I agree. The penalty should I agree. The penalty should be proportional to the number of people who find the comment neggable.
yes!

This, completely. The coaches assessed their personnel and made a calculated gamble. They ended up losing the bet, but that doesn't mean it was a wrong decision to take the gamble. They saw deficiencies and did what they could to get the best players on the field (with requisite risk).

Totally agree. How would it help for him to acknowledge issues with play calling publicly? The only thing it would do is estrange his staff. That doesn't really seem productive. I'm good with the coach speak. What I'm not good with is the actual play calling.

Personally, I'm fine with the coach-speak in press conferences. I don't care what he says to the media re: offensive play calling. The issue is what is said with staff during the week and in the off-season.

I think this is generally

I think this is generally true. Teams probably aren't adding a ton of stuff this late in the season. But that's not exactly the point. The point is, your offensive scheme should have some base formations from which you can run different plays. That way when the D sees a formation, they still have to respect both the run and the pass. Constraint should be a fundamental part of the scheme, not just something new that you add in November.

agree

It's pretty difficult to judge the backs in the context of our O-line. Sure, Green hasn't been getting tons of yards. But who has? And like you said, blitz pick-up is often a learned skill that freshman need some time to perfect. Especially true with a shaky interior o-line getting blitzed over and over.

maybe hypocritical is more accurate than ironic

I think what he (McSomething) means is that the stadium experience is not getting fixed either... you know, here on a message board.

I was thinking the same thing

Hardaway and LeVert

Watching Hardaway in that video reminds me a lot of LeVert this year: has a nice stroke when we gets going, has some quickness on the dribble, and skinny as a rail. I'm really hoping LeVert develops into a more consistent weapon. He made a great argument for himself last night picking up Stauskas' extra minutes.

Hardaway's expression

What I wouldn't give to see Hardaway's face in the picture on the right at the top of the post. He's got to be going absolutely bonkers in his mind!

Trey!! Ahhhhh!
Yeah!

Yeah! Where's your machine now?!?

Nope. Rubble I suspect.

idiotic?

I'm not sure it was all of "idiotic." It was a calculated decision with known risks... that turned out to burn us last week. But who knows how some of the other games turn out if we don't have Gardner at WR. I'm not saying he was a world-beater, but he's contributed.

And you can't have your cake and eat it too. Gardner can either focus on being a good WR or a good QB, but I don't think he can do both. So I agreed with the call last week to put Bellomy in when Denard went out.

Lewan!

How about Lewan on the yakety-sax-to-Dileo-TOUCHDOWN!! play? He stays home and then lays a nice block on someone while Gardner is coming around. 1) Good discipline staying home. 2) Staying alert to what's going on with his QB. 3) Nice hit. At 1:30 in the highlights.

agree

Yeah, it seems like every other time we've seen him he's been serviceable but underwhelming (though athletic, sure). Today was a nice little change of pace.

Agree

I agree, all blanket statments are silly.

No really though. I do agree with what you said.

modified hoke presser “He was held back for three days because of a mild medication deal. Brian -- and he’ll tell you -- probably could have posted, but we’re trying to be, like we should, cautious with those kinds of things.”
Just to clarify, Trey has not Just to clarify, Trey has not entered the draft yet. He submitted a request to the NBA Advisory Committee to be evaluated (which isn't uncommon for quality players to do), but that does not enter him into the draft. Beilein confirms that in his quote when he said that the news of Trey entering the draft was premature. So as I understand it, there's nothing for Burke to do on Apr 10. He can't withdraw if his name is not on the list. His deadline is still Apr 29, his last opportunity to enter this year's draft if that's what he's going to do.
??

How would an agent benefit if Trey goes undrafted?

This is a fantastic draw! This is a fantastic draw! Right? Ohio and then Temple? I like it.
You're making an incorrect You're making an incorrect assumption: that there is a perfect correlation between being a good team and getting the win. The better team doesn't always win the game (usually, but not always). So we could have the same number of wins as another team and not be as good... or we could be better. The advanced metrics are trying to parse that out. edit: This is directed at EQ RC Blue.
I agree that if you're trying I agree that if you're trying to rank teams based on how they performed, then all you need to look at is the scoreboard. A W is a W is a W. But that's only useful when you're looking back and reporting wins and losses. If you want to try to PREDICT how a team WILL perform, then it certainly does matter what kind of a win it was. A close game won by a fluke shot (death to backboards!) means that if that situation happens again, the outcome may flip the other way. That's kind of the point of a lot of advanced metrics. They're using margin of victory and other numbers (besides just the scoreboard) to PREDICT how a team WILL perform. And I think that was Brian's point as well. He's trying to answer the question of what we should expect looking towards the tournaments.
Double post Wow! I hate the internetz today.
Agree I definitely agree that Beilein has been laying the building blocks for a successful program before Hoke arrived. This basketball season may have turned out similar with or without Hoke around (when did Burke commit? Was it after the "This is Michigan, fergodsakes!" press conference or before?). But I could definitely see Hoke and the football season having an effect on NEXT year's basketball team in the form of recruiting. I think that's the case anytime a team does well and gets some national/regional media love; all of the sports at that school benefit from the free advertising.
