I have a family member on the faculty at OSU who taught Pryor in a class during his last year. Not that this is shocking, but I was told he was Dumb (capital D). They could tell that he had little to academic skills whatsoever. It was a pretty low level course (i.e. intro to something or other 101) and he barely scarped by....and that was with a tutor who went to class with him to take all of his notes....

you lucky *astard. enjoy

you lucky *astard. enjoy every moment of it. my first game as a student was the 30-3 beatdown of Colorado in '97.....think we had a pretty good team that year.....

sounds similar except.....

I think the Michigan football job is stiil an "elite" job while I can't say the same about MD basketball.......

I live in the DC area and I've been listening to post-Williams talk since late last week and I'm not sure I understand why the fans/alumni think Maryland is such an "elite" position. Just b/c you play in a conference with Duke and North Carolina doesn't mean you are on the same level. I found it laughable that the local talking heads thought that Jay Wright, Jamie Dixon etc would leave their programs to take the MD job (despite any local tied they might have). Wright and Dixon run borderline powerhouse programs in arguably the best conference in college basketball. Why would they leave to play (at best) third fiddle to Duke and UNC in an ACC conference which isn't even as good as it used to be? Brey I can see, but no chance the other guys would take that job.

Maryland basektball = Iowa Football - nice program, had some success, but not a place coaches are just going to run to any time the job opens up.

Am I crazy? This has been bothering me since Gary called it quits last week.....

kelly baracka as well.....

that guy is going to be great......

I agree - Hoke will adapt

I'm sure he's seen sportscenter and knows what Denard is capable of. Not saying he is going to go 100% spread, but there are ways to work elements of the spread into any offense. Look at Stanford's offense this year....Andrew Luck was to be the consensus #1 player in the draft and ran a pro style offense at Stanford yet still had around 500 yards rushing this year.

Denard's talents can be utilized in any offense.

how is paterno even on that list?

can we stop pretending he's actually the coach of that team?? no way Hoke is a worse coach than Paterno at age 85. is he below Tom Bradley? maybe.

sadly, no matter how you slice it, Hoke is probably no better than 5th on that list today. i'm not saying BH can't grow into the role, but it's hard to make the argument that you wouldn't take the Vest, Bielema, Pelini, Fitzgerald or Ferentz (under-rated) over BH in today's world.

Hoke = safety school

much like Michigan State was to me.....

chris peterson does not have

chris peterson does not have a cell phone....

seriously,

1) no ties to the midwest

2) plays questionable competition

3) the last two BSU coaches who have gone on to bigger programs have been utter disasters.

nice coach, but i'd rather have Hoke.

I look at it from the opposite side.....

if Harbaugh REALLY wanted the 49er's gig, why hasn't he taken it yet?? He knows what their offer is....if that's the job he really wants, why hasn't he accepted yet??

I'll concede that he had to meet w/ Miami and maybe he still wants to see what Denver has to offer, but maybe now that he has seen what these NFL teams are willing to offer, the UM job doesn't look so bad in comparision. I know if I were looking at a team with a QB situation as murky as SF's (Alex Smith, Troy Smith...bleh), I'd have some reservations.

I think every day that goes by the JH does not sign w/ an NFL makes the odds of him ending up in AA greater. I'm not saying the odds are great right now, but each day he remains unsigned, the more likely he might end up in Ann Arbor.

JH....I can't quit you!!

no

JH....I can't quit you!!

no homo

I guess it just depends on

I guess it just depends on the organization....my company, for one, requires that we post all new job listings online. they have a couple of fairly important positions posted - i.e. Chief Compliance Officer - so I would have thought they might be required by law as a public institution to put all postings online. i was actually looking forward to reading the job description and the required/desired qualifications.....

I checked online this morning....

nothing posted yet on the UM job search site (i'm assuming i was looking in the right place - umjobs.org). i know we are a public university and all but I actually thought someone was joking when they said we had to post a job listing online.

i think the whole draw of the

i think the whole draw of the nfl is what is keeping JH away. whether he went 12-1, 10-3 people were going to go after this guy for their HC position in the offseason.

he probably just handed him

he probably just handed him the $2.5M check and walked him out.....

Thanks, Coach Rod. The results clearly aren't what anybody wanted, but you handled yourself with class for you entire stay in Ann Arbor. You are a good man and a good football coach. I look forward to supporting you wherever your career takes you next.

commence....

board freakout

i'm sure it's not at all

i'm sure it's not at all awkward.....

i'm sure it's not at all

i'm sure it's not at all awkward.....

it worked w/ lloyd carr. just

it worked w/ lloyd carr. just sayin'......

hell hath no fury.....

hell hath no fury.....

the bleeding has to stop.....

we've already lost one major recruit in this class with god knows who else to follow due to this circus.

if RR stays, this cloud will continue to follow the program deep into next year and will kill recruiting even more.

it's sad that hoke might actually be a better option now just for the appearance of stability....

Where's Bill Martin when you

Where's Bill Martin when you need him??

