Haylie was superb

Haylie Wagner pitched an awesome game last night, going toe to toe with Abbott.  Sure Abbott had more K's, but she also had more walks and pitched over 100 pitches.  Haylie had 1 walk, 2 K's but threw under 90 pitches, she was dominating Chicago and you could see they were very nervous they were going to lose.  Haylie was better, more cosistant with her pitches, she held them.  Just needed some offense to help her out. They should have won that game last night.

Me too!

Going to miss Haylie next year at Michigan. She had heart for the game, the most vocal for the game. She had energy, passion and represented the Maize and Blue with honor and class, she will be truly missed.

There's no replacing Wagner,

There's no replacing Wagner,  she is irreplacable.  She will be deeply missed this year, her energy, enthusiasm, heart for the game was amazing.  I will miss watching her play. Team 38 was a very special team and there will never be one like it.

Great game

Great pitching by Haylie Wagner, no runs allowed.  Too bad she doesn't get the change to start more games.

In 5 innings

Two more innings, things could have changed, they always seem to.

Wagner isn't getting a chance

Haylie isn't getting a chance to start a series, there is no reason she shouldn't be starting one.  Everyone seems to have forgotten what she has done the past 3 years, she is dominant.  There is no ACE as everyone keeps saying, Megan has had the opportunity to pitch to some really weak teams, hence the many strikeouts,  but the stronger ones Haylie has and has done great.  Striking everyone out is great, but not every pitcher is a strikeout pitcher.  Hasn't anyone noticed when Haylie does pitch, she is a ground ball pitcher, and there are way too many errors behind her, the defense seems to forget what to do when a simple ball comes to them, example 3 errors by Romero this past weekend. Simple outs and she couldn't handle them.  Haylie and Megan are two great pitchers, they pitch differently and get the job done, there is no ACE, stats mean nothing at this point. It's a Team.  The defense and offense just need to stay strong.

Wagner looked good

Haylie looked great today, only one ER, too many errors again behind her.  Seems like when she pitches, there are too many errors behind her. And she had the one hit game on Tuesday, and was perfect after the 1st inning, getting the next 15 batters out.

I don't think so

She is not going to ge the #1, yes striking out everyone is great, but then as you notice when a simple ball is hit, several errors are made, as with Romero with 3 this weekend, simple plays and she couldn't make them. There are strike out pitchers and there are ground out pitchers, both Wagner and Betsa compliment each other nicely.

Prior to the 7th inning, Iowa

Prior to the 7th inning, Iowa had sat down the last 14 Michigan batters.  The pitch Wagner through, was a good pitch she just turned on it and I do think first base could have had it.  Then a bobble at SS for the run to score, that shouldn't have happened either.  They aren't going to win them all and other teams are going to score. Just have to flush this one and focus on next weekend.

So, she gave up a HR. whats

So, she gave up a HR. whats your point? Who cares if she did, everyone does.

Very well deserved for both,

Very well deserved for both, but I always wondered why Haylie never made All American her freshman year? She had a stellar year, surpassing Jorday Taylor in wins in a season as a freshman.  Haylie totally deserves this honor and she will be an All American again next year.

Heartbreaking loss, but you

Heartbreaking loss, but you can't leave bases loaded 3 times and not capitalize.  Haylie pitched just as well as Waldrop, but we didn't help her out with any runs.  The flu that hit the team earlier this week, hit Haylie on Thursday night, and she was pitching game 3 with the flu, throwing up all game and with a fever.  She did a hell of a job out there, with the flu, the heat and humidity.  Lots of traveling this past week for them but next year it will all be at Michigans field.  I am so very proud of this team.

Really??? They are smarter

Really??? They are smarter and they are better! Try pitching in 105 degree weather. Besides the ASU field is so small homeruns are hit alot there and if you watched the game, the blues were horrible all weekend, strikes were balls all weekend! Give the pitchers a break.

That was a good pitch at the

That was a good pitch at the end, looked like it could have been fielded for an out, but didn't go our way.  Team effort to win and team effort to lose, no one to blame here.  Got to get the timely hits though, with runners on base.

Congratulations ladies once

Congratulations ladies once again! Very deserving, but I have to disagree that Betsa saved the day again.  The starting pitchers did their job in all of the opening games of the last 2 weeks. Wagner and Driesenga kept the team in the game against the first Minnesota, Purdue, Ilinois and even the Wisconsin loss on Friday.  We could have won all of those games easily, but when the team doesn't show up to hit, you are not going to win.  All of the pitchers are fantastic.  Lets just hope the team comes to hit next weekend, because one game loss and you are out.  Keep working hard ladies!

Haylie has had some fantastic

Haylie has had some fantastic shut out wins of top ranked teams,  especially in CA when they were out here. She is back to her form from freshman year.   She went 19-3 last year, but only due to the early and late injury.  This year she 20-2, but not getting as many games since we now have 3 pitchers.  Remember she was 19-0 to start.  And was able to help herself with batting also.   She was the go to pitcher early in the season, and now that Sara is back on her game, they now have two seasoned pitchers and with the addition of Betsa, 3 fantastic pitchers.  I think all will be good, everyone back on their game, pitching, hitting and defense.

