Who does Harbaugh slap in this scenario? Also, are the Harbaugh children willing to block? We need answers.

Lest we forget, he did not serve as head coach for the Phil Martelli Charity Classic

It does seem like NIL has…

It does seem like NIL has stepped up, particularly very recently (holding the roster together during our portal window). Maybe its just that little bit of BPONE that Houston some how didn't eradicate, but I'm still not entirely sold considering we just sent 18 players to the combine. Last year's NIL focus was keeping guys out of the draft, this year is to keep them out of the portal I suppose.

Maybe NIL was not a factor in all 18 + Sabb, and everything is roses. But... let's see.

Exactly how I feel. To go further on the risks of B) - is the next guy/staff able to spot and develop talent at the same level as Jim and anyone he takes with him? If not, is he able to turn the NIL story around enough (on top of being more committed to M in January) to recruit a more translatable level of talent here? I have my doubts. Not saying its impossible, but I have my doubts.

Jim with his warts + the bench of coaching talent and churn of good coaches into good job opportunities elsewhere (that eventually could come back home) is the best situation for Michigan.

Not really sure Spanos' rep…

Not really sure Spanos' rep for being cheap matters. They'll talk numbers probably pretty early via agents and Harbaugh will know that answer quickly - cheap is not a long term concern for an NFL owner like meddling or not caring is.

Many have shared this sentiment but my guess is any other concerns are out-weighed by Herbert for Jim. He's going to have immense confidence in his own abilities to right the ship elsewhere, so long as he is given the power to do so.

How much more does he need…

How much more does he need to do to anoint Sherrone than making him the acting HC against Penn State, Maryland, and ohioSt? I don't understand this coach in waiting prospect. Let's say Jim comes back and next year Smart is off to the NFL and Georgia wants to hire Sherrone. Does he pass that opportunity up because he's the coach in waiting at Michigan? That's crazy. There's an obvious successor unless the athletic department goes rogue and that's enough.

and THIS should be the narrative for this championship game, not signs or burger adversity. 2 teams with outstanding coaching and development, running programs in a way the powerhouses do not.

For all the complaints about modern CFB with conference realignment, NIL, portal, etc. - ultimate success from the way Washington and Michigan have constructed their rosters gives the sport hope.

Perhaps seems obvious now,…

Perhaps seems obvious now, but I definitely felt this way (as did others here, namely Brian) prior to this run. Looking at results, it felt impossible for a Michigan team recruiting the way they do to compete with the rosters of Alabama, Clemson, ohiost, Georgia, etc. that had dominated the CFP era. They were littered with 5 stars, we were lucky to grab 1 or 2 per class. Therefore, high 4 and 5 stars seemed like a prerequisite.

Clearly Michigan has shown another path, one defined by recruiting a type of player that needs to sit in the program a while, developing them well, and getting more college production with them vs. them having some peak pro potential.

No buyout, no NFL clause…

No buyout, no NFL clause. The no flirting thing is only on the table if we'd prefer no Harbaugh to a Harbaugh with his eyes on the NFL...

3 straight B1G titles and CFP appearances, I am completely happy with this Harbaugh. Pay him whatever gets it done and don't put any strings on it. If he leaves, I'm not worried about a buyout to pay Moore's salary.

I'd even go so far as to add some protection for him against the 2 active NCAA investigations. UM does not have some leverage to hold over him, but if they offer enough love I think they can get him to look past the Chargers this offseason and get 1 year closer to him being too old for the NFL :)
