So does this say anything about Peppers and Nickle? I mean, if Gant has the body type for this, then Peppers can compete for a lot of playing time, I would think. What's the difference between a 6-2, 220lb SAM and a 6-1, 210lb Nickle, after all.

No, that's the University of Chicago, which is why I choose UM over Nobel Prize U back in the day. Perfect mix of ability to nerd out to the max while still enjoying a social life and membership in the largest alumni base in the world.

Saying that volleyball and tennis players should get a slice of the Revenue the football players generate is the definition of capital reallocation from the producers of it to the consumers of it. Doing so in the name of the common good is pretty much socialism.
|6 weeks 1 day ago||Sherman Anti-trust act has been established law for some time.||
Any professional organization that engages in price fixing in the US is illegal. That is precisely why colleges fight the "employee" label. If schools are not in the business of sports, the NCAA is not a cartel. Otherwise it is, and it is, in fact illegal in the US.

"As far as the idea that somehow, players in 'revenue-generating sports" (which is pretty much all of them at Michigan, i believe) are somehow more entitled to payment than those whose sports don't charge for admission, feel free to make that point, if you can."
|6 weeks 1 day ago||The NCAA has punitive ability||
The NCAA has punitive ability regarding how colleges pay employees. If it were not a union, it could not inflict the "death penalty" on schools like SMU that do pay players. And yes, the idea of having a judge rule it an illegal would also necessitate that the justice department prosecute attempts to simply reform it under a different name.

The irony here is that the NCAA is a union of colleges that uses collective bargaining tactics to extract higher rents from media and apparel providers, and to keep costs down by enforcing price controls in labor markets. We would not be discussing a player union if there were no employer union. Make the NCAA illegal under anti-trust law and players will get paid fair market value in a city minute because colleges will no longer be able to collude to enforce collective bargaining power.

No, I'm arguing that the colleges in collusion with the NFL and NBA have created a monopoly on minor league football and basketball, in fairly clear violation of anti-trust laws that they routinely get a pass on because they are part of the great national past times, and that many arguments I hear involve why it will be bad for everyone except the revenue generating players if they get paid because then either people who play water polo won't get scholarships, or fans who like watching cheap labor concuss themselves for our amusement will have to pay more.

How about capitalism over socialism? Seems like a valid reason to me.

Let's nips a lot of argument in the bud. If you're against argument has the form: "but if the NCAA stops exploiting its monopoly on NFL farm system and actually pays it's employees a fair wage, side benefit X of that exploitation will have to stop." It doesn't matter what pet you like will die if it can no longer suck off the teet of the players who generate revenue and don't get paid for it. If you want to go to a university with a women's volleyball team, volunteer to pay a couple hundred a year for a non-revenue student athlete support fee.

Lead-off on Sports Center is the MSU-UM game, and right off they point out the obvious that BOTH teams are missing key players due to injury. The thing I've always respected about Izzo is his ability to get a lot of production out of his bench. Last night, our subs were better. Lets face it, the NC game last year came down to Louivelle's 6th man being better than our 6th. That's how it goes.
|8 weeks 6 days ago||Ack!||
I hope the rest of the year isn't so all consuming for these guys. That schedule sounds worse than I-Banker hours. With Saban as a boss, I can easily see how that might be expected, and if so, I can see how a guy with kids would be happy to leave Alabama for Michigan and trade Saban for Hoke, and maybe a little more time with family as he progresses in his career. The extra money and chance to turn another offense around (an offense with a tail wind of having a good deal of that offense's issues being due to youth, which will disappear over the next two years) is just icing.
|9 weeks 1 day ago||The speed with which this was||
The speed with which this was posted suggests to me you've had a write up of replacement OCs waiting in the wings for some time.
|9 weeks 1 day ago||Exactly||
Remember when we all said the line this year couldn't be worse than last, and it was? It can always get worse, and I hope Hoke and DB have high confidence in the available candidates and their ability to get someone better, and we didn't throw our offense out of the airplane without a parachute.
|10 weeks 1 day ago||By that logic...||
Any team with a redshirt freshman QB who doesn't compete for a Heisman has an incompetent OC and QB coach, cause TAMU and FSU both had great success behind their freshman QBs.
|10 weeks 1 day ago||This actually makes me feel a little better about Borges.||
I mean, we had the worst line in D1 football. Worse than UConn, and we still finished 7-6. I'd really like to see a TFL rank adjusted Win-Loss record. Something tells me, Michigan outperformed by a country mile given how bad the line was. If you go to straight Offensive FEI plotted against TFL rank, and I'm sure we are even more of an outlier. Maybe a winning record given then worst line in D1 is an accomplishment for an OC. Borges is not the position coach, so it's hard to hold him accountable for their woes. Just saying.

Nobody could eat Al Borges during halftime except Al Borges. He's like the snake that endlessly consumes itself.

Not really. Notre Dame's 20 years in the wilderness should be a lesson to people foolish enough to want to find another coach. Besides, who would we get that could deliver a NC? Meyer, Tressel, Chip Kelley, Saban, Chizick, Pete Carrol, Les Miles, Butch Davis. All cheaters. Seriously, there are very few coaches who can deliver while maintaining the type of Ethics I want in my Wolverines. One of them now coaches San Francisco.

My big takeaway is that I thought all the RBs looked serviceable, even Rawls. Toussaint looked like 2011 Toussaint, not PDFT. I'm not the only one, I'm also seeing a lot of comments to the effect of the best RB or second best RB today was (pick random RB). All of our backs didn't suddenly turn into LeVeon Bell, so I take this as a sign of a much improved OLine. CMU caveats, but this and the speed to the ball and depth at multiple positions are things that get me very excited about our prospects this year. ND will be a test, but I think we win and are undefeated when Nebraska come to town.

I bought a Callaway Diablo Octaine driver, 3 and 5 wood. I also bought a set of Titleist MB 695 irons. I strike my irons pretty well, though I'd usually opt for my 5 wood to my 3 iron. I used to have a set of cavity back irons, and am so happy I switched. You get no feedback with a cavity back, so there's no way to improve, but I get a ton of controll with my muscle backed irons. Love them.
