Agreed--I enjoy the TDF updates as well.
|6 days 19 hours ago||Exactly||
How many players (including Michigan players, to be fair) have even busted for "undisclosed violations of team rules" and gotten slaps on the wrist? I am not diminishing how annoying it must have been to run stairs at the stadium at 6 a.m. or bring Lloyd cottage cheese at the crack of dawn but that's a lot different from a 12 month ban...

Apparently, Indiana traded its uniforms for Kevin Wilson. #HALOL they forgot to also offer a wad of thrown gum for a defense...

I feel really bad for that hypothetical camel right now...
|1 week 5 days ago||Unlike most other cases...||
There is an ex-player witness with no axe to grind (at least that I have seen reported) that isn't batshit crazy (hi Maurice Clarett). Also, it is about academic fraud--night in the member school and NCAA wheelhouse--not something outside school that is at least theoretically harder to track, like paying players through bag men. This would be the boulder that breaks the camel's back for me if the NCAA doesn't come down very hard on UNC and Roy Williams.

|2 weeks 3 days ago||My personal feeling||
Generally speaking, producers of content who are doing so to make money will get their revenue stream one way or another. The question is what is tolerable as a revenue stream: is it being forced to watch commercials/fast forward through them? Is it web ads or popups on YouTube? Is it a subscription service like Netflix or movie channels? Is it a hybrid like basic cable? Something else that generates the $$$? Any attempt to cut off a revenue stream, even inadvertent (I'm sure Aereo's primary goal wasn't sticking it to the networks, though that's what their untracked viewers allegedly threatened to do) will be met with resistance or moving to another model. Personally, except for the 500th TV timeout during a football game or in the last 3 minutes of a basketball game, commercials don't bug me, but pop-ups, web ads, and (to a certain extent) subscription services.

What really matters is the Varsity boat--team awards are nice but results in the V8 are what really matters.

Women's rowing at Michigan is definitely a varsity program, complete with scholarships. Even in the best rowing programs, though, there are often one or two walk ons that end up making the varsity (rowing isn't super common in high school in much of the country)

And there is a difference between wanting to and actually making contact.
|6 weeks 5 days ago||I'm not sure I would read||
I'm not sure I would read that as allowing shirt betting at every spring race no matter the race's history but preserving that aspect would be one of a few aspects I would want to see preserved if men's rowing was under the NCAA. Keeping Eastern Sprints and other conference championships would be another.
|6 weeks 5 days ago||That and sportgraphics||
That and sportgraphics pictures from Sprints and the occasional row2k photos of cup races.
|6 weeks 5 days ago||The way the NCAA treats other sports||
I'm glad it isn't involved with IRAs or Eastern Sprints (which includes Wisconsin). Plus, I would guess that NCAA involvement could jeopardize shirt betting, which a fun aspect of men's rowing.
|6 weeks 5 days ago||Correct||
For cold weather schools, a top notch indoor facility with ergs, "tanks" (indoor facilities that simulate rowing in the water with oars that go into large tubs of water) and weights are very important to lose less ground against schools that get back on the water on February 1st.

I'm guessing he plays like Tebow in Denver or Vince Young in Tennessee--great first few games/season but struggles the following year with expectations and d-coordinators that scheme him better.

Yeah, I don't know many who would admit to academic red-shirting...
|9 weeks 2 days ago||Lewan would have been a great fit||
For the Jeff Fisher-led Titans, at least personality-wise. Those teams played very hard and rough--some argued to the point of being dirty--with lots of intensity. I know Lewan's reputation has trended downward in the last few months for a variety of reasons but his nasty disposition was a personality match for those teams.

Actually it was Jay Bilas posting under Coach K's account, with Dickie V hanging over his shoulder.
|9 weeks 4 days ago||To my untrained eye||
It just looked like the interior line was a blue screen, forcing Brady Hoke to hit ctl-alt-delete most games and begin the next game in safe mode.
|9 weeks 5 days ago||My guess is that the number||
My guess is that the number got a little lost in translation, and the $600 million represents the litigation/lobbying expenses plus a liability reserve. In other words, my guess is that the overwhelming majority of that money is going to a reserve that the NCAA is holding on its balance sheets (as it probably must) in case it loses its major litigation and has to pony up. That's probably mostly about O'Bannon, where the NCAA itself (not member institutions) will have to pay in the event of an adverse judgment.
