|9 hours 25 min ago||It's a shame that this needs to be said||
but Coach Beilein is an amaizing coach and we're lucky to have him.
|9 hours 28 min ago||Point of strategy||
I think Beilein should have saved that last timeout when we got the ball back down four with ~5+ seconds to play. His play was nice to get Irvin an open three, but if you're playing to actually win the game, you have to score four, and you need two possessions unless NW commits a major boneheaded play and gives up a three point shot with an And-1.

the use of moving the ball upcourt with the clock stopped as the buzzer draws near.
I think a team is more likely to score if it inbounds the ball from near halfcourt with 2.4 seconds left than if it inbounds the ball from underneath its own bucket.
Now we only had one timeout left when NW tied it up, so the players would have had to have been taught what to do in that situation. But watch three Michigan players walk with their backs to Spike as they approach halfcourt as Spike calls Michigan's last timeout with the game tied 59-59 with 2.4 seconds left. (Spike really had no choice.) Had one of them made themselves available safely, by getting across half court and then coming back to the ball to be sure no one from the opposing team could intercept it, we could have called an immediate timeout and had the ball out of bounds near mid-court with about 2.0 seconds left.
The subsequent inbound will likely be caught within 2.0 dribbling seconds of shooting range. At the very least, if no one was open, then Spike could just call "Fire" or something, toss it to the NW free throw circle, and let the clock run out. That's the worst case scenario.
You have to move the ball with the clock stopped. It could have been done twice. By calling timeout before an inbounds, we limited ourselves to one opportunity to move the ball upcourt with the clock stopped (and we blew that, too.)

|1 day 11 hours ago||And a bit of trivia about the cast||
All four of the actors portraying the bumbling German characters were Jewish (Colonel Klink, Sargeant Schultz, General Bulkhalter, and Major Hochstetter).
* Werner Klemperer (Colonel Klink) was the son of conductor Otto Klemperer, a Jew who left Germany in 1933 when Hitler came to power.
* John Banner (Sergeant Schultz), an Austrian Jew, was touring with actors in Zurich, Switzerland, in 1938 when Hitler invaded Austria. Unable to return home, he emigrated to the United States.
* Leon Askin (General Burkhalter) was an actor in Germany when Hitler became Chancellor. He was dismissed from the theater and was later arrested and beaten by the Gestapo. He fled to Paris, and emigrated to the United States in 1938.
* Howard Caine (Major Hochstetter) was a Jew born in Tennessee.
* Robert Clary, who played a French prisoner named Corporal LeBeau, had actually been imprisoned for three years in a Nazi concentration camp. Clary is the only one of the main cast that is still alive.

And I take it that "strictly in jest" also applies to your use of 'alright', which is such a common mistake that it is gaining acceptance as proper usage.
For example, Microsoft Word doesn't underline 'alright' in red to indicate that it is a misspelling.

In fact, ifffffff we somehow manage to beat Maryland, I may end up being a Sparty fan vs IU hoping that a 10-8 Michigan can over take a 9-9 Indiana for the 7th seed, which wouldn't face the #1 seed (Wiscy) until the Finals.
I know, it's a long shot, but if we can somehow pull off the huge upset at Maryland, closing out with victories over Rutgers (home) and Northwestern (away) is doable. And Indiana would have to lose their last two games, both at home vs Iowa and MSU. Possible. And we'd have to be in front of Illinois--presently tied w/ Michigan at 7-8--which has two likely wins at home (vs NW & Neb) and one likely road loss (@ Purdue) left. Or win the tie-breaker against the Illini if they also win out.
|6 days 22 hours ago||Elite athletes make elite cuts/movements||
It was during an untouched sharp cut at the goal line that Drake Johnson tore his knee (ACL?) last year at the goal line versus Ohio State. Touchdown, but too much strain on the knee.
And have you ever seen some of Barry Sanders moves? I remember one in which in real time he appeared to just stop in front of the defender as he was going left, and then start back up, leaving the defender completely flat-footed. How did that freeze the defender so completely in stone?
Well, in slow motion, it showed Barry not just stopping, but cutting back to the right by pushing off with his left leg. Then somehow, with only his left leg on the ground he changed directions and went left instead. I guess that requires enough friction with the ground and incredible inner and outer thigh muscle strength to overcome the torque to pull that off. I've also seen Isiah Thomas do it. Me? Never even dreamed of making a move like that.

AFAIK Mike Weber is staying at Ohio State.
Anyway, Wilcher's comments were not helpful to anyone at Cass Tech unless he wanted to throw a bomb to help Weber get out of his LOI, which doesn't appear to be the case. Inside words.
