- I'm not going to predict it, but if that's the starting OL next year...they could actually be better than this year. It wouldn't shock me at all. But the depth behind them is "wooooo boy"
- That starting DL is also pretty damn good if Winovich really is as good as Mattison says he is. The depth on the DL is certainly better than the OL.
- We NEED Nico Collins and DPJ!
- LB completely hinges on "his" return...if "he" comes back...we could be okay because Bush will get experience this year.
- LOL @ DB...fuck. Fuck. FUCK. FUCK!!!!
|7 hours 29 min ago||I like you #2 scenario||
But personally, I think we'll have a true freshman starter somewhere next year if I'm being honest. But I can't project guys who aren't committed. Even if they were I still wouldn't have the stones to do it.

|9 hours 45 sec ago||Fucking Russillo & Kanell and||
Fucking Russillo & Kanell and Feinfuck keep saying that over and over and I'm like....COME ON...you guys get PAID to do this. At least take a look at a depth chart.
That's actually what sparked this thread. I was watching Russillo & Kanell and they said it and I lost it. So I wanted to see it for myself to see if my anger was warranted. It was.
They're so lazy...if you're going to have an opinion on it...at least do 2 minutes of research.
|9 hours 3 min ago||Nah||
1 and 2 aren't rankings...not for WR or for TE.
It's 2 different positions. I just don't know what to call them.
For TE it's kind of the "catchy" guys as TE1 and the "blocky" guys as TE2.
WR1 used to be the big tall possession guy (Darboh), and WR2 was the speed outside WR (Chesson)...but that made people mad so I moved Chesson to WR1 and flipped them.
In the end, it means absolutely nothing other than one position vs. another position but both could be on the field at the same time.
I suppose I could use X and Y or Split End, Flanker or something else...but yea.

|9 hours 14 min ago||I haven't designated any of||
I haven't designated any of the LB spots.
I took them off awhile back because it's too difficult to know until we see this thing on the field.
You've got players listed as LBs who seem like WDEs and vice versa...you've got guys who seem to fit the strongside, playing the weakside and vice versa.
It's all a mess at the moment.
I'll try and "fix" it after a few games where we see these guys on the field and know where they line up and what their responsibilities are. Until then...I just put 3 LB spots.
EDIT: I also eliminated WCB/SCB awhile back along with FS and SS. Also too confusing until we get some film.
|9 hours 19 min ago||Changed Marshall... Have Ways||
Have Ways as an OR...WR and LB are pretty much impossible until we see these guys on the field multiple times.
|9 hours 21 min ago||Take a closer look at the TEs||
They'd ALL be back the next year as well.
(Not likely due to normal "stuff," but eligibility wise...they could ALL return).
|9 hours 25 min ago||Eh||
Dawson absolutely has proven he can start next year if you go off of what the coaches are saying. Which you can't...but that's kind of the point of this entire exercise. I know he hasn't played much, but my god, if we're really going to act like that's the only indicator - we're doomed even this year if Speight is the starter. But no, we're relying on the fact that he's in a battle for the starting spot and the coaches speak extremely highly of him...so we give him the benefit of the doubt and assume the kid can play.
Dawson has locked up the first guard spot off the bench, I don't necessarily knock him for being behind Kalis. Even if they were even...you go with Kalis because he has chemistry with the other guys he's started with. He's got the experience even if he and Dawson are the same talent wise.
I happen to believe that he's right there, there's not too much drop off...but I also believe chemistry and experience are valued on the OL maybe more than anywhere else on the team. So I too would start Kalis.
So with that being said...with another offseason to progres...yes, he could be better.
JBB I don't think will be better than Mags even next year BUT...I said the entire line, you chose to pick out two players.
I happen to think Newsome next year with a year under his belt will be significantly better than he will this year. I think Cole will be a better C next year if he returns.
You have to take the improvement of the returning players into account along with who's being replaced.
I didn't say it would happen...I just said I wouldn't be shocked. Bredeson and JBB have both gotten solid reviews this camp. Both, I think, are going to improve over the next year.
How do you get there?
...I don't see that scenario as impossible and I'm not saying that's currently how the OL is rated. I'm saying it's not as far fetched as you make it sound. You're talking about a sophomore taking a leap forward after his first year starting and a senior in his 2nd year at a position taking a leap after a full year of starting.
And again...the REAL issue is what's behind that group next year. Better hope we get Wilson, Slaton and Ruiz.
|12 hours 30 min ago||David Dawson||
David Dawson is also a crucial guy we need back as a 5th year senior.
|12 hours 31 min ago||I'll second this...I like||
I'll second this...I like that suggestion. The kid is deadly in space on his fim.
|12 hours 33 min ago||I forgot to take AJ Harris off (committed to Ole Miss)||
...like I said, it's from June...but other than that, I concur.
And I just mentally plugged all of the uncommitted guys on the list above into the depth chart in the OP and you know it's youth, but you feel A LOT better about the roster. Of those uncommitted guys I'm guessing only 3-4 would redshirt.
But you add depth to the 3 WR spots...each gets a 3rd player. The OL fills in and isn't relying on walk-ons. You add Tufele and Bolds on the interior of the DL, another LB, another CB, another freshman S.
All of those guys are likely to play early in backup roles if they end up at Michigan.
|12 hours 42 min ago||Not sure how anyone could||
Not sure how anyone could disagree...but all I have to go off of is what it's looking like it'll be this year, plus natural progression, and press conference hype. Put that all together and it's still not much.
And if we get guys like DPJ and Nico Collins, I personally think they shoot straight to the top of the depth chart. There are still 4-5 guys that aren't committed I think can shake things up pretty good.
I got back and look at this Best Guess List from June and I see a few names that could make an instant impact if they jumped in the fold...those 13(14) names that are uncommitted are all blue chip prospects:

