I think that Seth is dinging…

I think that Seth is dinging Cade for incorrect reads on plays where it is very clear that there is no read being made.  So many times Cade is looking back at the RB when handing off when, if he was making a read, he would be looking at the end.  On the RPOs, a lot of the time the WRs are running half-hearted slants where it looks more like they're looking for an LB or Safety to block without really looking back at the QB.

I completely agree with you…

I completely agree with you on the Cade talk being ridiculous.

One correction, McCarthy did throw the ball once.   He rifled a short throw to Baldwin who dropped it.

Great post Alex.  One note,…

Great post Alex.  One note, one running back, two tight ends, and two wide receivers is 12 personnel.  For some reason, WRs aren't included in the personnel numbering and we're left to do the math to figure out how of them there are in a formation.

Really interested to see if UM's defense can remain disciplined enough to contain the Nebraska offense.  Hopefully Ross is healthy enough to play as this seems like a game where having his experience at LB may make a big difference.

Incredible work Seth... I've…

Incredible work Seth... I've been hitting F5 on my computer all morning and greatly appreciate the effort you put in.

With regards to your commentary on Cade not making the proper Zone Read/RPO reads, I'm not that confident that those plays have actual reads as opposed to just the appearance of a read.

On the zone read play you reviewed, I'm don't believe that there was a read at all.  If you watch Cade's head, he looks back at Haskins while handing it off.  He's not staring at a read and making a decision.

On the next play you discuss, the RPO to Henning, it doesn't look like Henning is actually running a route to me.  He runs towards the Wisconsin player lined up over him to the inside, never looking back at the QB, like he's tentatively going to block him.  When that player takes off downfield, he looks back outside for someone to block.

In a sane offense, these plays would both have reads and Cade's decision on both plays would've been incorrect.  However, based on how the players acted (and Harbaugh's history over the last few years) I'm not convinced that these plays were called with actual reads.

Definitely going to be looking for the offense and defense every snap videos next week to actually watch the game

I’m just going to park closer to Elbel and then follow the band down Hoover to the stadium.

Haha much appreciated.  I'm hopefully going into it with the proper (low) expectations and am looking to just survive the day.  Already have tickets and a hotel for Friday so we're committed.  I think that it's inevitable that I'm looking at a rather sizable contribution to the University via the concession stands.

After reading your and PeterKlima's posts, I'm now leaning towards skipping MDen and the Cube, parking somewhere near Elbel (Fingerle?), arriving around 9:45-10, and just going to watch the band warm up before heading into the stadium.

This is fantastic.  Thank you

Great. Thanks for the info. …

Great. Thanks for the info.  Considered the museum too but that may be a lot to squeeze in (and a lot of walking) before the noon game.  Thanks again.

Thanks for this.

Watching…

Thanks for this.

Watching this again, I had forgotten that they actually attempted to mix in a good amount of passing attempts the first few drives with absolutely no success (9 passes to 13 rushes).  Of those passes, Cade was 3-9 with completions of -4, 0, and 33 yards.

Early on they weren't setting the world on fire on the ground either, so I don't blame the coaching staff for sticking with the run game and once they finally found something that was working.

Either way, getting a comfortable win in a game that I saw as a toss-up to start the year is great.

Great write up and…

Great write up and definitely mirrors what I took from the game.  Seemed that our DL were absorbing contact from the Western OL and then trying to two gap instead of initiating the contact.  Hopefully this is a technique issue that can be addressed as the season progresses.

I agree with this.  Watching…

I agree with this.  Watching the highlights, there wasn't one pass where it didn't look like the ball had the adequate amount of zip on it.  I feel like a lot of critics are acting like Cade has a similar arm to Russell Bellomy simply because he doesn't have the cannon of Joe Milton.

Throwing my name in. Still…

Throwing my name in. Still haven’t taken my son to a game yet.

I think the Jack Nicklaus…

I think the Jack Nicklaus course you're talking about is American Dunes in Grand Haven.

"Yes, it’s okay to dismiss…

"Yes, it’s okay to dismiss people who have “issues” with the vaccines. Their issues have no basis in reality. It sucks that the wet whiny crazies have found a foothold in politics—though less of one than we’re making it out to be—but it doesn’t change the fact that if you aren’t willing to do something as simple as take a COVID vaccine to protect your teammates, you’re probably not much of a teammate, and we don’t want you anyways."

Protect your teammates from what?  I'm sorry that you have a differing opinion, Seth, but the data demonstrates that this is not lethal illness to kids in this age range (especially those kids who have strong cardiovascular systems).  Those players/coaches/staff who are at risk or who have concerns can get the vaccine to protect themselves and the ones they care about.

Implying that a player is selfish because he does not want to get the vaccine doesn't make much sense.  Can't the same argument be made for those, like yourself, who are telling others that they must get the vaccine so that your health is protected?

It may be because the IFR…

It may be because the IFR for 15-19 year olds is around .003% and the IFR for 20-24 year olds is around .008% and they made a judgment call that for them personally, the vaccine wasn’t worth the associated risks, both known and unknown?

Im not sure if those IFRs decrease when the overall physical condition of high level college athletes are taken into account.

