I can't believe people are mad about this and think it is dirty for being "deceptive."
Other common football things that are deceptive and designed to throw the defense off:
Fake field goals
Pretty much any trick play
They are all perfectly legal, and if the NFL thought they were too mean, they would eliminate them. New England did something unique that Baltimore wasn't ready for, and that is nobody's fault but Baltimore's. They could have called a timeout, or they could make sure the guys they pay millions to play defense every year can identify eligibility based on formation, especially when there is announcement that someone else is checking in as eligible, which immediately indicates somebody else must not be.

I have only taken the class once, and thus only have first-hand experience with the professor who taught the class, but the vibe I've gotten is that your experience will be greatly impacted by who's teaching it. (Same holds for EECS 281 if you decided to take it some day)
I checked the class listing, and there appear to be 4 secions taught by either Ringenberg, Fu, and DeOrio. I have absolutely no idea who the second two are, but Ringenberg was my professor for ENGIN 101 and also taught other sections of 280 when I had it. (He may have even co-taught it; don't honestly remember) Ringenberg is a good professor who was generally very helpful when you needed it and also does a nice job with his lecture content, but his voice is a little monotone, so if you tend to get bored in lectures, beware of that. Other than that though, I would recommend him without any hesitation if you can swing scheduling his section.
Projects, however, tend to be mostly the same except when they blow them up every one in a while, perhaps due to too much cheating. They are pretty managable though as long as you don't totally blow them off (especially the Sorry project, they give you enough time to not have to do it on Spring Break if you don't want to, but you better have done some of it before then if you want that to happen, as that is the most time consuming of the 5 or 6 there are, or at least where when I took it 4 years ago)
Too bad for you Noble isn't teaching it next semester. Noble is one of the very best, and I am extremely happy I was able to take the class with him.

I was okay with the decision to go for it, but I was a,azed at the play call. The clock stops for a change of posession anyway, so if you're going to go for it, you really ought to do a pass play with the option to scramle for it because it offers you a better chance of getting the first down and also burns more time for the play itself in the vent you are not successful.
Given that the call was a run right up the middle needing 4 yards in a system not really designed for conservative runs right up the middle, pretty much every other option that didn't involve going for it was better IMHO.

I'll get on that as soon as I get home from work.

I would send an e-mail, but my current e-mail account has for some reason gone totally foo bar, so I will try asking here.
Any chance you could reseed the 2013 ND game? I caught onto these torrent threads late and after going back and finding that one it seems the pool has dried up.
Appreciate your work!

Still doesn't change the enormous contributions he's made in every other part of his game, and if you've been watching any of him playing, you'd know too he could easily have a handful of goals by now with some of his chances.
He's the kind of guy who's having trouble potting his first goal, but as soon as he gets it, it could give him the confidence edge to start putting a lot of them in.

I doubt Kentucky makes it against any of the other 1 seeds, and doubt Tennessee makes it past Duke if they don't get trolled by Mercer.
|1 year 5 days ago||Good News if We Make It||
Yale was the last team in last year and won the national championship. If we had beaten ND in the CCHA Final, last year's champion wouldn't have even meade the tournament.
Losing to PSU definitely makes me not feel good about our chances, but then slamming Minnesota does again. We're wildely inconsistent this year, but the nice thing about the tournament is you don't need to be consistent, you just have to be on the upside at the right time. That's how we managed to win it all in 1996 and 1998 but NOT win in 1997.
|1 year 4 weeks ago||Don't Worry About It||
I go down there and attend something at the convention center around mid to late January every year and I've never had a problem.
Especially when you're there for an event at the convention center, most of the people around you aren't from around town anyway and probably aren't OSU crazies. Obviously there is always some risk, but I'd say its pretty low; no more likely to happen than if you drove around any other Big Ten town with Michigan stuff.
I think most of the stories that go around come from football games. When I go down there for The Game, I am extra careful, because all the crazies ARE in town at that point and you are going right into the eye of the storm. For that you would want to take every necessary precaution and avoid any unnecessary risk, but for a convention, you'll be fine.

