| 3 hours 47 min ago | Well I'm glad a bankrupt city |
Well I'm glad a bankrupt city is spending $300 million to make sure hockey fans have access to nice bathrooms. Seems like a good investment when 47% of the city's residents are illiterate: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/05/07/detroit-illiteracy-nearly-half-education_n_858307.html And only 25% of HS freshman will graduate: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=11601692 At least there are cheap homes, since the average price of a home in Detroit? $7,500: http://www.couriermail.com.au/realestate/homes-for-1/story-fnczc1bg-1226559204461 Though no one seems to want to live in the city: http://www.freep.com/article/20130214/NEWS01/130214044/Bing-unveils-Pulte-partnership-to-tear-down-abandoned-homes-buildings Probably because it's the second most dangerous city in the US and getting worse: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/31/detroit-murder-rate-2012_n_2388862.html Which isn't going to help the fact that the city is insolvent: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-22514588 And is currently DEFAULTING on debts: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-22914431 I challenge anyone to read this simple Wikipedia article and say that a new hockey arena is the best way to spend $300 million: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decline_of_Detroit Hell, who is going to loan them any money and at what rate? |

The ratio of girls in sundresses to girls in parkas is skewed in their favor. Granted, I know Kentucky isn't Florida in terms of weather. Also, happened to be in a spring break location this year when UK had their break... I felt like I was at the Miss America pageant. |

| 6 hours 44 min ago | Here's an idea. Rather than |
Here's an idea. Rather than catering to a super wealthy family, maybe they could take that $300... and tell I don't know, a few thousand middle class families: "We'll pay for 50% of a new house if you relocate to the city of Detroit." That's what will get you long term success... not a new arena every 20 years because the owners want more luxury boxes. And how exactly is the city going to MAKE more money off the Wings than they already are now? The arena is going to be smaller (fewer people going to the game... speaking of which, how much money do you spend outside of a hockey game anyways? $10 for parking and maybe $20 for a quick bite to eat? ooooooo get that chedda' Detroit). |
| 7 hours 16 min ago | Useful for what? To keep our |
Useful for what? To keep our heads in the sand about the absolute dire situation Detroit is in? Go build your $300 million stadium while half the city crumbles, give America another laugh at Detroit's expense. The city and state governments (and the people who continue to vote these yo-yos into office) have brought this upon themselves. If this goes through, Detroit better not get any damned sympathy from 60 Minutes and the national news who so love to exalt the "glories of future Detroit". Why doesn't the city first address the fact that 47% of Detroit residents are functionally illiterate? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/05/07/detroit-illiteracy-nearly-half-education_n_858307.html THAT IS 3RD WORLD COUNTRY SHIT RIGHT THERE. |
| 7 hours 23 min ago | " if everything goes |
" if everything goes according to plan." Public sector thinking at it's finest. That's why half of California's small cities are on the road to bankruptcy. "It's the 90s! Life is good and it will always be good! Here, let's spend some more money!" Correct me if I'm wrong... but DETROIT HAS AN EMERGENCY FINANCIAL MANAGER, THERE ARE 100,000 VACANT HOMES AND LOTS, UNEMPLOYMENT THRU THE ROOF, etc. etc. Probably the "worst" major city in the US. And they want to spend $300 million on a stadium? Sorry, I missed the news story that said the Joe was unusable.