RR is a defeated man

you could see it in the press conference post game. that was just an "aww shucks, we just got our asses handed to us" moment. it was more along the lines of "fml, it's over here and i know it." i don't know how he comes back from that mindset. my guess is that he knows and is resigned to his fate.

for the record, i like RR and wished he was successful here, but i think both parties (RR and UM) are ready for the next chapter.

hopefully jackson pulls a mike tomlin

....and wows in the interview process.

"tough"

perfect word to describe this team. remember...this is stanford. they don't get their pick of the litter of the all of the top talent due to the academic restrictions. i love the way they play.

please come home, jim.....

harbaugh seem like the kind

harbaugh seem like the kind of guy who has a little more "hand" with his wife....

i also believe JH's first wife who he has a kid with lives in Cali (not necessarily the Bay Area, but within a couple of hours) which may also be swaying his potential decision.

personally, i'm going to let him sleep on his big win last night and hope he wakes up ready to come to AA.

man up?

man up? last time i checked = 15 credits x 8 semesters = 120 credits = diploma.

let's talk about what's really important....

moving the winter classic back to 8 will spare me and the rest of the world from having to watch UConn play in a BCS bowl

goner....

he can't keep his job after this. maybe wannstedt just steps back in and takes the reins for one last run in 2011.

he shouldn't

he can make more $$$ in the pros and he is the OC for a young team with a lot of good pieces in place. this would be a step backwards unless he wanted another shot at a college head coaching gig (which I bet even he would say he wouldn't).

16 credits is damn near impossible for an athlete...

I never took more than 15 in a semester and I rarely even had a job let alone had to deal w/ practice, film, study table, travel, etc. He clearly was in a pretty dire situation to have had signed up for 16 credits in the fall semester (otherwise, why not just load up on credit hours in the winter when football isn't so time consuming....)

I'm just sayin'.....

that Tate is like 80% of the kids I went to school with at his age....except for the fact that he's in the pressure cooker of major collegiate athletics on top of the academics. Regardless, I'm saying anything about the young man that hundreds of people haven't posted before. The coach said it himself, he needs to fulfill his duties as a student first and foremost.

it's clear Tate hasn't

it's clear Tate hasn't matured all THAT much from last year. that said, he's just a 19-20 year old kid who hasn't "figured it out" yet. It sucks because I'd like to have him around the program for the next 2 years regardless of the CC situation.

do you expect anything else? foster is an idiot. did he even watch the game? or did he just see clips of RR yelling at a few guys and fill in the blank on his own? jesus, it's almost like he works for the free press.
Amen - yes we can be mad despite the outstanding effort our guys put out there last night, the mistakes we made were just killers (turnovers, 3rd and 24 etc). the team is young and will learn from a tough loss like this, but goddammit we could have beat that team last night. i think we can all be mad that we lost a game that we didn't get outplayed in (compared to last week in EL). i'm not bashing RR or the coaches or any of the young men who fought so admirably last night, but it's OK to be mad. frankly, i hope the whole team is mad knowing we let one slip away last night.
I'm torn... Watching the game live, my gut reaction was "it's Tate time." you know the argument...no timeouts left, tate is superhuman, etc. moreover, with Tate, the offense just frankly has more of the playbook available. With that said, after a (unrestful) night of sleep, I'm OK with leaving D-Rob in. I actually wasn't happy to see him come in during the 4th quarter (freshman kid from Florida....30 degrees....been sitting cold for 3+ hours, etc), but he was a spark that got us back into the game. He EARNED the right to try and lead the team on that last drive. I don't think letting Tate sit was a way to punish Tate, but rather rewarding the guy with the hot hand. Bottom line...this is a lose/lose decision for Rich. If Tate goes back in and doesn't get it done, people would question why not let D-Rob go back in. He did right by D-Rob by giving him an opportunity to succeed. While painful today, hopefully the events of last night go a long way in helping to develop both guys.
We are not the University of Illinois. Awful.
5 turnovers and only lose by 2 Iowa is a good team, but not drastically better than us. Minus the pick 6, they played pretty much mistake free and barely held on for the win. no such thing as a "moral victory" but think we can play with some of the more physical teams in the Big 10
Regardless... Iowa would have kept the ball anyway due to the roughing the kicker call. I know being backed up on your own 2 is daunting, but you can only hope that the offense could have gotten a little push for some more breathing room. Plus, Zoltan boomed that punt and we still let them return it for 20 yards (even after bouncing around). Point is, a lot of things happened which eventually allowed Iowa to put 6 on the board.
what's the point of being a fan? emotional over-reactions are part of this thing....
Fumbled punt = no points while being a complete disastetr, the fumbled punt didn't mean anything in the scheme of things. we were already called for roughing the kicker and stopped them in the red zone.
Verlander Believe in the power of the Verlander. A loss today would make this the worst sports weekend in recent memory. I'm assuming the Twins win today which would unfortunately make us have to go back to that house of horrors on Tuesday afternoon. So much for Greinke throwing a gem to wrap up the Cy Young....
