read "The Emperor Wears No Clothes" by Jack Herer. Chapter 9 deals with 'Economics: Energy, Environment, and Commerce". Essentially, early oil barons like Rockefeller and Rothschild kept proponents of methanol based fuels (Like Henry Ford, who grew marijuana on his estate after 1937) out of the market with incredibly low prices. Early cellulose based fuels such as the kind produced in Iron Mountain, Michigan in the 30's used trees as their primary source of cellulose. Modern processing of hemp oil is up to 4 times more effective than that of using trees, and is sustainable. The bottom line conversion- each acre of hemp would yield ~1,000 gallons of methanol, or 500 gallons of gasoline. The US has 90 million acres of unused farmland used as a "soil bank", along with ~500 million acres of marginal unplanted arable land. Farming only 6% of continental US acreage with biomass crops (hemp) would provide all of America's gas and oil energy needs, ending dependence upon fossil fuels. The huge concentrations of biomass and clean burning fuels would also clean the environment.
The catch is, first you have to get Government approval/legalization...THEN you have to deal with energy companies, petro-chem, pharmaceutics, liquor, tobacco, insurance companies and banks etc...
So yeah, most likely not happening in any of our lifetimes.
There is a clip from two or three years ago of Carl expressing his displeasure with Ohio State playing in the national championship game. His quote is along the lines of "heh heh heeyy, more like the ohio state suckeyes!". It was awesome, and I will do my best to locate it after I get out of work.
Just did some internet browsing and saw that there are no provisions for dispensaries in the current incarnation of the Michigan law. Only for primary caregivers that can grow for up to 5 patients. But yeah, big money was never the idea- just proliferation of the lifestyle. Ideally what I would like to see and believe would go a long way towards national decriminalization/legalization are state reciprocity agreements between existing and future medical marijuana states.
But my extremely biased opinion (being a recent resident) for the most pot-tolerant state in the US is Colorado. Here in Denver, the city voted for adult marijuana possession to be the lowest priority for the police department; to go along with the "shrug of the shoulders" policy most cops have in the college/mountain/resort towns in the surrounding area. There's probably ~20 dispensaries 5-10 min in any direction from my house, with ads on billboards downtown. With Michigan having passed Medical Marijuana laws of it's own, I have many dreams of returning to my home State and cornering my slice of an emerging market...
My first thought is- fellow slot receiver Terrance Robinson.
[Ed]: Sorry, missed the post about RR confirming it was Denard. OP just had "Robinson". But cheers and virtual high fives all around for team speed.
My brother emailed me that pic this morning and that's exactly what he described it as. We do play music during practices, and that doesn't look like a football stance of any kind so...
I would very much like to see all ~50 or so players on our roster with dreadlocks doing some sort of loosely choreographed dance similar to this. All the dreads just bouncin' around all crazy like. OH LEEET DOOO ITT!!
Now this is the law of the jungle, as old and as true as the sky, and the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die.
As the creeper that girdles the tree trunk, the law runneth forward and back; for the strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack.
Wash daily from nose tip to tail tip; drink deeply, but never too deep; And remember the night is for hunting and forget not the day is for sleep.
The jackal may follow the tiger, but, cub, when thy whiskers are grown, Remember the wolf is a hunter—go forth and get food of thy own.
Keep peace with the lords of the jungle, the tiger, the panther, the bear; And trouble not Hathi the Silent, and mock not the boar in his lair.
When pack meets with pack in the jungle, and neither will go from the trail, Lie down till the leaders have spoken; it may be fair words shall prevail.
When ye fight with a wolf of the pack ye must fight him alone and afar, Lest others take part in the quarrel and the pack is diminished by war.
The lair of the wolf is his refuge, and where he has made him his home, not even the head wolf may enter, not even the council may come.
The lair of the wolf is his refuge, but where he has digged it too plain, The council shall send him a message, and so he shall change it again.
If ye kill before midnight be silent and wake not the woods with your bay, lest ye frighten the deer from the crop and thy brothers go empty away.
Ye may kill for yourselves, and your mates, and your cubs as they need and ye can; but kill not for pleasure of killing, and seven times never kill man.
If ye plunder his kill from a weaker, devour not all in thy pride, pack-right is the right of the meanest; so leave him the head and the hide.
The kill of the pack is the meat of the pack. Ye must eat where it lies; and no one may carry away of that meat to his lair, or he dies.
The kill of the wolf is the meat of the wolf. He may do what he will, but, till he is given permission, the pack may not eat of that kill.
Lair right is the right of the mother. From all of her years she may claim one haunch of each kill for her litter, and none may deny her the same.
Cub right is the right of the yearling. From all of his pack he may claim full gorge when the killer has eaten; and none may refuse him the same.
Cave right is the right of the father, to hunt by himself for his own; He is freed from all calls to the pack. He is judged by the council alone.
Because of his age and his cunning, because of his gripe and his paw, in all that the law leaveth open the word of the head wolf is law.
Now these are the laws of the jungle, and many and mighty are they; but the head and the hoof of the law and the haunch and the hump is— [Go Blue!]
by Team Teamwork. It's a mash-up album of random indy-ish hip hop and music from The Ocarina of Time. It'll blow your mind if you are of a sufficient nerd rating. My favorite track is 'No Hook' by Jay Z mixed with Meeting the Owl.