Amateur poster? Bro... you have 4,870 points. That's like Jenna Jameson calling herself a virgin. Awesome story, looks like UM has a good chance to win it with the new innovations. Does anyone know how much ground we have to make up from past years? Were they beaten by minutes, hours, or days? |
| 1 day 58 min ago | Sorry, let me re-interate. |
Sorry, let me re-interate. That did come off poorly. It is the position which is most reliant of athleticism and isn't really as dependent on "soccer skill". It frustrates me that this should be the "easiest" position to solidify, even if the US can't put out the best SOCCER players, I'd hope we can find ATHLETES who can be taught to play defense. Instead, it's (at least to me, and I'd venture many other feel the same) the weakest position the US fields, game after game. Honestly, sometimes it looks like the backs' shoes weigh 2 pounds each. (I wrote that comment after a US defensive player passed the ball nicely to a Honduran player 10 yards away and then allowed him to dribble 30 yards and launch a shot on goal from 10-15 yards away without so much as touching him. Sorry I expect more from professionals than high school players. What's the second thing you learn as a defender? Attack the ball.) |
| 1 day 1 hour ago | Why can't the US train |
Why can't the US train functional defensive players? Honestly, having played defense my whole (soccer) life, it isn't hard at all. Just DON'T SCREW UP. I swear the backs are completely inept in 50% of the games I watch. You don't even have to be good at soccer! Just don't turn the ball over in your own end and don't let them get any shots off. Foul and boom the ball up field if needed. Nope, they'd rather turn it over and let the opposition waltz in and take a shot from 18 yards. So frustrating. Foul them 40 yards out, damn it. |
| 1 day 1 hour ago | The game is in Utah... so I'm |
The game is in Utah... so I'm guessing the tailgating beforehand wasn't all that rambunctious. So yes, very quiet. A lot of pretty decent passing from the US, Bradley had a really nice run a few minutes ago. We're winning the possession battle. But Honduras has been coming on more and more as the game goes on. |

The history was a one way street until now. And now that you say it, I would like to change my name to "david from wyoming has verbal and fecal incontinence". Thank you very much in advance. ~HERMHugs and kisses david, I'm sure you'll grow out of the bed wetting eventually. |
| 1 day 2 hours ago | I really like kids like this |
I really like kids like this who can think not only beyond college, beyond the NFL (if they are lucky enough), to their future "real" career. After watching "Broke", it really struck me that even a good (maybe not great) NFL player is retired by 30-33. That means they either, 1. have to live off their earnings for fifty years, or 2. starting working. And that's if they're good enough to make it to the NFL for a few years. I know it's hard to sell a lot of kids on their lives 15 years later, but you'd have to figure it's a factor for many. That list makes me happy, it actually shows he's a STUDENT-athlete; student first. I'll be pulling for Michigan to get this kid as much as Hand. ...okay, almost as much as Hand. |
| 1 day 5 hours ago | Especially with how important |
Especially with how important (and sometimes ignored) technique is for O-Linemen, I think it's especially beneficial to have that early coaching and knowledge. Look at Kugler... he's 6'4 as well, but I think we all have a lot more confidence in his potential because of his Dad. And hell, the kid's a few years from stepping on campus so getting worried about size now is pretty premature (not that you, TWSWBC, are... but I saw other comments).

