When I went to the Crisler…

When I went to the Crisler Celebration, I saw the items I had ordered online at the M Den inside Crisler.  At that point I wish I hadn't ordered online since I could have just bought them right there.  Sigh.

My order also has not…

My order also has not shipped yet.  :(

It startled me and I was in…

It startled me and I was in the nosebleed seats!  Also ironically, a little boy sitting in the row in front of me actually got a nosebleed during the show!

Thanks!  I just got mine, as…

Thanks!  I just got mine, as well!

After a half hour of the…

After a half hour of the site crashing at 1pm yesterday, I did manage to get upper bowl tickets.  But I still haven't received the email with the tickets that you actually download yet.  Has anyone received the email with their actual tickets yet?

Have tried to buy tickets…

Have tried to buy tickets for the past 10 min and every time I try to check on seats or go with best available it crashes and I can't complete the transaction.  Bummer.

Same and I was thinking the…

Same and I was thinking the same thing.  I can't imagine the staff coming up with a brand new show in the middle of the season back when I was in the MMB, even though we did use software back then.  We would sometimes adjust things a bit for the bowl game show but never something completely from the scratch.  I was quite impressed yesterday!

I never knew about that tent…

I never knew about that tent.  Wish I would have tried it.  Back at that time they also had a Wiard's Orchard tent that I absolutely loved.  Would always get cider and a doughnut.  I really, really wish they were still there.

I have worked in video…

I have worked in video production for 25 years and I don't think I've ever done a project without the client looking at it and approving it.  I just can't imagine that no one at MSU would have looked at this video trivia segment before it went live.  I guess either way, it's crazy.  Either someone is letting stuff go on the big screen without review, or someone approved this trivia question/image.

The wet burrito was also my…

The wet burrito was also my go-to order.  Used to go to Tios all the time, although it was the one on Washtenaw.  Not even sure if that one is still there.

Omg, wow, I had forgotten…

Omg, wow, I had forgotten about those.  Used ytalk all the time.

Yep, and we wrote that …

Yep, and we wrote that "student ID number" on everything.  Blue book exams, papers we handed in, you name it.  We were still doing this in 1999.  Granted, like someone mentioned, there was an additional number at the end of it, but still, people would react with horror now if that was still the policy!  And yes, I just changed my UM password on my account from 1995.  I keep it for the nostalgia.

I was working at my first…

I was working at my first real post-college full time job in Ann Arbor.  I was on my way to work and heard over the radio that a small plane had flown into the trade center.  I thought it was a terrible thing but probably a small personal jet and an accident so I turned off the radio and finished driving into work.  My coworker did not arrive that morning but I went about my routine and she eventually called and asked me if I knew what was going on.  I said no and looked at the old school Yahoo front page at the time and saw that things were more serious.  Then she ended up coming in to work and we listened to the coverage live on the radio.  It was Peter Jennings and we heard the towers fall live.  Then we went to my coworkers house and watched the coverage.  I remember my dad calling me in disbelief.  Definitely a morning I will never forget.  I remember looking up at the crystal clear blue sky and being in fear.  I am still wary of planes flying overhead at Michigan Stadium.  It's going to be something that sticks with people forever.

Very, very loud.  I sit…

Very, very loud.  I sit right under the north scoreboard and you have to yell to hear the person next to you.

One thing I meant to mention…

One thing I meant to mention in the first week’s stadium experience thread was that it appears they’ve expanded the student section again.  I am in section 34 near the top and years ago they expanded the student section to halfway through 34, displacing many season ticket holders.   Then they shrunk the section again and those seats became public.  But this year, it seems they’ve made that half student section again and this means I’m yet again a breath away from having them displace my seats if they expand to all of 34 (I’ve had the seats for 23 years and love the location). Just wondering if anyone else noticed the slight expansion.

Yikes.  I did notice that…

Yikes.  I did notice that the lines for everything were crazy long at halftime since everyone had left the bowl to try and get out of the heat.  Also, before the game the concession stand I went to was having tech problems and couldn't use the portion of their registers that took payment from phones.  They're lucky they could at least take cards, what with the new no cash rule and all.

Oh yeah, they did try to…

Oh yeah, they did try to start the wave in the second quarter!  And the wrong way, on top of it.  I guess the old traditions regarding the wave have been lost to the new students.  Sadly the covid break year probably helped hasten that.

I had the opposite…

I had the opposite experience of most regarding the new sound system.  I sit under the scoreboard in section 34 and the new speakers were waaaaaay too loud.  Hubby and I had to yell to each other the whole game in order to hear each other.  There was also way too much piped in music and not enough MMB.  And once again, too much Duff Man on the field introducing cheers everyone knows how to do and no one needs an explanation for.  And although I realize these cheesy fan competitions are probably not going away, to have one before the MMB comes out onto the field for pregame just felt so wrong.  I do love the frisbee catching dog, though!

