I don't follow the NBA enough outside of the big games and the playoffs to know...so yes, I'm serious.
|1 day 10 hours ago||Now...||
...Do you guys believe me when I say Chatman is more of a 4 in Belein's offense than a 2?
He's a SF, but he's more likely to play "up" than "down."
|1 day 10 hours ago||Or...||
He just just wants Gardner to work his ass off this summer rather than get complacent because he knows he's already the starter.
|4 days 19 hours ago||This all looks good...||
...and I agree 100%
But I still don't breathe a "sigh of relief" ONLY because I would've loved to redshirted 2 of the freshman.
Having J-Mo and even Horford had he stayed, would've be invaluable.
Max B is the wild card, if he can get good enough to truly earn significant minutes (not A LOT...I said significany, as in playing when it matters)...then this allows us to chose the better of Wilson and Doyle and the other can redshirt.
I don't think that is out of the relm of possibility, Max is certainly capable of that role.
|4 days 19 hours ago||If he's better than the late pickup...||
He certainly will be and Walton will move to that SG spot for some minutes.
|5 days 4 hours ago||You must not have read what I wrote...||
Because you said what I said...
|5 days 4 hours ago||You're right...||
I'm the moron.
Don't I feel sheeeeepish.
|5 days 5 hours ago||I'm not opposed to 40 bowls...||
...but they should play the bottom 20 bowls...now. I don't care if you've lost seniors and don't have freshman.
Play them now and give me something to watch this time of year.
I bet they'd get more viewers too...
Rather than play a spring game, but fill the bottom 20 bowls after the regular season and just play them in April.
Who cares about anything else, this is about what is best for ME.
I don't want to watch a shit bowl bowl in December, but I'll damn sure take it in April. Let's spread the wealth. You're more likely to have better weather too.
I watching Michigan/OSU '97 on ESPN Classic TWICE today. That's how bad I want college football. I didn't even know I still had ESPN Classic and saw that The Game was on and accidently turned to it twice and each time ended up watching the remainder of the game.
Make it happen NCAA.

I prefer Reasonable Doubt as well. The Black Album would be #3 in Jay-Z's catalog IMO.
|5 days 7 hours ago||+1 for "The Battleship"||
+1 Funny indeed.
|5 days 14 hours ago||All I'm saying is...||
...it's not everything.
You all keep saying "We have x amount of guys over 6'8...we're good."
That doesn't tell you the whole story.
OSU could've said that last year and added 2 guys to the 6'8+ list that don't even play in the post.
THAT is my point. The argument doesn't tell the entire story. It's short sided.
Give me a post that is 6'7 250 over a kid that is 6'9 200 any day if it's equal skill level.
|5 days 15 hours ago||I wasn't commenting on player style...||
I was just commenting on knowing how to take a player late and what to look for in whether he's going to be good/be able to contribute or not.
As for style...I've always said the ONE thing I wish Beilein would do more is go away from "his system" with 2 scholarship players on the team (not per year).
One long, athletic, pure driver, defender, "head down and go" type player on the wing...doesn't matter if he can't shoot 3's. And one big, wide, tough, rebounding, low post player.
Even if they're your 8th and 9th scholarship players...always have one of each on the team.
Because you need these guys in certain games. We had games last year where we flat out couldn't defend the perimeter...it would've been nice to have a guy who could match up with the Devyn Marble, Brandon Dawson, LaQuinton Ross and Lenzelle Smith types. You're not going to get a guy as good as those guys, but maybe you can find someone who can match up with them a little because the Robinson's and the Irvin's are just overmatched in those situations. Just like CJ Leslie 2 years ago.
Then, also have one guy down low who can just be tough, give you some decent minutes in a UK type game. We always have enough scoring on the perimeter...so having a guy like Jordan Morgan, even a sophomore year version is valuable in some of those games.
And maybe by their 4th or 5th year, like J-Mo, they develop into a pretty damn good player. If not, I don't think it's a waste because you weren't relying on them anyway.
Now of course if you can get a guy who can do EVERYTHING including these things, you take him, but I would just make sure natural toughness, length, rebounding is something always on the team. Not something you go into the season trying to create.
In the same way, I think Hoke always needs at least one smaller slot WR on the team. Not in every recruiting class, but just one Odoms, Dileo type guy.
