That was my Freshman year, and like others have said, I have never heard 100,000 people be so quiet.  And then the reverse when Colorado came back to the big house and again threw up a hail mary at the end of the game and it wasn't caught. Everyone went nuts.

I do still have my 97 box set.  I have no way to play it anymore, but I am keeping it until VHS makes a retro comeback.

I have two.  The first is…

I have two.  The first is the same UM shirt I have worn for every game this season.  Its ready to go for tonight.  The second is my mom isn't going to watch the game so we can win.  It started when I was in undergrad and my parents would watch the games.  She isn't a sports fan to begin with, so when UM wasn't doing well, she would wander out of the living room, and then they would do better. Reversion to the mean?  No, its because she wasn't in the living room is the only logical reason.  She was allowed to sit in the kitchen and watch, but this year moved to skipping watching entirely.  So she has promised to not watch any of the game.

Same for me.  I had a friend who wrestled at Michigan, so I asked if he had any insider info on the coach search, and he pointed me here.  Been reading it ever since.

I was there in '97 as a senior when Michigan won its last National Championship and my son is going to be there as a Freshman tonight!

Wow, That is the high school I went to.   A number of years later.  Of all the things I expected to see on mgoblog, my little suburban high school was not on the list.

This was my Freshman year. I still remember how quite 100,000 people were at the end of the Colorado game.  Also how a friend was upset when they sold a ticket for a later game in the season, not because the missed the game, but because the coupon on the back for Wendy's was worth more than they sold it for

I graduated in '98 and my oldest just got accepted to Michigan too and will start this summer.  I am buying him this as a welcome to Michigan gift.  Can't wait to see him in the shirt.

Thanks, I can't wait to see more of this.  One question I would have is how much of an effect would number of open roster spots have. So if you recruit highly ranked players, but more leave early, then you have more spots open to fill with highly ranked players.  So you might have the same number of 4/5 stars on the team at any time, but have to replace them twice as fast as someone else.  Or since you lose about 1/4 of the team each year, is the variance in that not significant

Loved that place. I had a warehouse membership and took my friend to shop.  I would pay for that and he would pay me back with lots of lunch specials there.

Another hint is to use private mode when you are looking.  Sites will track your history and if you look multiple times crank up the price.

I was a senior that year, and

I was a senior that year, and was lucky enough to get to go to the game.  My parent's neighbor in Pittsburgh was PSU alum and had season tickets they could not use. So my parents, me and my girlfriend all went up for it.  We were sitting in the middle of the PSU alum section wearing our UM gear, and the alum around us teased us leading up to the game (mostly harmless).  But after the first quarter they got real quiet.  I did see the hit, and everyone just paused after that.  You could tell it took the wind out of the PSU players.   I met up with some friends from HS for halftime who were PSU students, and they apologized for how little effort the team was putting up at that point.   It was an amazing game to be at.  Also I remember how bad the fog was leaving there. We drove 10 mph and could see maybe 3 feet in front of the car.

Physics

Hi.  I majored in physics at UM, then went on to get my PhD and even did a post doc.  And have now been in corporate for a while now.  I knew I wanted to do science since early HS, but not which type, I took physics and Orgo freshman year, and decided I liked physics better.  To me it seemed you took a single equation and used it to explain many many things, where Chem was not as simplifiable.   He is smart if he knows that just an undergrad is not that useful, Once you have a PhD, you can keep going in physics, with its own issues (hard to find prof jobs, and you do less physics the higher you get).  But it is valued in the real word and alone has done 90% of getting me jobs.  Both from the skills you come out with, and people use it as a short hand for  "can do big, self led projects, has quantitative skills"   Feel free to contact me if you or he have more questions.

Glad to hear you had a good

Glad to hear you had a good time.  It was mostly as we were walking around before the game.  I understand the need to yell dumb stuff at people in opposing colors, but there is a limit to fun vs drunk mean.   I was probably more bothered than my parents.  And it did let me tease my cousin who went there about the horrible fans.

My parents neighbors had

My parents neighbors had season PSU tickets and could not go to that game.  It was my senior year, so my parents bought the tickets off them, and my girlriend and I came in and the 4 of us drove from Pittsburgh to State college to see the game.  We had our UM stuff on and got yelled at multiple times on the way to the game.  I was with my parents.  Seriously rude.

We were sitting in the penn state alumni section and got gently teased before the game.  As soon as it started they got quiet real quick.  Then we just got glared at the rest of the game.

I still rember that hit as the hardest I have ever seen.  The whole atmospere after just changed to, 'wow, they came to beat us, and beat us hard'

I met some friends from high school at halftime to catch up, and they aplogized for how badly they were playing.

The other thing I remember was the horrible fog on the drive back home.  We were going 25 at most and could see about 10 feet in front of us.

But it was an amazing game to go to in person. One of my Favorites.

Thanks for the warning rob Thanks for the warning rob f,
Since I'm from Pittsburgh I'll have to make sure to skip that part of the watching. Cubs highlights. Hmmm So I should have time to go get a new beer from the fridge, barely.

Kidding. I've adopted the Cubs as my Chicago team.
mgoreader

I am the un-named mgolurker who finally made an account after reading the blog since 2007.  So get to watch the game with other UM fans and guilted into finally logging in.  Its a good day.
