On my way to the Stooges concert at Pine Knob with my brothers in law. From the radio in the car it was not clear if Pine Knob was blacked out or not. Eventually heard the concert was postponed and started working our way home. We were really low on gas and had to stop by my sisters and use the gas from her lawnmower to have enough to get home.
Emptied out the freezer and had a pretty good cookout by lantern light. The night was also stupid hot with no fans.
BTW. The postponed Stooges concert was perhaps the best concert I have ever been to (although I do not go to many concerts so small sample size applies).
Using OSU is a poor example. Ohio is not a strong hockey state with a large following. Michigan is somewhere between Ohio and Wisconsin/Minnesota in terms of the number of hockey fans.
Given the large number of women/girls who play hockey in Michigan there is a significant potential fan base present. IF you build a winning program, the fans will come (e.g., softball and basketball).
Have two kids waiting to hear. Wonder why UM strings out the notices. Other schools are able to give a specific day and time when early decisions will be announced.
The top Michigan high school men's XC runner in Michigan (Carter Solomon) committed to Notre Dame. I saw him run a 17:42 at regionals last weekend. He actually passed the golf cart that normally leads the runners.

From the radio it sounded like there was power north of Detroit so we decided to keep going just in case the concert was on. Made it almost to Auburn Hills by the time the radio announced that Pine Knob did not have power and the concert was postponed. Was very low on gas. Took surface streets to my sister's in Ferndale and used the gas from her lawnmower to get home.
Cleaned out the fridge and freezer and used the grill for the next two days. I remember the first night was ungodly hot without any fans.
BTW the rescheduled Stooges concert was one of best concerts I have ever been to.
Our school offers IB and AP. Our overachiever daughter starts high school next year. She choose AP over IB because she felt it gave her more options/variety in classes. She didn't think that the IB program would allow her time to take some of the electives she eventually wants to take.
Her not quite as motivated siblings never considered IB as an option. I guess we will find out in 3 1/2 years whether it was the correct choice.
Started following M Hockey during the Morrison era. Made few games at Yost but went to all of the games at the Joe. Had season tickets from 2002 until a couple years ago.
The Morrison teams were just top to bottom ridiculous. It felt like they scored more short handed goals than they allowed power play goals. They were loaded and while Morrison was the best player on the team the margin between him and the other forwards didn't appear that hudge. Heck: John Madden may be the best defensive player to ever play for Michigan.
Drawing comparisons to Red Wings players:
Comrie, Cammaleri, Hensick were more like Datsyuk. Stickhandling wizards who are everywhere and score and set up players.
Connor strikes me as a a forward version of Lidstrom in many ways. Always in the right spot offensively seemingly without effort. Where Lidstrom would somehow make what looked like the other team's dangerous possession disappear without heroic effort on his part. Connor has this way of turning what appear to non-threatening situations into goals.
We live in the Plymouth Canton school district and charter schools are popping up like weeds. They have definitely hurt the district.
I disagree with Natalie. The charter schools control the narrative in Lansing not the public schools. In the most recent budget many of the charter schools in our district received substantially higher increases in their per student funding than Plymouth Canton.
If it was truly about school district performance, there would be fewer charter schools in Plymouth Canton as Plymouth Canton is routinely one of the highest rated districts in the state. Or maybe it is about performance because most of the charter schools have scholar, or achievement or similar word in their names.
School funding is broken in Michigan. As a result of Headlee and Proposal A, rather than local control a districts funding is almost entirely determined in Lansing rather than locally. A local community has essentially no power to raise taxes to improve schools. Unfortunately, Lansing has shown a willingness to divert money from schools to support other causes rather than cut those areas or raise taxes (or forgo a tax cut).
Now that the kids are playing travel soccer and hockey saw the writing on the wall that would miss too many games and probably not be able to sell the tickets.
So far we have kept our season hockey tickets because it took us forever to get 4 seats together. With no NHL it has been easier to get rid of the tickets we can't use this year.
When we faced Akron in the NCAA a couple of years ago I asked a friend who is very active in club soccer. He explained that Akron and some other small schools effectively have more scholarships to offer than some of the larger schools.
He explained that soccer gives out a lot of partial scholarshipsbut as a non-revenue sport if a kid receives an academic scholarship that scholarship does not count against your teams scholarship allotment.
Where Akron has an advantage is that Akron is a school that allows out-of-state kids who reach a certain high school grade point to pay in-state tuition. If we assume that in-state tuition is 50% of out of state tuition (I don't know what it really is but I picked 50% to make the math easy), then if an out-of-state recruit qualifies for in-state tuition, Akron can award the kid a 100% tuition scholarship that only counts as a 50% scholarship for NCAA purposes.
Michigan can do the same, but unless the kid is a National Merit Scholar there is not much chance that there will be an academic scholarship.
Each Red Wings Season ticket holder is allowed to buy two tickets to the Winter Classic per season ticket. To do that, you also have to buy 1 GLI ticket per Winter Classic ticket.
If they screw over Leafs fans the same way, there won't be many GLI tickets available through the box office, but a ton available online.

How can Clare be the MVP over Palmisano? Dislike FYS as much as the next guy, but only reason State was in championship game and note blown out was Palmisano. He made over 40 saves each night.