But hey, that's just me. I just know if you trade Morgan for Smotrycz this year...we only maybe win the B1G and we don't get past the first weekend of the tournament...we'd just be too damn soft. J-Mo said it himself about not being punked, well, he was the only one on the team that had enough natural size, strength, and toughess to do that.
|6 days 4 hours ago||Wow.||
And we're his top school.
So looks like if he gets an offer, he's the commit. With the way we judge talent...I have no problem with this whatsoever...how could I or anyone?
Get him on campus, let him work out and see what he's got.
I hate the blind "I don't care who's on the team, I trust Beilen" comments. That's malarky.
However, in THESE situations, you absolutely trust Beilein and the staff, they know how to identify and develop talent.
So you can't just "trust" that they're going to make everyone better right away and we're always going to be good. It took Morgan 5 years to truly be a great basketball player. He played all 5 under Beilein.
However, you can trust that if they take a late commit after seeing him in person...the kid can play.
If they see him and he can't play...he goes to OSU and comes off the bench with crazy hair and then leaves for Europe.
|6 days 4 hours ago||Which isn't tradition...||
...but actually kind of cool.
Generally you're off and you have New Year's Day to recover or continue drinking. Games will be over by the time the NYE stuff really starts so I think it would be fun to watch meaningful football until 10pm and then start the traditional NYE stuff.
I really enjoyed the Texas A&M/Duke game last year with all my friends as we were getting going for the night. Having "bigger games" would actually be kind of cool.
Basically it's taking away those random BCS games on the 2nd, 3rd or 4th where it's just ONE game that night and you have to come home from work/school and watch and there is no atmosphere because you have to work/go to class the next day.
No one stayed up and watched UCF/Baylor this year not only because no one really wanted to watch that game anyway, but also because it ended after midnight on a work/school day (I believe). Move a game like that to NYE and everyone is watching during their party or at the bar or wherever.
I remember Stanford and Oklahoma St. played in the Fiesta Bowl a few years back and it was an AWESOME game, and I was fighting to stay awake because I had work in the morning. Would've loved to have had that game on NYE.
|6 days 4 hours ago||I know you're not saying that...||
...you wouldn't be so silly.
But I'm saying their games are COMPLETELY different. Irvin, to me, is A LOT more GRIII than Stauskas.
He's a guy that can do some of everything. But Stauskas was ELITE with the ball in his hands. Irvin is going to knock down some 3's, get some put backs, maybe he takes someone off the dribble every now and again, find a hole behind the defense for a dunk, play decent defense on a SF and struggle on a PF, likely be inconsistent.
That is like GRIII's career in a nutshell minus the highlight dunks.
Stauskas was a PG for us at times, the offense ran through him, he could create for himself and for others.
LeVert is more likely to be the next Stauskas, not Irvin. Even though, I'm not sure LeVert can do it either...he's got the skill set, but one of his strengths is playing out of a traditional rhythm --- it's hard to play off someone like that because they're a little unpredictable with the ball. He's going to pick up a lot of fouls because of it, but I think it's harder to be a great passer because of it too.
Anyway, if you're looking for plug and play...I think your best guess would be LeVert for Stauskas and Irvin for GRIII. McGary for Morgan. The question is...who becomes LeVert, do Albrecht and Walton play more together or does Donnal get those minutes...either way, THAT is where the team really changes. Either you have two PGs or you trade last year's LeVert for Donnal and become more post oriented.
|6 days 5 hours ago||STOP WITH THE HEIGHT!!!!||
Jordan Morgan just showed you ALL that height is overrated and you need SIZE. You need weight, shoulders, chest, strength to play the position.
I can find you 6'8 guys all over the country who play GUARD!
Height is NOT everything.
I'd much rather have a J-Mo than a 6'10, 200 kid who is just going to get pushed around.
Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson, Rodney Hood, Cleanthony Early, TJ Warren, CJ Fair, LaQuinton Ross, Doug McDermott...
ALL OF THESE GUYS ARE 6'7+ AND NONE OF THEM ARE COLLEGE CENTERS!
Height does not mean everything...especially for guys who are skilled enough to play other positions. Saying Mark Donnal is 6'8 tells me NOTHING other than he's tall.
|6 days 5 hours ago||LOBSTERS!!||
How can you forget about Smotrycz!?
But you're right, he's not a C and people REALL need to stop trying to make themselves feel better by making him one.
He's not thick enough, it's not his game, and we'd get DESTROYED inside if he played C (just like we did when Smotrycz played the 5). McGary, Doyle and Max and his huge calves will have to hold down that spot.