Our pitching is the best.

Our pitching is the best. Anyone remember Wagner her freshman year? She was way under the radar due to the fact that Sara was a local pitcher with great talent.  But look what happened? Wagner was the pitcher that year and she was awesome.  She came out strong for the team, breaking records.  She is not under the radar any more.  Wagner is a phenomenal pitcher, after last year, she came on very strong this year.  So what, a couple of bad games??  Thye are human, it is going to happen.  You have to remember, they had finals this past week, had to travel to Purdue mid week and then turn right back around and go to Illinos.   The whole team looked aweful this weekend. 4 errors in one game.  All the pitchers were not on their game this weekend, can't have that many BB's, HBP, errors in the outfield.   And when you don't hit a last place team, how do you expect to win? Any team is a threat, even a last place team. Our girls swung at some terrible pitches this weekend to make it so easy on the Illinois pitchers.  Taking 2 out of 3 was good for the team, and being at home next weekend will be good for them.  I do believe that they will sweep at home next weekend and things  will be right back on track for the rest of the season.

Wagner kept them in the game,

Wagner kept them in the game, you have to have more than 3 hits to score runs. Yes, she gave up 8 hits but only 1 run, 7 K's, no walks and her ratio of pitches, 78 K's to 22 balls, impressive. A loss was bound to happen, but it keeps you grounded, humble and just that more hungry for the win, which is what they will do today and tomorrow.

Go Blue!

Wagner's ERA

Haylie Wagner has emerged this year after last years injuries, she came back healthy, in great shape and is doing her part to help the team.  Her ERA is the lowest in the Big 10, at 0.93, 16th in the nation, pretty impressive.  I think this team has what it takes to go the distance, they just need to be consistent in their hitting, and the other two pitchers need to do their part.

Driesenga's ERA

Its 3.19

Ragin Cajun Tournament

The weekend ended on a good note with the win over BC.  Everyone contributed to all the wins this past weekend, this Team 37 is going to some amazing things.  We have 3 very strong pitchers and if the hitting continues, we will be a team to contend with.  With Sierra Lawrence hitting not one but two grandslams in two games, she is another phenomenal hitter.  Haylie is back to pitching, and doing what she did her freshman year, helping the team win games.  She got 3 of the 4 wins this weekend, including the win against BC and she got to hit.  Everyone is a hero on this team, doing their part to get on base and score runs. Good luck next weekend ladies!

Good luck to the Michigan

Good luck to the Michigan softball team this weekend, hopefully they can move on to the WCWS, but they have been to Supers before.   Behind Haylie Wagner's pitching last year, they had to face the eventual WCWS champions, Alabama, in the super regionals away from home.  I do believe if they had been at home last year, they would have been able to beat Bama and move on, but the hitting wasn't there last year as this and the team had to rely on pitching alot last year.  Last year it seemed it was a given that Sara would be the go to pitcher, but things didn't work out that way, Haylie stepped into that role as a freshman and had a fantastic year, beating Michigan records and getting Freshman of the Year and Pitcher of the year, she did some amazing things.  With her being hurt this year and missing 19 + games, Sara had to step up into that position and she has done an amazing job also.  If Haylie had not been injured early on, this MIchigan team would have been unstoppable.  Even injured, Haylie had 18 wins and only 3 losses, but she still wasn't where she should have been, compared to last season.  With two healthy pitchers next year, this team will for sure win another Big 10 Championship and go very far again in playoffs.  This team does not rely on one or two players, as all the media seems to say, to win games.  This is a team, not a team of one or two, but a team of very dedicated girls that love the sport of softball.  Every girl on the team is vital to its success, and whether they are playing or cheering from the dugout, they are all important piece of this team.  Good luck girls, we believe in you! GO BLUE!

A 6th Big Ten Chamionship,

A 6th Big Ten Chamionship, 20-2 record is fantastic, I will take that any day.   It wasn't what we wanted today, but have to lose some to keep you humble.  When you are expected to win and don't, everyone gets the blame, starting with the pitcher. Haylie is no where near where she was last year at this time, she started the year missing games, and not able to do what she did last year, but thank goodness we have Haylie and Sara for 2 more years.  Michigan did not hit today either, as they are know to do, Nebraska is not Michigan friendly at all.  Forget this game, and move on the Regionals next weekend.  Everyone regroups and gets their "A" game on, which I know Michigan will do.

Why was it a tough call?

Lets not judge Sara and

Lets not judge Sara and Haylie so harshly.  Do you not remember all the games they have pitched to victories, and all the shut outs?  This is one series that was lost by Michigan softball and it wasn't all the pitchers fault.  Have to have timely hitting, how many were left on base the entire weekend and we didn't capitalize?  Remember pitching is what got us to the post season last year and they will do it again.  Haylie pitched fantastic last year and with her being out the first 19 games this year, she isn't where she was last year.  They both have what it takes to pitch this team into the post season, as long as the hitting continues.
