Shane should've redshirted this year.  Not doing so was yet another mistake by this staff in their roster management of QBs.

Well how much damage can the hardest hit ball from professionals do?  I don't know the answer, but the fastest ever recorded shot was 114 mph in 1996.  From the time the second ball leaves the cannon to the back of the net is just under .2 seconds in this video. Assuming they are practicing PKs in this video and are 36 ft. out (hard to tell, they may be a little closer), this ball is traveling about 135 mph.  If that hit you square in the face, I have to believe it would break several bones and cause a bad concussion at a minimum. 

For comparison, this "shot" has about 5 times the momentum of a major league fastball, though obviously with more cushion and spread out over the face.
