We have DBs going down...not sure why we love that dime so much.
IMO, there is ZERO reason to play Mettelus over Mone, Hurst, Godin, or Gary.
For every game for the rest of the B1G season it's going to be about stopping the run. Especially the two rivalry games.
Get that extra big body back in there and shut shit down.
|1 day 14 hours ago||He's not killing it.||
He had an AWESOME game versus Illinois. His best of the year.
But he's not killing it, however, if he has a progression anything close to Rudock he's going to be freaky good down in Columbus when compared to his play earlier in the year.
Sure there are some disclaimers in that he's got a better OL and run game and hasn't done anything like @Utah on the road.
But his progression post improvement week was so encouraging that I'm all in on Speight. He went from a a guy that I just crossed my fingers and hoped he wouldn't mess things up (which he never did) to a guy who was dropping dimes all over the field, pinpoint, on time passes. I'm all in.
I feel like we should start O'Korn versus Maryland just so Speight can do more self scouting. If this is the improvement bump he gets? It'd be more than worth it if he keeps doing what he's doing (I'm kidding).
He's not killing it, but he's getting there.

|2 days 9 hours ago||Texas||
USC's athletics admin is a shit show...I want no part of that.
LSU has to go up against Saban every damn year.
If I can win a Texas, I'm a college football god. And Austin is the coolest city of any of those options.
|2 days 9 hours ago||Couldn't agree more||
Leach's personality aside, I love that you have these unique teams around the country.
Wazzou is a DANGEROUS pass happy team in the middle of nowhere, but they're getting it done. You have teams that run the triple option, air raid, etc.
I hate that in the NFL so many teams feel the need to be "pro style"...what does that even mean? College Football provides so many options. IMO, it's truly the perfect setup in sports.

A world without Mike Leach is a world I just don't want to be part of. It's that simple.
|2 days 14 hours ago||There are white coaches who||
There are white coaches who "recruit strictly all black dudes?"
...as for the rest of your post. I don't completely agree or disagree. In the sports you seem to be referring to (football and basketball, cause it sure as hell ain't golf or tennis), I don't think you can make a generalize about majority black teams without looking at who's playing the sport before they get to college.
So what's the breakdown of the starting pool? If it's majority black, then obviously you're going to get majority black college teams in football and basketball...right?
You also have to take into account who's excelling in your starting pool. Why? Because college football and basketball are competitive, so even if your starting pool is 50/50, but those who excel are majority black...well, once again, you're going to end up with majority black college football and basketball players.
So that covers the student athlete side.
As for the fans...I think one thing you have to take into consideration in addition to your comments is the economics for that particular team. Who has the money to pay to see the black football or basketball team? Tickets aren't cheap and many have been passed down from generation to generation.
So again, that's not the ANSWER...but I'm saying you have to take these things into consideration.
The coaching comment you made, I have nothing to add to that. The only thing I can think of is that when these sports were really "started"...you didn't have black coaches or quarterbacks. I'd be interested to know how many (white) D1 football coaches either played QB or are a son to a former coach.
The QB position is starting to change, but you still can't get little black kids wanting to grow up and be a footall or basketball coach like dad if there aren't very many black head coaches.
I don't think you're 100% off, I just think it was too much of a generalization and didn't take into account some very obvious factors. It sort of paints this picture of the gladiators of Rome and a bunch of white people cheering on a bunch of black men bashing their heads in and playing a sport for their entertainment...and that's obviously overkill.
|2 days 15 hours ago||Clearly trolling||
Don't feed him.
Should be banned for trying to ruin what I'd argue is the best thread we've had on this site in months.
I will say this though. People use "racist" and "racism" too much when they truly mean "bigot." One could also be both. Then you also have "prejudice."
I'm no English major, clearly. I'm terrible in that aspect, but I DO think if you're going to discuss sensitive these topics you need to know the difference because the person you're communicating with may know the difference.
I find that it helps to get over yet another communication hurdle when trying to talk about these things...and anytime you can easily move a hurdle in these instances, you have to do it, because there's just too much to work through (with these topics) to not take care of the easy stuff, IMO.