| 1 day 5 hours ago | Shut the fuck up. I am riled |
Shut the fuck up. I am riled up, happy? You're a piece of garbage who spends at least 75% of your time attacking random people on here. "Herm" hasn't been around for a while, sorry I don't feel like changing an irrelevant name to suit a little bitch like yourself. You start EVERY SINGLE POST with a personal attack. Can we honestly take a look at banning this chachbag? Let's take a sampling (i.e. 80% of the his most recent posts... go look for yourselves) of the awesome insights and nice things you have to contribute: "Are you in high school? Honest question, since you do not seem to understand very basic stats concepts..." "Do you honestly not remebers Tigers games 10 years ago? Getting shelled for 8 runs in the first inning is not fun." "DERRRRR. Prince is entirely not the problem." "Who would you have close? Oh, right. There aren't much better options..." "Stop drinking at the bar and drink at home. Problem solved." ""lolwut? Have you seen other school's schedules?" "What exactly would you expect him to say? "I did PED's, please suspend me for 50 games"?" "(eye roll)" "(eye roll)" "You have no god damn idea what you are talking about." "Nothing like Herm calling someone else a liar" "No. The advances stats describe the team in a more complete way then just the total number of wins the Tigers have. You are missing the forest through the trees in your chase to be as negative as possible." "It's pretty clear you don't like watching Tigers games. So maybe go mow the lawn?" "Take a stats class and learn something." Sorry MGoBloggers, I had to use so much space to prove what a worthless poster this little guy is. Honestly, at least throw out a real opinion once in a while. You're just a little bitch who likes to try to start fights on a MESSAGE BOARD for God's sake. Herm was a novelty, it was funny for a while, then it wasn't, so Herm's been gone for 4-5 months. I'd really like to see what your home life is like, because if you're anything like you are on here, you must lead a sad and miserable existence. No wonder you live in a state where it's easy to avoid human contact. I may occasionally be sarcastic or condescending at times, but at least I try to back up what I state with some valid points or evidence. |
| 1 day 6 hours ago | Downloaded it and playing UM |
Downloaded it and playing UM / ohio. I got my last NCAA game not last year, but the year before. This is the same game. The grass looks like 1970s astroturf. Recruiting looks like it will be cooler. Also, now the players all have random names? UM QB Landry? (who just happens to be a fast black dude wearing #12). The animations look exactly the same. Play selection, the intro screen, the commentary is the same, the colors looks brighter / slightly better, graphics are the same, the fans look... worse than in NCAA '12? Is this usual for a demo? I mean do they have all the kinks worked out yet? So far I definitely will not be spending $60 for this. I just want to play as Georgia Southern... speaking of which can you download user-created teams for free anywhere? EDIT: This is freaking terrible. Miller rolls out to the left and starts to sprint upfield. An outside linebacker is directly vertical, maybe 15 yards downfield. Maintain your zone and predict the scramble? Hell naw, computer wants to make the lineback sprint into the middle of the field (where there are already 3 players within 5 yards) to cover some receiver. Miller sprints 15 yards into the endzone without a M player within 5 yards. EDIT 2: Gardner scrambles outside, two DBs charge in... receiver is trying to find someone to block 25 yards downfield. Few plays later, M has the ball on the ohio 1... ohio comes out with THREE linemen. RB walks in. |

| 1 day 7 hours ago | Over a 3-loss Mississippi |
Over a 3-loss Mississippi State team that competes in the SEC?! You're insane! No Big Ten Team could even win 3 games in the SEC! And look at the Big 12! They throw for like 600 yards a game! It's just like the NFL (where playing defense is also illegal). /ESPN'd |
| 1 day 7 hours ago | No, I think what you mean is |
No, I think what you mean is "If the SEC does something, it's undoubtably insane and they're trying to buy recruits. If Michigan does something, it's obviously completely altruistic and just, no matter the circumstances." Because every Michigan basketball players NEEDS an iPad, a "player's lounge, a recreation area featuring lounge chairs, video game systems and an 84-inch television screen that also has the ability to be split into four separate 42-inch monitors", " three built-in touch-screen monitors resting below a large block "M". http://www.annarbor.com/sports/um-basketball/a-look-inside-michigan-basketballs-new-crown-jewel-the-player-development-center/ . Or a " $26.1 million indoor football practice facility". Or indoor and outdoor lacrosse fields, including an indoor arena. I got tired of looking this up, but there's plenty more if you'd like more evidence. Please, lets continue to rail on the excesses of the SEC. I'm enjoying the hypocrisy. |
| 1 day 8 hours ago | Hey, well its a good thing |
Hey, well its a good thing that the NCAA mandates that "student"-athletes don't get extra benefits not available to every other student. I mean have you seen their weight room? The NCRB puts it to shame. These guys are average "students" and are treated as such. What a farce. Just allow non-students to represent the school as athletes, its so rediculous to continue to pretend that the current college sports model fits in with the "sound mind sound body" mantra that was likely the original intention of college sports. |

