It's hard to tell. Sam's "gut

It's hard to tell. Sam's "gut feeling" was, historically, his way of saying "I know this as fact." In other words, "I have a gut feeling Player X will commit to Michigan" was his way of saying he knew Player X would commit to Michigan without completely ruining the kid's moment.

But this year he's been referring to his gut feeling in regards to other people's opinions. In his case, is he saying that he knows we lead? Or that, for example, Tyrone Wheatley thinks we lead.

If the former, why couch it as being someone else's opinion? If the later, why not just state it as something you've been told (rather than a GUT FEELING (TM))?

I'm clearly overthinking this. #cruitin

One of my concerns about the

One of my concerns about the offense is the loss of Jake Rudock's scrambling ability. He seemed to pull the offense out of stagnation a few times last year by scrambling for a big first down.

Does anyone have a feel for whether Speight has similar "effective" mobility? He looked pretty good on the 2pt conversion against Minnesota.

Related to this - but not especially relevant - whatever happened to the prospect of Taysom Hill transferring in? To be honest, I'd feel a lot better about an admittedly good situation if he was on our roster.

Can we get the Yips or Tubes

Can we get the Yips or Tubes down to Game Day? Any sightings? I think that would be cool. Someone put out the bat signal. I'm busy.

It feels a bit strange to say

It feels a bit strange to say this, but I honestly think Rutgers' offense may be better than ours at QB and WR. We don't appear to have a playmaker on the outside as skilled as Caroo, and I thought their QB had a pretty good day finding him.

As much as MSU's defense seems like it is beatable, I don't think we have the players capable of really taking advantage.

I know it's still early in

I know it's still early in Nicholson's career, but is it possible some of the flak Brian has been giving Hoke for passing is unwarranted?

Relatedly, is it really possible that MSU's good second level defense was all a result of Narduzzi? How long has he been with Dantonio?

False. Statistics show we

False. Statistics show we have a 50% chance of beating at least one of OSU and MSU. It's just math.

Nothing you say is wrong, but

Nothing you say is wrong, but watching the game it did seem like this may be the worst version of MSU's defense in some time. You can put it on a loss of focus, or maybe WMU is pretty good, but their defense looks like a far cry from the 2013 unit. After one game, I don't think it's as good as the 2014 unit.

I do find the criticism of their offense funny, though. That unit rolled.

Great post, Seth! Really well

Great post, Seth! Really well written and thought out, and I think you make excellent points.

Holy crap! This is funny. I'm

I'm not alone in wanting to make an effort to make sure my coworkers and employees are comfortable. I don't think that makes me a little bitch, or is in any way dependent on me being good at my job. Note: I'm not worried about getting fire or in any way actually punished. I'm trying to be respectful to others. Maybe if you stop being such an ass you'll eventually find yourself in a similar position, where blowing of some time at work is no ones concern but your own.

Man, it's gotta be hard being

Man, it's gotta be hard being so perfect. Never effing off at work, probably always eating right, giving to charity and just rocking out and living the perfect life, all the while being stuck here with the likes of us. A bunch of jerks that read Mgoblog AT WORK! Of all places!

I'll ask you to reserve your judgment and shut up next time you want to get high and mighty. Most professional jobs allow you to take some time during the day to "eff off."

For the record, I'm more concerned with the bikini pic avatars making my secretary uncomfortable than of getting caught by my boss.

Would Roman also coach a

Would Roman also coach a position? If so, which? Or is he just a coordinator?

If he drops the mic and walks

If he drops the mic and walks away, he wouldn't be able to insult several millions of michigan fans when a few question him. #theshield

If he would have turned us

If he would have turned us down early in the process, then there would be no hard feelings. At this point, if he turns us down it is hard to see his actions as anything other than playing Michigan. I think he'd be a villain.

Counterpoint: I'm willing to

Counterpoint: I'm willing to bet there would have been no drop off between our second and third string QBs either. Frankly, there really wasn't that much of a drop-off from our 1st string to our 2nd string QB.

Also, Urban's offense under

Also, Urban's offense under Addazio was pretty crappy. Urban's unquestionably a good coach, but history does suggest he relies on his coordinators.

Is it possible that football

Is it possible that football passed the curse back to basketball? If so, the positive is that we can look forward to a good football season.

So, I'm torn ...On the one

So, I'm torn ...

On the one hand, I feel like I should attack the messenger of all negative Harbaugh news.

On the other hand, I love all things Charles Woodson and cannot brig myself to attack him.

I'm honestly not tying to

I'm honestly not tying to challenge you, so please don't take this as that.

However, I have to suspect the former AD you spoke with is Bill Martin, and based on your conversation it seems like he is more plugged into this coaching search than the one in 2007 when he was ON A FUCKING SAILBOAT at the critical juncture with Les Miles. If memory serves, Mary Sue actually stepped in and was instrumental in bringing in Rich Rod.

Like I said, I'm not trying to challenge the veracity of your post, but I'm just frustrated that it seems like everyone seems to have their shit together EXCEPT when they are at UM. When Brady starts winning with a coherent spread offense at Oregon State, we'll know it's time to apologize to the gypsy.

