/paste on kid's IPad.

Am I missing something? This does not appear to change much...

In so far as transferring AND playing immediately. It says the transfer can occur only if the student athlete has the newly enacted gpa (more restrictive). It only allows for immediate playing IF the former coach "permits" it.
The gist I get is that athletes can now transfer and be on schollys right away (to keep their education costs covered) but they can't play (e.g. the "tied to practice or competition piece") unless they obtain permission from previous coach. Why would all the "source" schools, whether mid-majors or not, suddenly just start allowing whoever wants to transfer a free out? Coaches will say "No", except it very few, special circumstances. The majority of transfers will likely still have to sit out, after not having their coach OK it, as they do now.
If anything, I see this as a potential Sabanesque way for the bigger programs to dump kids. Previously, convincing a kid to leave would've entailed the kid sitting out a year, since there's no I-AA equivalent in basketball to go to for he sake of escaping the transfer rule. Now, that's gone, just tell the kids he won't play and you'll happily sign off.
Am I wrong to read this as the 2.6 trumps the previous school's permission. I'm reading the 2.6 as giving you the OPTION, only if the coach says OK.
