Great work, as always, Brian. Go Blue!

Your contributions with

Your contributions with regard to softball are always invaluable, SBW, thank you.

Dr. Sap. He's gonna be a guest on the last segment. I let him know he's on camera, he's cool with it.

At the store, the podcasting area had about 15 people in it, and not one moved a muscle during the latter part of that segment. What an incredible storyteller.

I may have to totally

I may have to totally dissociate from the blog after hearing Brian slander mozzarella.

On the play where Higdon went

On the play where Higdon went down due to an "ankle tackle" he definitely just tripped over Braden's leg. Don't know if that's any better or worse, but it seems like as a RB it'd be harder to avoid or expect contact from your teammate

If you want to avoid Mike

If you want to avoid Mike Patrick and co, WCBN (student radio) is doing an audio broadcast of the game, which you can listen to at wcbnsports.org. I know self-promotion is a no-go on the blog, but I think it's worth giving us/them a shot.

if we're being totally

if we're being totally honest, I got really into softball about two years ago, so while I know who Ritter was, it's hard for me to compare her Romo, whom I've seen dominate the game consistently for the past two years.

The guy's got more

The guy's got more receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns than anyone else in Michigan history. He's also first or second in the single-game record books for all three categories. He might not be the sentimental favorite but he was more productive at Michigan than most of the guys below him on the list. Take into account some level of recency bias (athletes are objectively better now than they were 50 years ago) and football bias (one could make the case that Romero is ranked wayyy too low) and this ranking is pretty reasonable.

Lot of hard-hit balls. Only a matter of time until we break through.

This is such a tired and lame

This is such a tired and lame dig. Cool tech stuff, I guess, but I get sick of people talking crap about schools that are damn good in their own right.

Bring on the negs. It's easy to be a buzzkill at 1:40 on a Monday morning.

Seth's campaign against the

Seth's campaign against the "You Suck" chant is a lost cause. A hundred years from now, no one will remember "Temptation" ever existed, and after generations and generations of conditioning, 100,000+ strong fans will be united chanting "You Suck" after every defensive possession during Jim Harbaugh's 99th straight national championship defense campaign.

talent, maybe. But you're

talent, maybe. But you're delusional if you think that this team, with the rotation it has, is a playoff team.

I think we should be

I think we should be competent on the o-line and good on the d-line (so much depth!). My concern isn't that they'll be a weakness for us but that they'll be overwhelming strengths for the other two. Perhaps MSU won't "manhandle" us but both they and OSU will have clear advantages. But I think you're right about the skill positions being a more pressing concern.

yeah, i basically posted the

yeah, i basically posted the exact same thing you did at about the same time. +1.

I don't think we're going to

I don't think we're going to beat either, contrary to what OP states, despite playing both at home, and Harbaugh, because both teams have great QBs and coaches, and are in waaaaay more stable situations. Plus, they're set up to manhandle us in the trenches. With that being said, I'd take an MSU win over an OSU win because I've interacted with both Spartans fans and OSU fans plenty over the last few years, and the OSU fans have been infinitely more respectful and respectable. OSU's still a bigger rival, but the need to cram Sparty's newfound arrogance right back into their faces trumps that this year.

"Harbaugh practiced

"Harbaugh practiced alongside- and nearly as often- with more than 100 athletes..." feels like a grammatical nightmare. Other than that, I thought the article was well done.

Warriors in 4 or 5

The Warriors are more equipped to guard Lebron than any other team save for maybe the Spurs, with Klay, Iguodala, Draymond Green and Harrison Barnes all available to throw at him. Lebron's unstoppable when he's on; he and Kyrie will get theirs. But there's no one on CLE who can guard Steph Curry, and the disparity in depth between the two sides is laughable. I think we're looking at something like last year's finals, where it's basically just Lebron vs. a clearly superior side, and I think the results will be similar.

I'd join the hell out of a varsity pinochle team.

I have many people in my

I have many people in my family who went to Michigan, but no one really identified strongly as a Wolverine. So, having grown up in Michigan, it's kinda by chance that I adopted the maize and blue instead of green and white, as my mom and dad would've just as soon cheered for State. I guess I leaned Michigan from an early age, for whatever reason, but became more entrenched in my support as I met more Spartans fans... Guess I just had good taste as a kid.

Then I got in to UM, which locked me in for life.

Little league baseball

Won the league championship on a triple play. We were up 7-2 going into the inning, I was on the mound, nearly having a breakdown after the other team loaded the bases and scored once with 0 outs... then it ended on one pitch. Line drive to right, runners took off because our right fielder sucked, right fielder made a lucky catch, overthrew the first baseman, I backed it up, stepped on first, then threw out the runner who was finally tagging from 3rd at home plate.

I was probably one of maybe two kids on the diamond who knew what had happened in the immediate aftermath. Probably the highlight of my athletic career. I was about 12 years old.

If you wanna listen to

If you wanna listen to announcers who aren't full of BS you can always listen to WCBN's stream. The trade-off is that there's a delay, and we make too many puns.

I think it'd be interesting

I think it'd be interesting to know just how much of the dearth of rebounding at the 5 last year was due to lack of rebounding ability, and how much was due to Beilein schematically adapting to the lack of ability. Regardless, with Walton and Levert back (Walton especially), the DRB% at the 5 won't be as big of a problem.

I like that this piece adopted a more cautious tone about Ricky Doyle than the prevailing one among fans. It's still real difficult to project young guys like Donnal/Doyle, given the rapidly shifting team circumstances surrounding them this past year. Hopefully with health and stability they'll grow to be at least an average-level duo. Anything more is a bonus.

He was like a man possessed in the 4th quarter. Some ridiculous individual goals. He'll be fun to watch next year.

I'm a bit surprised the

I'm a bit surprised the Redskins haven't gotten more attention. Maybe not the worst on-field team of them all but when you combine their mediocre product with Dan Snyder's general awfulness and you get a really crappy org.

Softball's an obvious #4

and I bet our IM broomball teams are some of the best in the country, so... broomball?

No 2015 bball scholarships

so wait, does that mean no Jaylen Brown?

I still see McGary as having

I still see McGary as having the highest ceiling of the five rookies/sophs. With his motor, his passing skills, his talent, he'll be a starter one day for sure, barring injury. Especially if he develops a midrange game, which he began to do even at Michigan. Outside of him, it's hard to imagine anyone other than maybe Stauskas becoming a starting-caliber player, though I'm still optimistic Trey can become a steady 6th man-type player. GRIII won't last in the league barring a complete renaissance, for reasons we M fans already know. And Tim will have a role somewhere if he can rein in his gunner instinct and actually, you know, play defense.

Stauskas/THJ/GRIII have probably developed some bad habits playing in crappy environments (especially Tim), but it'll be years before anyone ought to make definitive conclusions about any of these guys. They're all still so young.

I shudder

I shudder to think about what extending the amount of home games would to to the thriving IM broomball scene at Michigan.

Hot taek

This team just doesn't make the extra pass offensively like the 2012 and 2013 squad (yet). Taking too many OK looks and not turning them into good and great looks.

Ugh. Doyle is not McGary.