I'm not trying to be a jerk,

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but can someone explain the "in before delete" posts?

Miles. Mora Jr. BRADY HOKE.

Miles. Mora Jr. BRADY HOKE. All superior to Schiano and Addazio.

Vegas doesn't try to "know"

Vegas doesn't try to "know" anything. Lines/odds are adjusted based on the bets being made, so that they make money. If all of the action is on one side, even as the odds are quartered, it signals a problem to Vegas so they pull it off the board. Even for "chump-change" bets - if these weren't monitored as closely as any other bet, Vegas would get killed on them.

Vegas only reacts to the betting public.

In this case, if the betting public is betting one position so heavily that Vegas takes that bet of the board, it signals that something has happened or some info has leaked causing the heavy betting.

So, you think Vegas is being

So, you think Vegas is being all loosey-goosey with their odds? Like, "oh, hey! That's a lot of money coming in on that one bet. Let's quarter the odds and then take the bet off the board!"

Odds and game lines are actually set by some pretty smart people, and are also monitored by some pretty smart people. When a bet is getting too much action, Vegas tries to limit their exposure by lowering the chance of winning on that bet or the payout for winning on that bet (e.g., by decreasing the odds or improving/increasing the odds for an opposite bet, changing a game line, etc.), which also encourages bettors to bet differently.

This is usually a slow process that involves small nudges in one direction or the other. A drastic shift - and 8-1 to 2-1 to off-the-board is drastic, especially over the course of a day - shows that something has changed or there is some new info (for example, look at the OSU vs Wisc line after JT got hurt).

This isn't quite the same as a game line changing because there is no betting "against" Harbaugh to Michigan (a lot of against bets would push the odds back up into balance with what the bettors are taking). I'd be interested to know what happened to the line on other coaches or the field. If those all proportionally increased AND the money kept coming in on Harbaugh, then you can be almost certain that Harbaugh is coming and that either something changed last night and/or some info leaked.

This was actually the first

This was actually the first thing that came to mind when Ace first wrote about his health issues. I'd like to think some doctor has checked blood sugar by now, but in my experience that isn't always the case. Good luck, man.

Maybe if the odds moved over

Maybe if the odds moved over a few days or weeks. Overnight? There is no way that we, as an alumni/fan base, collectively came together and pushed the line this severely. This move is the result of a lot (LOT) of money that came in over a short time period, and kept coming in despite the odds crashing through the floor to the point that Vegas eventually took the bet off the board.

This may not be as rock solid as "insider info," ( sarcastic!) but this means something. Most likely something positive.

My sources are telling me

Ugh. Sean Payton, Bill

Ugh. Sean Payton, Bill Belichek, Jim Harbaugh ... Why don't they just make the obvious hire and ressurect Bo?

For everyone saying it's

For everyone saying it's either impossible or wouldn't save Hoke's job ... You should remember that most of the 90s was built on mediocre seasons that closed with a win over OSU. It's been a while, but I think people forget how good it feels to beat OSU. A win there and Hoke is almost certainly back, IMO.

Just curious ...How much is

How much is Weis now getting paid to not coach? The man really is a genius.

The guy is a good and versatile coach, when he isn't inexplicably sitting Melvin Gordon.

Gary AndersonI know he just

Gary Anderson

I know he just started with Wisconsin, but I remember thinking that he was a great hire. Previously, he had done a nice job turning around Utah State.

I don't think he's regarded as being an offensive innovator, so he isn't likely to be a board favorite, but his history indicates that he's a good coach.

I'm not sure if we could steal Wisconsin's coach - or what the B1G backlash would be (remember how salty Bielema got when Urban stole one of his recruits?!) - but I think this guy should be considered as a replacement for Brady (if the Harbaughs won't come).

This was such a strange year for football

Nothing - NOTHING! - seemed to work.  We couldn't run, our defense seemed to be OK, though not great, Devin was an interception machine for large portions of the year, the coaches were terrified of Devin  being an interception machine for (different) large portions of the year and therefore limited Devin, Devin got hurt and couldn't run as well after MSU ...

It goes on, and on, and on.  Yet, still, we were 11 points from 11 wins.  I ... just ... how????  Other than Gardner, Funchess, Gallon, and a reasonable defense, what kept this team from "Wolverine-quest"?

Great post!

This inspired me to call up some old friends to reminisce. The energy on campus before that game was unreal. Just an amazing time to be at michigan!

Hashtags are super hot right now.

So ...

If it makes money it must be good?

This mindset brought Maryland and Rutgers to the B1G, and is rapidly eroding something special (college football - michigan in particular) into a generic, mediocre product.

It's shortsighted at best.

Nice write-up!

One of your best, IMO.

Wow

You killed that strawman. Well done.

Stepping back from your premise, I think most liked having some kind of an innovative, aggressive offense. The defense was the problem.

You don't own a farm

Liar.

They're not just competent

They are actually imposing and controlling the line.

Something is broken with our OL.

UCLA's running offense ...

It makes me sad. Why can't we have nice things?