Don't forget about "The African Americans"
|2 days 15 hours ago||Beautifully stated.||
|2 days 15 hours ago||I see||
First off, let me say...I completely respect your opinion and the opinion of the poster above that you responded to.
I'm pleasantly shocked this thread is still here.
It drives me nuts that we can't have these conversations without someone ruining it for everyone else. I get that this is a blog about Michigan sports.
But think of it this way, everyone on this blog is different, right? But everyone on this blog has one thing in common that they absolutely LOVE, right? I say that because I think just knowing that you share a common love for something, anything, it allows you to have open dialogue with someone who's not 100% different from you are.
I still don't understand the "central issue" post, but I agree with this more recent response 100% - except for one part...
"when people complain about life being unfair, then jump to racism as the culprit, it greatly harms society imo."
I think this is a gross generalization. And it teeters too much on the "make em work for it, my ancestors did (x)" train of thought.
What if life IS unfair in certain situations because of racism? Doesn't racism harm society much more than people complaining about racism?!
So I think in a lot of situations...that statement can be true. But if a person can't get a job or a promotion because of racism...and then they complain about it. Let's not blame the person who can't move in/up, the blame goes to the boss/supervisor. (And note that I didn't say black person, because the same could go if it was a white person who couldn't move up because of his/her race).
I almost feel like that line you said implies that there isn't racism or that folks who face racism should just deal with it. I don't think that's what you meant - at least I hope not.
Racism is real. However it's not the answer/excuse for all problems of any race. At the same time, life can absolutely be unfair to those who face constant challenges from others who feel their own race is superior. I don't think that's complaining...if that situation is you, then you're just stating a fact. Which is different, IMO.

France is extremely complicated and how it relates to northern Africa.
My point was the US is not the only country that has race issues and if you don't care to learn about it abroad...check out the history of the soccer team since clearly you like sports if you're on MGoBlog.

I'm all over it. Thanks for the suggestions.
And not ignorant to racism, not at all. But segregated dances just hit home. That's literally teaching racism to young impressionable minds.
Anyway, I'll watch all 3 this week. Thanks.
|2 days 22 hours ago||Does that mean it doesn't||
Does that mean it doesn't exist because you don't see it?
Are you looking for it? Should you be looking for it?
I don't have the answer to any of these but I feel like they may be relevant.

Responded to wrong post.
|2 days 22 hours ago||That was the dumbest||
That was the dumbest comparison of the thread.
Do you realize there can be white, Asian, Hispanic BLM supporters?
A black person can't be a white executive.
So if I get a few drinks into a white BLM, supporter and say "political correctness," what hate am I about to witness?
That doesn't even make sense.
Black people aren't the only people who support BLM, just like black people aren't the only people who supported the civil rights movement.
Sorry but you can't assume anyone who supports BLM is one race or is bad.
You may want to clarify yourself.

I suggest every look up the racial history in France even by just looking at the racial history of the soccer team.

My stomach turned.
That's awful. Whew. I can't even imagine. I don't have the words.
|2 days 23 hours ago||Can you clarify a "central||
Can you clarify a "central issue?"
Are you basically saying that people shouldn't see color? Are you saying race in our country shouldn't be discussed? Neither?
Now that it is a central issue, are you suggesting we ignore it? I feel like this could easily be misinterpreted from something different than what you intended it to be.
It kind of caught me off guard.
|3 days 8 hours ago||Lewis has actually very||
Lewis has actually very quietly been locking things down since his return. Minus "The Pick."
But think back to last year...that was really his breakout game.
I think he takes it to the next level on Saturday with a Heisman-level impact on D. Similar to the battle he has last year. I think he may have an individual performance of the ages.
He HATES MSU, he's the one player in my mind that has been looking for this date more than anyone else on this planet. I feel like, even more than OSU...
I could be way off, but all off-season, everything always seems to point to this game for Jourdan. I'm excited to see him take over and get some national attention with some big plays.
....or they just won't throw his way like most teams and that will be that.

Very interested to watch the Neb/Wisky game.
It's probably the only B1G game all season that matters and I truly don't care who the winner is. I just want to see them in what kind of amounts to an elimination game.

And my opinion is that insulting a group of people while trying to take a stance or give an opinion is dumb AF.
It has nothing to do with taking a beating...
To be honest, I'm sure people may actually agree with your opinion if you weren't being a complete jackass.
But carry on.