I also agree with many here that the new layout of stats on the larger screens is not nearly as intuitive and easy to read as the old one.  I used to always follow the stats on the board but honestly don't feel like I was able to pay much attention to them at all yesterday due to not knowing where to find what I wanted to see and them constantly changing what was being displayed.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yes, I went to Clague Middle…

Yes, I went to Clague Middle School in A2 with Ian Gold and I believe his (twin?) brother Jeremy.  Then I had a class at Michigan with Ian which I thought was kinda funny.  He was always surrounded by tons of people in that class, mostly girls.  I feel like at one point he was on crutches, too.

My mom knitted (or maybe it…

My mom knitted (or maybe it was crocheted) a block M cover for the box that held my dad's ashes.  It was beautiful.  We also attached a "Michigan Dad" pin to it.  If you know someone who knits/crochets it's a really beautiful option.

I think it absolutely played…

I think it absolutely played itself out.  And what's sad is that even when stories are done, the almighty dollar keeps the studios churning out seasons.  I think Ted Lasso is another great example of this.  The story was done after season 1.  Everything after felt tacked on and was quite frankly, bad.  I never even made it to season 3 on that one.

Its demise was too many…

Its demise was too many cooks in the kitchen.  They now have a large "story group" that contributes to writing the shows and it has ruined it.  I work in broadcast video production and believe me, the more people that have their hands in content control, the worse things get.  The people involved in writing Mandalorian are no longer concerned with the core of what made the show great in the first season, and it's a shame.

I loved the first season, but by the end of the second season I was underwhelmed.  I was super disappointed in Obi Wan and Boba Fett, and I actually don't even think I finished Boba Fett.  Will not finish Mando season 3.

Oh gosh, Bird of Paradise! …

Oh gosh, Bird of Paradise!  Yes, a major loss.  And Ryders made me think of another place I miss, Campus Bike and Toy.

Oh good!  Main St is…

Oh good!  Main St is actually the location I used to go to.  I need to get some lobster bisque!

Le Dog was awesome and…

Le Dog was awesome and Ulrich's has now permanently closed. :(

Same...born and raised in A2…

Same...born and raised in A2 and lived there til I was 30 (born downtown in the old St. Joe's).  Also graduated from Huron.  Now live about 30 min north but visit frequently because my mom still lives there.

I don't recognize campus anymore.  It just looks and feels so different to me from the 80s and 90s (was at UM 95-99).  The Diag is one of the few places that still feels the same.  Being a former MMB member, things have felt weird ever since they built the giant fancy tower and put down turf on Elbel Field, and now that they're moving the field completely and building a dorm...well, I'll lose even more connection to the MMB.

If I could bring back anything, I think original Blimpy Burger would be one, and Middle Earth.  And the Ann Arbor Theater.  Ack, I keep thinking of more and it just makes me sad.  At least we have photos and memories.

Huh.  Guess I'm the outlier…

Huh.  Guess I'm the outlier here but I got the worst food poisoning of my life at China Gate in 1996.  It's something I try not to think about but it was 24 of the worst hours of my life.

I really don't think he had…

I really don't think he had plastic surgery.  My understanding from what I have heard from other broadcasters is that he had Parkinson's and later on, dementia.  But the medications for the Parkinson's really appeared to affect his face and body towards the end of his on-camera career.

Sadly, he had Parkinson's…

Sadly, he had Parkinson's and dementia, from what I hear from fellow broadcasters in the area.

Not to mention there was a…

Not to mention there was a number you could press to DISENROLL!! Everyone was always terrified of accidentally pressing that.  I think it might have been 9.  The joke between me and my friends was how long our first attempt at CRISPing each semester would last before we hung up in frustration.

Well, from my time in the…

Well, from my time in the MMB in the 90’s, 2 out of 4 of our bowl sponsors went out of business fairly soon afterward: Builder’s Square (‘95 Alamo Bowl) and Comp USA (‘99 Citrus Bowl).

I bet a lot of kids won’t…

I bet a lot of kids won’t even go to Revelli and use their lockers before practice.  They’ll just dump all their stuff on the sideline.  Funny enough, as a flag we were never given lockers so had to leave everything on the side of the field anyway.  Which unfortunately ended up with some bad things happening like vandalizing of our stuff, which sucked.

Totally agree.  MMB member…

Totally agree.  MMB member from the 95-98 seasons here.  I think politically there’s no way the band can publicly say anything negative about this situation but in reality it’s not a good thing for all the reasons you state.

I remember having to run from Revelli to the field because we weren’t allowed to cut across and I can’t imagine having the added distance to the new location. It also makes me sad from a nostalgic standpoint for sure, but unfortunately once they put in the turf and added that ginormous director’s tower, it stopped resembling my old blacktop Elbel field.  I think it will be funny that most kids living in the dorm will have no idea that they’ll be woken up by the MMB’s early Saturday morning rehearsals…and the percussion rehearsing all the time.  In the words of Nelson Muntz, “Ha ha!”