If you're a recruit going into your HS senior year and you want a real shot at playing early? SIGN ON THE EFFING DOTTED LINE!
We don't have a ton of starting spots open...but there are a SHIT TON of backup spots that are up for grabs. Doesn't matter what position in this incoming class, these kids have a real shot at early PT.

Can't he just be our OC for the next 20 years under Harbaugh?
Then he can be our HC for 5 years until he retires, Jay can be the OC for 5 years and then Jay's the HC for 20 years when Drevno retires.
Boom, problem solved.
|1 day 9 hours ago||A little later in camp...at||
A little later in camp...at some point you have to at least go from 3 to 2...I think they just wanted to give Shane an honest shot and acknowledge the improvement his made.
To be honest, I was wrong...I thought he'd graduate in the summer and be gone by fall camp ala Jake Rudock and Vernon Adams. Try to win a starting job in someone else's fall camp. We kind of knew he was #3 here.
He can still graduate and play his RS senior somewhere else if he wanted to...but hats of to him for never complaining about it or causing a scene. He has to be disappointed, but from everything I can tell he's grown up like most college students grow in college and he's always been 100% committed to the program. I'll never knock a kid like that. I hope he gets his degree at M and is successful for another year on the team or if he chooses to move on, I hope he effing kills it elsewhere.
|1 day 9 hours ago||It's a stretch||
But I think Khalid Hill may be the starter at FB if you made me guess based on this presser...
Also, we named every WR except Grant Perry. That said Harbaugh called him a starter at the slot not too long ago. Hurray for the freshman being good and not that recent batch we had a few years ago...none of which panned out to even backup PT except Mo Ways.
|1 day 9 hours ago||Why is he it? Newsome was||
Why is he it? Newsome was solid last year.
Are you one of those folks super down on him because of the spring practice at Ford Field?
|1 day 9 hours ago||Just make him a slot then||
Because you're not going to ask him to block someone when you have other options.
This is why I don't see why people won't believe in the hybrid type position.
He can play WITH DE'VEON.
He would be on the field in place of a FB...not the RB.
You line him up with Smith and then you see have the run/pass threat. Because Evans can run and Smith can block or misdirection OR Evans and get out in space and Smith can pass block.
When OSU had Jalin Marshall or Braxton Miller on the field....did they take out Zeke Elliott? No. That is Evans' position. He can play WITH the RB and he'll be used to get out in space and make things happen. Very similar to how we used Peppers on offense last year.
|1 day 9 hours ago||This makes me want to smack the person arguing with me last week||
This makes me want to smack the person arguing with me last week about Bredeson playing LT.
Just because one player mentioned JBB, he swore up and down Bredeson should be listed as a guard.
Sure that may be his natural position, but if he's going to play...clearly it's LT and Drevno all but confirms this in this presser. He's pushing Newsome for a starting spot fergodsakes.
