Concocting a ridiculous excuse for a positive drug test can't be that bad--I don't recall a prohibition on the decision wall...

Brandon should have just responded "go find another team to root for"...oh wait, we're talking about the NFL now?

I was actually pleasantly surprised with NBC Sports' morning show. It was 20 minutes on loop, mostly (if not exclusively) highlights, with minimal gimmicks and some ESPNish tag lines for home runs, touchdowns, etc. don't know if it is still on or the same, but it hit the right notes for me.

My cynical side says that UNC will, despite all logic, get a relatively light penalty from the NCAA. Then again, my snarky side is rooting for the NCAA to uncover that instead of going to class, the athletes were stretching...

That really couldn't have gone better from my perspective. Michigan won, it was a thrilling game, and very few will be calling for a reconsideration of coaching change.

Depends which school and which program. Some of those Ivy teams are built and coached to win (mostly in Olympic or preppy sports, for lack of a better term; also think Harvard bball under Amaker); others are geared to development and happiness of student athletes. By the latter, I mean being in the bottom half of the league on a regular basis may be grounds for firing, but over a much longer period of time than at, say, Michigan for football. Some of that, of course, is because the $$$ involved is so much lower; there is a conscious decision on other sports.

I don't know...I think it is a great way to honor great players of years past. Much better than retiring a number, in my opinion. On the other hand, for those who believe it only works if the player today is equally as good as the original "legend," I get why they wouldn't like the concept.

I sit at home on the couch, next to my wife. She starts asking if it is over yet toward the end of the first quarter but is generally a good sport about my Michigan fandom.

Wikipedia unreliability duly noted but apparently Clemson's head coach (again apples to oranges) promised several recruits the first carry in their first game: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamie_Harper

Apples and oranges and all that but wasn't there a brouhaha several years ago when Clemson followed through on a recruiting promise to a running back named Harper that the first play in the first game of his true freshman season would be a handoff to him?

|7 weeks 5 days ago||For the record, I 100%||
For the record, I 100% agree--there is no massive football program and all that comes with it without a rabid fan base that is willing to part with many many hard earned dollars to watch and support the program. I also know nothing about the opinions of any individual players on Michigan's football team, but it would be fair to say that sometimes athletes feel entitled to support that they probably should not take for granted.
|7 weeks 5 days ago||Exactly...I'm sure, for||
Exactly...I'm sure, for instance, football players are at worst indifferent to GA seating, dynamic pricing for games, issues with the Victors Club and ticket wait list, uniformz, and (hi Brian) Special K. I'm sure that if you asked players, students should show up in droves and on time, and season ticket holders should support the program. I don't want to make the players sound insensitive, but they have very little interaction with (non-Special K) fan experience issues.

|7 weeks 6 days ago||Are you sure? At most||
Are you sure? At most schools, the SAAC is chosen by coaches or individual teams. This is different from the group(s) Brandon put together about GA seating and other ticket issues.
|7 weeks 6 days ago||Agreed. I served on the SAAC||
Agreed. I served on the SAAC of a I-AA school many years ago. There, a few sports other than football were king (and queen, I suppose). The SAAC was built more to engage athletes with the AD and to resolve AD-wide issues (academic support, opportunities, etc.). The idea wasn't to vote on capital projects or budgets--ha, as if any AD wants student input into that--it was to engage athletes.