Thank you for the heads up…

Thank you for the heads up on this.  I was in the MMB for the 1998 Rose Bowl and my family came to that game, as well, so I got a brick commemorating the event.  My dad passed away two years ago so that time in our lives means even more now and this brick was a great way to commemorate it.  Thanks again.

I've had my season tix in…

I've had my season tix in the end zone for 21 years now and love them.  If they ever moved the student section into the end zone and I lost my seats, that would be it for me.  They came very close one year when they expanded the section and I felt really bad for the folks who lost their seats across the aisle from me, only for the AD to once again shrink the student section and make those seats public again.

I had the same issue. …

I had the same issue.  Downloaded the app, enabled all the permissions, but it was stuck on "waiting to sync."

Two women got in a fight in…

Two women got in a fight in my row as one was trying to make her way back to her seat and made a snide comment to another lady regarding standing up to make room for her.  There was more to it but I won't go into more detail but it was bad and uncomfortable and I definitely felt the vibe of people being on edge more than usual.

Yes, I also noticed the…

Yes, I also noticed the stuttering on the highlights.  Almost like a bad frame rate conversion.

Mine didn't work in the…

Mine didn't work in the stadium even though I had all the permissions enabled.  Just sat there on "waiting to sync."  Pretty disappointing.

This.  I actually don't mind…

This.  I actually don't mind having a DJ on the field as he just plays music like before.  But THIS guy, the "MC" is beyond annoying and completely unnecessary.  No one needs Duff Man telling the crowd how to say Go Blue.

Yeah, we started doing…

Yeah, we started doing unified rank moves in parade block in '96 and incorporated the chant into that.  For anyone interested, the chants we did after practice and in parade block went like this: first was "It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine", then "Hoo, hoo, hoo, Go Blue", and finally "It's all about Blue, baby, yeah, boy."  I'm not sure if they still do that sequence of chants anymore!

Similar to Joby's comment…

Similar to Joby's comment below, I was also in the MMB for the '95-'98 seasons and we used this cheer at the end of practice and in parade block.  Like he mentioned, it seemed to catch on to the team during this time.  As far as I've known, this Michigan version of the chant originated in the MMB but that has always just been my guess.

This a million times.  I've…

This a million times.  I've had enough disgusting people puke around me in the stadium, this will make the problem so much worse.

Doug's constant scratchy…

Doug's constant scratchy voice annoyed me at first but I got used to it quickly.  Like others have mentioned, I just wish he had more enthusiasm when Michigan scored a TD.  It sounded like he was announcing a TD for the other team.  Jansen did very well and has a pleasant voice for radio.   Both were more informative and helpful for me to listen to than Brandy/Dierdorf and finally we are done with ever having to hear "sack time" again!!

And don't forget the Atari! …

And don't forget the Atari!  The Half Ass had an Atari in the mid-90s.  I also had one in my room, though, that I brought from home!  Lol!  Ataris all around in East Quad!  I would have Warlords competitions with my hall mates!

East Quad, 1st Hayden, 95-97…

East Quad, 1st Hayden, 95-97.  Since marching band went through dinner I had to eat a lot of meals at the Half-Ass.  My first year room didn't have a sink and that truly sucked.  Everyone else had a sink.  My second year room was formerly a triple so me and my roommate had ample space and three closets!  And since I had to move in early for band week, we were always able to "borrow" an additional dresser for storage each year.  Our hall played a game of Assassins in '95.  I doubt that game gets played much anymore given all the real school violence that has happened since.  I cringe looking back on it.

Oh, and middle of the night fire alarms that idiots pulled were a constant thing and definitely something I was glad to leave behind when getting out of the dorm!!

I bet you're referring to…

I bet you're referring to Matt Pickus, former MMB drum major, who comes to every homecoming and basically puts on a show at halftime for the student section.

I was also in the MMB during…

I was also in the MMB during that era (95-98 seasons) and I'm surprised and disappointed that they don't mention that we also had reversible shields in the 90s.  It was white on one side and maize on the other.  We used to wear the white for away games/bowl games but after the '96 Outback Bowl loss it was decided that the white shields were bad luck and we never used that side of them again.

Same.  Never had it and…

Same.  Never had it and never will.  There are many other avenues available to communicate.  I am connected with everyone who is meaningful in my life in other ways.  Shocking!

Worked at Pet Supplies Plus…

Worked at Pet Supplies Plus while in high school.  Have a lot of stories but one of the strangest and most unpleasant things I had to do was clean out the dead fish from the tanks every morning.  Sometimes overnight the fish would jump out of the tanks and die on the floor.  I would then come in and accidentally step on the dead fish.  Didn't enjoy that part at all.
