I've got disc golf league at 1, and a few beers are in the bag. Went with Perrin's Hot Box Brown because the temp took a dip today. Felt like a step closer to fall.

I echo her sentiment. I've worked for 6 years now as a teacher without any of the pay bumps I was supposed to get. The state (governor) keeps shitting on teachers.

Yeah, I've had that happen a time or two. Not uncommon.

The two highest scores I've gotten from competitions came from a double IPA with orange zest, and a black ale. Both around the 41-42 pt range and pretty good beers. But my personal favorite recipes are an oak aged Scottish wee heavy, and a hoppy red ale. Here's the red recipe.
Old Kentucky Shark
11lbs 2 row pale malt
Mash 60 min @ 151
1oz Simcoe hops @ 60 min
Ferment about 4 days @ 67 degrees
The first time I brewed this beer, I was experimenting with overnight mashing and it was a BIG success. Malty, flavorful, clear. The second brewing did not have the overnight mash, and while it was still really good, it lacked a touch of the maltiness the other had. Maybe it was a degree warmer the first time, maybe not. But there was a slight difference.
I always create my own recipes. I do some research looking at other recipes, and use Designing Great Beers for style guidelines and percentages. I love going into the homebrew shop and tasting and smelling the malts before I make decisions. There's a lot of variance in malts, chocolate malt from one maltster is never the same as the next guys.

I've used gelatin with fantastic results on some occasions, but I don't know that I'll do it with hoppier beers anymore. They just don't have the aroma that dry hopping should have given it. I'd heard that it was a problem some people had, and after doing it a couple of times, I saw it in my beers as well. But everything outside of hop forward beers, I'd definitely agree to clarify with gelatin.

My setup varies. I've got a single burner, but I use an old kettle for a hot liquor tank, an igloo cooler for a mash tun, and a keggle for boiling. I have a chugged pump that I use to move liquids throughout everything. Occasionally I do a BIAB batch and just use the keggle. The pump makes everything so much easier and quicker. I've been brewing for many years, and that is something I wish I had gotten much earlier.

Second. Soccer are super clean, super simple, they just pop. I also like all of the baseball jerseys for the same reason. I like that they aren't full button front either.

Had a few at the taproom earlier. Bell's Bourbon Barrel Hell Hath No Fury was a highlight. But I just polished off a Shorts Freedom of 78. Not bad.

I second all of the recommendations from Hemlock Philosopher. A good roasty stout can handle the sweetness that fruit can add. I brewed a blueberry stout a few years ago that really turned out nicely.

Have you looked into brew in a bag? All you need is one larger vessel, and you'll be doing all-grain brewing. I use that method with my keggle and I've had award winning results. It's going to be a whole lot cheaper than the Blichmann system.