When I read the OP, I thought to myself "that isn't really thread-worthy for someone who may not care much about the NFL".
Then I watched the video and saw that she got a map to go with it with a big dot over Green Bay. Wow.
|1 year 11 weeks ago||2008 Northwestern||
There was rain, sleet, snow, and hail at some point during the game, and all I had was a windbreaker because it was actually not too bad when I left.
Spent halftime in the bathroow huddled around a heater with everyone who didn't leave. There were maybe 20,000 left by the end of the game, and I stayed because the game was close, but of course the team didn't come back, given it was 2008, nor did they have the decency to let Northwestern pull away and let me leave.
Oh, and literally the first 4-5 buses at CC Little showed up out of service. There were literally about 100-150 people, maybe even more all desperately trying to huddle under the tiny shelter (this was before the fancy ones there are now) and the numbers kept going up because some idiot decided not to make sure all the buses heading to North Campus weren't taking a break at the same time.
The truely awful thing is, I initially forgot my ticket and had to go back for it. My roommate hadn't left because he decided he didn't want to deal with it. Should have taken that as a sign, but hey, at least I can say I'm loyal. (But seriously, they should have given everybody their money back who stayed for the whole thing as a sign of gratitude)

He coached a Japanese team that he had also played for and the Japanese national team at the 1980 Olympics.
EDIT: I guess that doesn't qualify as now, but I thought it was worth a mention anyway because Mel is awesome.
|1 year 29 weeks ago||Yost and Notre Dame||
It has generally been to my understanding that Yost wasn't as bad with religion as he was with race. The story I've heard is that he hated Notre Dame because their AD stuck his nose into some thing over rereunning a race at a track meet and he got so mad about it he swore to make sure they never got into the Big Ten when he was previously all for it and it was probably going to happen soon thereafter. Everything he said after that was pretty much gaming public opinion at the time to stick it to ND, but he was totally cool with Catholics or Jews on the team.
He definitely wasn't a fan of African Americans though, and that has been well documented.
|1 year 41 weeks ago||Ohio Stadium||
And that's not being a homer. I've been there twice and both times was shocked at what a dump it is.
I expected it to live up to its reputation in stadium rankings and what I got was a cynder block. The whole thing is solid concrete, and what few parts aren't concrete are painted grey to match the concrete. Even the routunda was riddled with cracks and off-color patches to the concrete all around it, while the upper bowl looks like it has gotten zero maintenence since it was first put in. Its cracked, chipping, and ugly.
By far the worst stadium I've ever seen. This is out of Michigan Stadium, Spartan Stadium, Ross-Ade, Bryant-Denny (not for a game), and Bronco Stadium (also not for a game, loved the smurf turf though) for reference.
Haven't been to enough other venues of different sports or the NFL to make a call on any of those, although I will say I liked the Superdome when I went for the Sugar Bowl, and I thought Progressive Field was pretty nice when I went to the Frozen Diamond against Ohio, in terms of non-Michigan, non-Detroit venues I've been to.
|1 year 42 weeks ago||So if they joined for just||
So if they joined for just one sport, why are we so sure they're going to get into the CIC?
I mean, it would be great if we DID allow them in, but what's stopping us from doing that anyway? The CIC still has Chicago in it, and whether JHU joins the conference for lacrosse or not, they certainly aren't affiliated with another major conference in any way, so they could just let them in anyway. While it is practically speaking all the B1G schools, its not like they couldn't make an exception if they wanted to.
Also, if the conference is willing to take on an affiliate member for sports only a handful of schools are sponsoring...
WHY THE HELL DID IT TAKE SO LONG TO GET A HOCKEY CONFERENCE!?

Wow, what a schedule. Think I need to get season tickets this year instead of going individual.
Just hope the team is up to playing it, unlike last year.
|1 year 45 weeks ago||I was pretty confident I'd||
I was pretty confident I'd get in, although I was a little insecure about my ACT score and decided to take it again just to be safe. I got accepted two days before my new score was released. Talk about a waste of $50 and a Saturday.
Applied to MSU and MTU as backups but frankly never figured it'd be a problem anyway. I guess I thought of MSU as the backup, but in reality I likely would have gone to Tech in that case.
Also, thanks to the internet, I knew before I got the letter I had gotten in. IIRC, they milked that pretty hard though. They just e-mailed me saying they had decided, then made you go to the website, go to a page, and then click on "View Decision" to find out...
Also, totally jealous of your age. You were here at a rediculously good time on the athletics side of things. Hockey team coming off a national title coming in, and them and football getting one a piece while you were in school. HAVE PITY ON THE CLASS OF 2012, but have more on 2011 because that's actually probably worse (assuming 4 years)

|1 year 50 weeks ago||I think you can make the case||
I think you can make the case either way, but what I felt ultimately made that a block was the guy make ZERO effort to twist to get to either side of Morgan even though he clearly should have known Morgan was likely going to beat him to that spot.
If he shifted at all and hit Morgan more to the side, that's a block or a no-call I think, but the way he proceeded to knowngly crash right into the middle of his chest I think sealed his fate.