OK, I kept a straight face as long as possible. This has fiasco written all over it.
But, watching the game, my thought was that this game could have been Illinois all over again.
Turn over at the 1 and then the other team drives the length of the field and scores. The difference is our offense this year was able to respond and the defense was able to keep fighting. The defense wasn't pretty. It was sort of like the portion of the Rocky movies where Rocky is getting clubbed but refuses to stay down. (Note: unlike Rocky II - IV, the defense never knocked IU out, more like Rocky I, just hung on until the bitter end and refused to be knocked out). Last year, in the Illinois game, it seemed like the wheels came off on both offense and defense after the stop on the 1.
From my friend's texts, I expected a horrific defensive performance. I was mildly surprised. I thought there were some positives (again keep in mind my base line expectation -- horrible).
With one exception, we kept the ball in front of us and were able to swarm and tackle. In other words, we didn't break (much). We weren't gashed for huge plays.
I think Chappel is a better passer than we thought. I will wait for UFR, but my impression was that lots of times we had decent coverage and Chappel put the ball in a pretty small window. Question is, what other passers in the B10 will be able to make that many passes that consistently. My thoughts are perhaps Cousins and Stanzi. Also, Pryor, but in part because I expect OSU's receivers to be able to get more open than IU's did.
Taking into consideration IU was using a short passing game, we got okay pressure.
Seemed like when we brought 4, there were more gaps in the defense.
While we still missed tackles, it seemed like we were tackling harder and attacking the ball carrier rather than letting the ball carrier run into (over ) us.
I think this defense has a chance to be slightly below average (rather than horrible), which may be good enough for most of the season.

At least he was honest about the money. They have a $105 million budget and a long list of capital needs for all of the sports. He characterized the impact of bringing in Nebraska and the need for divisions, etc. as negotiations. He indicated he viewed a couple of things as non-negotiable, Michigan v OSU as happening every year, Mich/MSU happening every year, and Mich/OSU to have the chance as being for conference championship.
UM/Bama game. Officially he had not comment other than the aforesaid willing to play other name schools every few years. From his tone, UM/Bama is clearly in the works.
Night games. Michigan has played at night 33 times. Always on the road. Always to a packed house and raucous crowd. Time for Michigan to do that to someone else. UM/Notre Dame 2011 will be a night game. (My opinion, judging from tone, there will be more night games in the future, maybe not every year, but there will be more.)
Rich Rod. Supports the coach. Basing on a number of wins is oversimplification. A little harder to parse then some other comments, but seems likely that RR is the coach next year
I think they have the best food out of the brewpubs in town, but I am not a fan of their beer. Others obviously disagree. Sacred Cow is a solid IPA. If you want something really special, look for Crooked Tree from Dark Horse or Short's Huma Lupa Licious. Last time I checked both were on tap at the Arena. (Note: the Arena's food is standard pub fare.)

Check the weather. Son's first game was the brutal Northwestern game where is was 37 degrees and raining. Took him 2 years to want to go back.
Our kids know that dad has two rules at sporting events:
1) Bathroom/food breaks only occur at breaks long enough to make it there and back.
2) We never leave early. (Although we did leave the Northwestern game early, even hot chocolate could not rejuvenate son that day).
They came out with one in the Fall called The Oracle, but it definitely fell in to the super rare category. Most stores only received a single case of it. When it was gone it was gone.
As for summer beers, I've been running Oberon and Crooked Tree from Dark Horse Brewery in the kegerator this summer.
When the Crooked Tree is gone, I will probably rotate in Huma Lupa Liscious.
So I ihave been there several times, but never during Spring Break. As everyone said, its basically the panhandle of Florida.
For really good food check out "Tin Top," that's what m-i=l calls it, it may actually be called the Tin Roof (I am not certain which is the correct name). It is a little off the beaten path and on one of bayous but (at least when we go) they have a killer happy hour with .25 oysters and discount drinks.
One of my favorite parts of Red Wings games is when the recognize the soldiers in attendance. As soon as they do, I try and be one of the first on my feet to give a standing ovation. Not a fan of country music, but in that context the "Proud to be an American" (don't know the correct title) song they play sends chills down my spine.
If I see a soldier at a restaurant, I try and pick up the tab or send drinks (if possible). Figure it is the least I can do.
As to the Pacific, I agree that it doesn't develop the characters as well as BOB, but it is doing a better job at showing the grim realities of war.
Just that sales were strong and they were prepared for a large number of orders from the hockey season ticket holders.
If there is a strong response from the football season ticket holders, an early sellout is possible.
I had this nagging worry that they were going to reject my ticket order as too large or that they hadn't thought out the possible ramifications of allowing season hockey ticket holders to order unlimited tickets.
Between the ticket office's reaction to my order and the phrasing in the season football ticket holders' letter that midfield seats will be issued on the basis of priority points, dare I say that the ticket office may have thought things through.
Still will be very interested to see how many seats the hockey season ticket holders take. I am guessing about 40,000 (4,000 season tickets taking 10 tickets a piece).
I was at the game. The cheer was not only at the end, but pretty much everytime he hit the ice except when he was booed everytime he hit the is.
There were also a few Crosby is a b!tch cheers, but they weren't as loud. The Pens fans were really upset about the cheers. Anyone have the center ice package? Does Crosby get booed everywhere else as well.
Season hockey ticket holders can buy unlimited tickets. After that football ticket holders and alumni associations go. Then the public tickets go on sale.
Assuming there are 4,000 season hockey tickets holders. If every ticket holder buys 10 that is 40,000 midfield seats. If you take out the student section and MSU's allotment, there is probably only room for around 50% of season football ticket holders (assuming there are 80,000 nonstudent season football ticket holders) to grab tix.