Can’t believe he just hit…

Can’t believe he just hit the longest drive on 16 for the tourney. Koepka ripped his and Phil rolled his shot ten yards further

You’re either being…

You’re either being intentionally obtuse or don’t know what you’re talking about. They banned private entities from giving people water in line aka no polling near a voting station. Poll workers can still give out water or water can be left for those waiting in line to vote. Is free water a big deciding factor in many people’s minds when they’re deciding whether or not to go vote? You could always bring your own if you’re worried about dehydration while standing in a line in November?

Other than that, the law mandates early voting open on Sundays now, requiring those hours be at least 9-5, and codifying drop boxes.

Pretending that this law is intended to suppress votes (seeing a lot of people saying this suppression is directed at minorities?) is ridiculous on its face.

I remember Coach Propst from…

I remember Coach Propst from the MTV show Two a Days.  Apparently, he's been in trouble with various scandals for almost the entire time since that show aired.

Regardless, this seems like someone with inside knowledge saying out loud what most people already assume to be the case.

“The state’s favorable…

“The state’s favorable position as the climate continues to shift”... what the hell are you talking about?

If you think the climate is going to continuously get warmer due to human influence, then we’re going to see it be a couple of degrees warmer (still freezing cold winters and short as hell summers) while our water levels continue to rise, eroding our beaches and depreciating our property values.

Or, if you do carry those beliefs, you’re playing the long game and looking 1000 years out. In which case, respect.

Having lived in RO for 3…

Having lived in RO for 3 years and then Chicago (Lincoln Park, Gold Coast, and 1 year at Division and LaSalle, whatever you consider that) for 9 years, and West MI for the last 5 years, this is absolutely true. If I couldn’t work remote, there is a 0% chance I would work in Chicago.

Not to wade into the political aspect of it all and to keep the discussion a little more focused on football, looking at the states where they have decided against football in the B1G footprint in the Midwest and NE and comparing them with the southern states where they have decided to try and play, the mortality rate is almost exactly half in the southern states.

I've lived in Grand Haven for 4 years and, somehow, just had my first Pronto Pup last weekend.  It was delicious.

Watching the video, it didn…

Watching the video, it didn't appear like he was trying to return one of their helmets to me.  Looks to me like he walks up to them, waves his phone at the first officer's coms then the second officer's belt and gets pushed, stumbles backwards and falls.

He's a known local activist that approached the police after curfew. Portraying him as a white senior citizen just trying to return their helmet to them seems a little disingenuous.

And what you fail to mention regarding the officer's resignation from their voluntary Emergency Response Team positions is that prior to the mass resignation, their union said they would not pay for any of the ERT or SWAT members' legal defense costs for anything related to the protests.  That may have played a roll in the officers' decision.

I thought the game plan was…

I thought the game plan was fine against OSU given the makeup of our defense.  However, when talking about coaching, I also think we should take a look at how the players executed that game plan.

Metellus let WRs behind him multiple times and OSU took advantage of a couple of those mistakes for huge chunk plays.

McGrone getting tangled up with the slot receiver on third and very long and letting Dobbins turn a dump off pass to the middle of the field into a long first down conversion was brutal. His late hit on Fields later in the game to give OSU an automatic first down hurt as well.

Hudson had multiple miscues in addition to the offsides penalty.

On a huge third down in the red zone, Paye seemed to stop mid play and turn back towards the center as Dobbins ran right by him for a touchdown.

On more occasions than I could count, the D just wasn't lined up or were scrambling when the ball was snapped, leading to easy yards for OSU

Untying Dobbins shoes for another first down.

The large number of inexplicable mental errors coupled with not being able to get lined up pre-snap reflects poorly on the coaching staff.  While credit goes to the coaches for the game plan and getting more multiple on D throughout the year, the same can't be said for the repeated individual miscues of the players in big moments. Those miscues give the appearance of a poorly coached defensive unit.

Braylonfest without a doubt…

Braylonfest without a doubt.  I was a senior and my buddies and I had worked our way to the front row of the student section.  It was an absolutely insane in-game experience that would be impossible for me to replicate today.

Also, we had a Halloween party at my house that night, destroyed most of our couch's frames dancing on them, and kept the celebration rolling all night.

Great diary.  Puts words to a lot of similar feelings I've had regarding my Michigan football fandom over the last 10+ years. Thanks for posting.

The point being that my post…

The point being that my post contained data that most previous comparisons between UM and PSU do not. Also, I would like Michigan (the team that I am a fan of) to experience a turn around like PSU did. It’s obviously not likely.

I’m not sure if you’re being obtuse intentionally but I thought my post was pretty clear

No, I was referring to the team that beat #2 OSU and #6 Wisconsin, won the B1G Championship, and went to the Rose Bowl.  I apologize for the confusion.

You're welcome!

I thought this was worthwhile to share as it contained actual statistics and they were almost exactly the same to Michigan's through the same amount of games.

This wasn't a "Josh Gattis coached receivers for Joe Moorehead at Penn State who, in his first year installing a new offense, orchestrated a huge turnaround for Penn State mid-season so we should expect the same" post.