|2 years 1 day ago||This season was definitely a||
This season was definitely a failure for which the team deserves criticism for. True enough, the streak was never going to last forever, but we've had less talent than we did this year and won the conference; these guys just couldn't learn to play like a team until they dug themselves into a hole just a little too deep to get out of. Injuries didn't help, but they still should have been good enough to at least be more competitive than they were.
BUT, there is a difference between being critical of the team and being a fairweather whiner. Completely ceasing all hockey coverage falls into the latter. That isn't legitimate criticism, it's completely turning your back on the team because they aren't living up to their collective draft statuses, and I think it is unbecoming of the largest Michigan sports blog, and particularly one that regularly covers hockey. The fact Brian came out and said he wasn't covering hockey because he was mad at how they were doing is even sadder. I can understand being less motivated to keep up given the cisrumstances, but just admitting you're rage quitting and mad you bought season tickets is pathetic.
|2 years 15 weeks ago||True||
But there's getting a break or two to fall your way and then there's the crap ND and OSU have gotten away with this year.
Ohio I don't know got an excessive about of luck; only the MSU fumble really stands out to me. ND, however, has gotten every break and every call. They barely beat a terrible Purdue team, they only beat us by a TD even though we gave them 6 turnovers, they needed two gifts from the officials to beat Stanford and Pitt, and they managed to get USC one week after their starting quarterback went down with a shoulder injury. That is more than luck, that is backing into a title game, but I guess that's okay because you need a lot more than luck to beat Alabama.
|2 years 17 weeks ago||That would be excellent. Do||
That would be excellent. Do you have any more specific instruction to that site though? I'm looking at a map right now and I'm not seeing anything on sattelite that looks like what you're talking about near there. Searching for the location only yields two results that are on the other side of town.
EDIT: Think I found it.
Google Maps search gave me the state-wide HQ which is across town. A general search turned up that, which is right where you mentioned and a VERY good parking location for $10.
Very much appreciate the advice. Given your word on the people running it and the fact it is off to the side enough to be out of the way of passer-bys on the way to the stadium, that looks to be perfect and I will definitely go there. Thanks!
|2 years 18 weeks ago||Nope||
Should have taken the tickets. If going to the game means I have to wait until we win at the end to stand up and cheer, so be it, it is worth it to attend.
|2 years 18 weeks ago||Because||
Notre Dame fans are unbareable enough when they aren't winning national championships and trash talk like they do. If they actually DO get another one then it is going to be that much worse and I don't want to deal with that.
Also, this year in paticular, because I feel they are grossly overrated. Yes, I know, it is difficult to say that about a team that is undefeated, but they've had more than a championship team's worth of lucky breaks this year. It took a 2-minute drive to beat Purdue, a team we now know to be exceptionally bad. We dominated their offense and lost because Denard had the worst game of his career, and we frankly moved the ball at will when we weren't turning it over. They beat Stanford on an absolutely bogus goal line call. They beat Pitt because they were not flagged for having two guys with the same number on the field.
They did, to their credit, beat Oklahoma. That game was not a fluke, they showed up ready to play and they beat them. That, however, is the only quality opponent they've beaten this year without help from the other team beating themselves or help from the officials. They are a good team, good enough for 9 or 10 wins, but they have gotten quite a few breaks to be able to call themselves undefeated and I doubt that is going to cut it if/when they play in the NCG.
To be clear, too, there are a lot of title teams that survive a game on a lucky break. I'm not saying that should preclude you from being deserving of a title, merely that ND has had more than one, and a couple of them have been poor officiating (although not as bad as Colorodo's 5th down; that one deserves an asterisk next to their title).
|2 years 21 weeks ago||K-State and Oregon||
I know ND gets a lot of brand-points to put them in over either of them, but ND has played almost every game very close and KSU and Oregon have been blowing out pretty much everyone,
It would be a travesty for ND to get in ahead of either of them the way they are playing right now. I'd say Oregon would get the nod by virtue of the extra game they will play against a theortically quality opponent in the PAC-12 title game. If they should fall though, I still have to believe K-State's resume is good enough to overcome the bias if they win out.
|2 years 24 weeks ago||Whether mythical is the||
Whether mythical is the proper term or not, I don't think much of anybody can dispute our claims as national champions those years considering how badly we usually beat everybody we played.
What's even more mind-blowing is that I seem to remember reading in Bacon's class that Yost liked to punt on 3rd down in case anything went wrong on the attempt. We put up 100+ on people working with two downs...
