| 1 hour 53 min ago | Well, |
My undergrad commencement speaker was Jennifer Granholm. I'm not really ashamed to state my belief that she was a shitty, shitty governor -- and wasn't even a Michigan alum at that. |

...this isn't your fault, but can we put to rest the usage of the word "revitalization" when we talk about these sorts of things (X Games, Gilbertville, etc.)? Detroit is, and always will be, its own city that will NEVER be how it once was. It will never be the third-largest city in the country, nor will it roar with hyperactivity like it did in the 1950's. The era has passed. And that's completely fine. But when I think of revitalization, I think of the massive disparities that are inherent in any urban core (education, literacy, poverty, crime, etc.) and an eventual dismantling of said disparities. And while I applaud these two guys doing their part, this will do virtually nothing to break down the macroeconomic conditions that allow such things to be perpetuated. It will bring excitement to Detroit, sure. But let's call it like it is: it's just the X Games, and it'll have just as much effect on "revitalization" as Tigers games or a Monday Night Football matchup will provide.

what do we do with the profit? Easy. Match Stanford's sports offerings and beat them mercilessly in each one. |

We plan to draw in students from the neighborhood in which we're based (Grandmont-Rosedale). Statistics on the demographics of that neighborhood can be found here: http://datadrivendetroit.org/projects/lisc-bsc/grandmont-rosedale/demogr... |

It's not-for-profit. |
| 2 weeks 4 days ago | Sure. |
The institution is non-profit; in fact, my own concerns about charters echo yours. I've done loads of research on education policy as well as advised for several charters. I wouldn't have decided to join a board unless I believed strongly in the mission and values of the school itself. |

Keep standing in Aaron Craft's general direction when you say that. Thanks. |

Can we just, like, have a Red Cedar Message Board Open Thread and deposit any sort of angst toward that fringe group of douche canoes in a single location? |
| 5 weeks 5 days ago | I dunno. |
I never had a positive experience when I tried to talk to a DG or Kappa at Rick's. |

Er, sorry. My mind just wrapped around the idea of a ND-Ohio State national championship game and temporarily resorted to primal instinct. I ate a car tire. |

| 6 weeks 12 hours ago | Proof of being crucial |
No. It theoretically was crucial. There was no guarantee that the additional possession we would have received was going to change the course of the game. |

I have nothing to say. Any analysis, game observation, or snowflake is basically like a vapor to me at the moment. |

In case you're interested, a contingent is gonna be at Dantanna's near the CNN Center. Gibney's was just totally batshit on Saturday. |

Can we perhaps conveniently pretend that Lavell Blanchard, Pete Vignier, etc. played for someone other than Brian Ellerbe? |

Throughout the past few decades, there's one other Michigan team I've been just as proud of and would likely get dusty about seeing up there: Daniel Horton and the 2004 NIT championship team. I care not for the Fab Five, despite their place in Michigan lore. Bring up the guys that played through a world of shit and mediocre coaches/resources and have them celebrate. |

Marlon, you okay there? I'm just worried, ya know, because there's no CBS in Bolivian, and I hear you're thinking of buying a plane ticket there. |