I thought the Batman films did a decent job of combining both drama, story, and action. Granted, there were flaws. A suave billionaire falling in love with Maggie Gyllenhaal? Yeah I'll believe that after my girlfriends Kate Upton and Eva Longoria serve me grapes by hand. |
| 3 days 52 min ago | Superman is not a goddamn |
Superman is not a goddamn crumpet loving, tea drinking, pale skinned Brit. He's a cornfed Murican and that's that. This is just as fake as having an American play Sherlock Holmes and this movie was as superficial as that film as well. Although I think my 8th grade self may have really enjoyed the no-plot, punch-em-up script which was as intelligent as "300". Maybe I'm just getting really tired of half of the big-budget Hollywood movies being based on superheros. I thought there were like 10,000 failed writers living in LA? Can't they think of something NEW for once? Oh well, the population is such that pretty much any movie will make movie if it's budget is managed correctly, dissuading innovation which may lead to disaster or success. Movies are taking after the Pirates... put out a "meh" product year after year if the sheeple are dumb enough to spend money on it, laugh all the way to the bank. Why take the risk and try to win if you're sure to make money just by re-producing the same films which were made poorly 10 years ago. |
| 3 days 53 min ago | Well that's disheartening. |
Well that's disheartening. My twelve year old nephew can write a story entirely made up of throwing people and things into other things. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's exactly the story he WOULD write. Miss Congeniality was deeper than this film. |
| 3 days 57 min ago | "American actors largely |
"American actors largely suck." I'd say most actors suck, but the good ones I can name are all American. Edward Norton, Nicholson, Brad Pitt, Di Caprio, etc. I can barely name any foreign actors (except the ones with nice bust lines, hello Selma). And oh gosh, who is that droopy-eyed Brit in all of those romantic comedies? He's set acting back decades. AND the Brits have to claim that dog who played Bridget Jones. |

The Michael Bay strategy: throw enough explosions and tits on screen and people won't notice you make generally shitty movies. Hollywood movies are generally butterfaces with 750cc implants. You get so stuck watching the fun stuff you forget it's missing all of the important stuff. |

1. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-22914431 "Creditors were asked to accept 10 cents on the dollar of what they are due. According to figures presented by Mr Orr, Detroit has some $11.5bn of unsecured debt." Well... he's trying. 4. What city doesn't have an airport, river, and railroads? The Canadian border... meh. Better to be a port city on the coasts or close to Mexico, I don't imagine Detroit particularly benefits (beyond a few Customs jobs) from some Canadian imports. 5. UM has a name that brings people to the state. In the same vein, that name also allows UM grads to work anywhere in the US or internationally pretty easily. If anything, UM opens doors for current Michiganders to more easily leave the state. MSU I'd imagine opens doors in Big Ten country, while the smaller schools probably do a decent job keeping students in the city. Compltely agree with downsizing... but that is easier said than done. Detroit just can't say to a Seven Mile neighborhood... "Guess what, no more services!" Even if certain areas are absolute drains on resources, I don't think the city government can abandon them and no other town will want to take a failing neighborhood. Hell, this is probably one of the few times that the use of ED would be completely justifiable. |
| 4 days 12 hours ago | Look at the murder rate in |
Look at the murder rate in Detroit. Look at the graduation rate of the city's schools. Look at the political atmosphere of corruption and nepotism. Look at the amount of abandoned properties in the city. Look at the obscene unemployment rates in the city. Look at the mockery made of Detroit on a national and international level. As for the auto industry, if you think that's sticking around... ha. How many plants have been built in Detroit in recent years vs. non-union dominated states like South Carolina or Alabama? At least Pittsburgh dropped steel altogether and focused on new industries. The only "new" industry I've seen in the news about Detroit is hipsters opening coffee shops, bars and urban farms. Pittsburgh may have had economic issues, but it never had the social collapse Detroit has had. I know some of you hold Detroit dear to your hearts, but look at ANY other city in the United States. You can't even compare how, honestly, shitty Detroit is compared to any other major city in the US. How the *&%^ are you going to convince someone to move to Detroit instead of Chicago, Pittsburgh, or Columbus right now? It'd take a 25-40% raise for me to even consider it. The population is only going to get older and smaller as people continue to flee not only the city, but the state. |

He was too soft on RR in my opinion and too tough on Carr, likely because one gave him access and was able to "tell his side of the story", while Carr had no responsibility to deal with some reporter. Look at the recruiting stats from Carr (granted there was a drop towards the end), to RR, then Hoke. HOLY MOLY MISTER. Thinking back to the RR days gives me high blood pressure. |
