I think the most hilarious part is watching the presumptive poll movement. Let's say Rutgers does go on a tear and somehow... wins 7 games in a row (6 of which are apparently in the top 25)... that only jumps them from 25th to 16th.
I mean, they obviously think highly of the Big Ten having all but one of their conference games against ranked opponents (including Minnesota and Maryland, lol).
This is great comic relief.

My submission titled "Leave The Offense On The Field We're Going For It".
With all due respect to the immense writing talents of Heiko and Nick, Brady Hoke is not walking through that door.
There are a host of Michigan fans (rightly so) traumatized by the past. Well not here, not today.
Mighty Meeeechigan is installed by Vegas as a near touchdown favorite. There's a reason for this! Mormon Touchdown Jesus doesn't wake up by noon Eastern Standard Time (and he's actually been quite overworked so far this season). Jake "Don't Call Me Shirley" Rudock will stand tall in the pocket and deliver throws as of yet unseen as the whispers of an NFL first rounder BYU defensive tackle are just that, whispers. Ty Isaac and DeVeon Smith will take turns running over outmatched BYU linebackers as Michigan sustains drives with aplomb that would make even Lloyd crack a curmudgeonly smile.
Today is the day.
Jabrill Peppers is going to truck an unsuspecting slot receiver so hard on a third down that BYU has no choice but to stand aside and let him march down the field for a punt return on the following play.
Rashan Gary will witness an absolute devastating DLine attack from the Wolverines and know, deep down inside, he's next.
There will be a moment, probably in the second quarter, when the stripes miss an unspeakably obvious pass interference call. But every player, every coach, every one of the one-hundred thousand fans, and Coach's clipboard will know what happens next. I don't even have to say it. But it will *work*.
A peace and calm will come over the stadium from the resultant tirade. Order will be restored.
Zero turnovers. Four offensive touchdowns. One punt return TD. One more rousing chorus of The Victors and the faithful are rewarded and the traumatized shall once again know the feeling of domination.
Michigan 35, BYU 14.

The Stauskas family has been working towards this moment (NBA) for years. It's well deserved, and while we want him to win us more Big Ten championships and Final Fours, can't deny the kid his due.
The most telling sign (apart from the moment of unguarded honesty by Stauskas' dad a few months back) was when Beilein was asked about the scholarship situation being 1 above the limit with the new class coming in and, without missing a beat, Beilein deadpanned "It'll work itself out".

People are confusing 2013 Big East Louisville and 2014 AAC Louisville.
2013 Strength of schedule: 9.
2014: Strength of schedule 108.
Of any team seeded 11 or higher (44 teams) in the tournament Louisville's SOS ranks 43rd. The only team with a worse strength of schedule with a tournament seed higher than 11 is.... Wichita State.
Louisville has pushed to the maximum the margin-aware methods of efficiency ratings by absolutely murdering inferior competition. Here's their record against NCAA tournament teams this year:
(6) UNC L 84-93
(14) LA-Lafayette W 113-74
(8) Kentucky L 66-73
(8) Memphis L 67-73
(7) UConn W 76-64
(5) Cincinnati L 66-69
(5) Cincinnati W 58-57
(8) Memphis L 66-72
(7) UConn W 81-48
(7) UConn W 71-61
That's a 5-5 record against tournament teams, none higher than a 5-seed whom they split the season series with. They beat the same 7-seed three times and lost to a 6-seed and three games to 8-seeds.

I think the tournament run Nintendo analogies would have been better served via Mike Tyson's Punch-Out.
Michigan can expect to overwhelm Piston Honda with their offense in the opening weekend, but they might get tripped up by a team with an equally powerful offense, Bald Bull, in the second weekend.. but even then you're at worst a coin flip.
Michigan will have problems when they run into teams that can score points and have a lot of size (Iowa, Wisconsin, Arizona, Noah Vonleh, ISU's Ejim, AJ Hammons, Sandman, Super Macho Man).
The good news is this year, unlike past years, there are no Anthony Davis Kentucky Mike Tyson's in the field. Michigan will have a real chance in every game.
|2 years 24 weeks ago||Villanova and Syracuse are||
Villanova and Syracuse are locks for Buffalo. Even though UM might finish slightly higher than Syracuse on the S-Curve the committee will basically say Buffalo/Milwaukee are equidistant and work to minimize travel for the top seeds overall by shipping Michigan to Milwaukee.
|2 years 24 weeks ago||It's super easy to predict||
It's super easy to predict what teams are in or out every year... you can get 64 of 68 teams just by glancing through the end of the season. Last year over half of the matrix picked all 68 teams correctly and over 80% had 67 of 68 teams.
How teams will be seeded is much more delicate and takes some degree of reverse-engineering how the NCAA committee is going to decide things that year.