Donnal is your 4. Which you need anyway because GRIII is leaving.
I can't even imagine playing a team like '14 UK with Donnal on the floor instead of Morgan. We got rolled on the boards WITH Morgan...it would be mansalughter if Donnal was our best big man option. That's just not his game.
And so what about his height...there are 6'9 SG's around. Wiggins is tall, he's not a C or PF. Dirk is tall, he's not a C. Hell Ralph Sampson was 7'4 and played PF for a lot of his career!
You need some girth.
Edit: Was beaten to the punch, but same point...Smotz was a stretch 4 who struggled HORRIBLY when he has to play the 5 and ultimate transferred because of it. He thought he was a 3/4 instead of a 4/5 who had to play 5 far too much. Not saying Donnal would leave, but he shouldn't be playing more than a couple minutes a the 5 spot and those should be late in the game when the other team is fouling.
|6 days 5 hours ago||Irvin is not plug and play for Stauskas...||
Irvin subbed for GRIII last year and really didn't even play the wing spot until late in the year.
That is a HUGE diss to Stauskas because Stauskas was maybe the best passer on the team. He facilitated much of our offense.
Irvin is WAY more plug and play for GRIII than Stauskas who created his own stuff. Irvin just chucked the ball at the rim (and made a lot) for 90% of last season. I can count on one hand how many times he touched the ball twice in one possession and didn't shoot.
|6 days 6 hours ago||He's trying to say...||
Those are all the reasons why we sucked...and once the end or get better, we won't suck anymore.
|6 days 6 hours ago||I thought the same thing...||
I thought the same thing this morning when I saw the article...I was like "oh shit!" I think he's your next head coach at Virginia Tech when Beamer retires...that would've been a career blow.
Then I saw that it was some kid that I recognized, but really didn't know anyway and I found something else to procrastinate and waste the day away with.
|6 days 6 hours ago||Going from an F to a D still isn't good enough.||
Remember, "THIS IS MICHIGAN." We're build on toughness, and we grow OL on trees, and we're OL University, and blah, blah, blah...
|6 days 6 hours ago||So wait...||
Because a coach had to learn how to do his job, players haven't learned the system, and everyone is hurt...I'm supposed to think we're going to be good?
"Hey, hey, ay-e-ay!"
|6 days 6 hours ago||Can someone tell me again why they say "North Texas"||
If you say "Dallas/Fort Worth" doesn't that include Arlington which is between then?
|6 days 7 hours ago||Also question...||
Can a bowl that hosted a Semifinal, bid---and win, the National Championship game too?
Also, interesting to note that when the Rose Bowl are NOT "hosting" they're both still New Year's Day games. So the more important playoff games would be New Year's Eve (the night before). Meanwhile the Fiesta and Orange Bowls have pretty much become NYE bowls.
|6 days 7 hours ago||Wait||
It's really called the Atlanta Bowl?
Why didn't they just go back to Peach Bowl if they didn't want a sponsor name to be part of it?
|6 days 7 hours ago||By the way...||
Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of illmatic.

|6 days 7 hours ago||I love how everytime someone talks about music...||
Randoms come out with their opinion.
This was a JOKE and all of the songs fit the ridiculous picture. It makes it even more funny because all of those songs are old and I could totally picture Mattison or any other old guy playing those songs thinking he's "up with the latest."
I don't think anyone was trying to make a "best of" playlist...
The only thing I'm shocked is that there aren't already 3-4 Wu-Tang or Tribe references in this thread. Blog lovers two "I know real hip hip more than you" favorite groups.
|6 days 8 hours ago||I disagree||
Not in this offense...I think he's in the GRIII, Irvin mold (both of whom played 4) and I don't think he has the shot of either.
IMO he's a 3/4 in Beilein's offense and a 2/3 in most every other offense.
If GRIII came back I think he would've been almost exclusively a 3 (although he still would play SOME 4), but with him gone...Irvin's minutes go up and Chatman has to learn to play WITH Irvin some.
|6 days 8 hours ago||Sucked it up?||
You're a moron.
He was a VERY good player playing the 4. He may have been a better 3, I'll give you that. But "sucked it up."
Even if you're exaggerating that implies that he was bad. If that's the case, how is he now headed early to the NBA?
Some of you are ridiculous...he may not have reached his potential, he may have been frustrating at times...but sucked it up is overkill for even someone who going overkill.
|6 days 8 hours ago||Thank you sir.||
This is good stuff, really appreciate it!