You need Minnesota to win because right now they are 51st in the RPI depriving Michigan of 2 Top-50 wins.
|2 years 24 weeks ago||Villanova and Virginia both||
Villanova and Virginia both need to lose a game. Minnesota, Stanford, and Nebraska all need to stay in the top-50 RPI. Michigan needs to win tonight, win the BTT against Wisconsin in the finals.
After all of that they then need to hope that the committee decided they needed to have alternate scenarios that allows for the winner of the BTT final to have an impact on seeding since the game concludes 30 mins prior to the selection show.
I mean... what if the BTT final goes into double OT? They could announce the brackets before the game is even over!
What are you thinking Delaney? OH RIGHT.... you're the only game on in primetime on selection sunday == TV eyeballs == TV money.

Minnesota and Stanford are sitting 47th and 48th in the RPI also. Nebraska is at 50th. If those teams drop even just a little bit Michigan's 10-5 "Top 50" wins suddenly becomes a pedestrian 5-5. That's your difference between a 2-seed and a 3-seed at this point and it's largely out of Michigan's hands.
Although a run to the BTT finals would end all speculation. It's just that Michigan prefers to end up opposite Wichita State or Florida... not Arizona.
|2 years 25 weeks ago||Nebraska will finish the||
Nebraska will finish the conference at .500. That's great but COY isn't solely based on "performance versus expectation" it's also based on end results. When you win league championships you get the inside tracks for these accolades and rightfully so.
Also, Izzo has only 2 outright COY awards in the B1G so this one needs to get to JB so he can pass Izzo in a couple more seasons.

Tourney seeding was fickle, UM got barely bumped from a 3-seed due to tournament not wanting rematches. And Michigan only missed a one-seed because of the Brust 3 pointer and the indiana rollout. Without those two losses (hell, throw in the meltdown @PSU), Michigan is the outright B1G regular season champs and on the 1 line.
There's no way Michigan can get to the 1-line this year. It's way too crowded. 2-seed is the ceiling.

|2 years 38 weeks ago||They've started 4 of the 8||
They've started 4 of the 8 games so far this season with just abysmal shooting... like less than 25% from the field for most of the first half in those games.
Michigan also has the most athletic, yet invisible/disinterested NBA lottery pick ever.
Improvement by the freshmen will probably be offset by them getting worn down as the year goes on.
The team creeps closer to the bubble, Arizona is the last chance for a marquee non-conference victory, and there are a ton of good teams in the B1G - Iowa/Minnesota in addition to the elite group of MSU/OSU/Wisconsin - that are going to give the Wolverines fits.
The players have so much heart and never give up, they just lack that killer instinct and dig themselves huge holes. Hope they can back their way into the tourney and then make a big run.

|2 years 39 weeks ago||Which matchup analysis do you||
Which matchup analysis do you disagree with exactly?
|2 years 39 weeks ago||Yes||
|2 years 39 weeks ago||Actually||
Actually, only 33 points (one defensive td vs Iowa). They came on 3 TD drives, two of which were set up by turnovers on short fields and 4 FGs.
Over that span Michigan had 30 drives on offense. They accrued 434 yards of offense or roughly 14 yards per drive. They punted 16 times, committed 4 turnovers, 4 field goals and 3 touchdowns. The half ended mercifully three times. They averaged 1.1 points per possession against the #4, 13, 43 and 65th ranked scoring defenses.
Now to correct this fallacy that the spread was worse versus tough opponents in 2010 than our historically bad 2013 offense:
Over those five 2010 losses Michigan only had 28 offensive first half possessions. They scored 4 touchdowns (all of which were drives of 60+ yards) and kicked two field goals. They also missed 3 field goals, turned the ball over 7 times, punted 10 times and ran out the half twice.
Over those 28 drives they gained 994 yards of offense or roughly 35.5 yards per drive. They scored 1.2 points per possession although if they had had a competant place kicker like Brendan Gibbons back then (/sarcasm) it would have been 1.5 ppp. This was against the #5, 7, 25, 39, and 49th ranked scoring defenses.
TLDR Stat Conclusion:
In the first half of its losses the 2010 offense played against slightly better defenses but moved the ball more than twice as effectively and scored more total points despite having 18% fewer possessions.
