The frog isn’t racist.

The frog isn’t racist. I understand where your comment comes from, but the frog did Vaudeville and Ragtime, not Minstrelsy. Many contemporary cartoons did depict such racist caricatures. If Michigan J. Frog (the name of the character) was meant as another nod in that direction, I believe they would have been more explicit with it (which is the pattern they followed in all other actual instances of racism, which I don’t deny).

Why would I want to watch us

Why would I want to watch us lose in the first round to a MAC team again?

Little Jonnie is an angle,

Little Jonnie is an angle, and will be a Major Leaguer some day. Takes after his old man. Ya’ll are just jealous because your kids are failures. You must just not be very good parents. If coach would put Jonnie in more, you would all see. It’s just that he plays favorites with all the other little brats on the team.

No,

Given the context it was sincere.

Edit: Haha, looks like we both spoke too soon.

Mentioned along with MIT and UVA, good company to have. Saw this last night, thought it was pretty cool.

Your personal feelings for

Your personal feelings for the Fab Five are irrelevant. You have to pick your battles. What is gained from putting the banners back up? In my view, nothing. What are the negatives associated with putting them back up as they pertain to the credibility and perceived integrity of the school and athletic department? Well, if you need someone to answer that for you, I’m afraid we will never be in agreement.

"The rest of the Fab 5 shouldn't be penalized"

But neither should the University of Michigan.

Pekka Rinne is pretty damn

Pekka Rinne is pretty damn good. I still think Detroit can win, but it isn’t as if Nashville is just going to lie down and die. In 5 seems a bit too optimistic to me.

Don’t be insulting the south

Don’t be insulting the south now. Ya’ll don’t want to invite the wrath of Dixie. American by birth, Southern by the grace of God! But fo real, we’ll spit tobacco at you, or wear our pretentious bow ties to make you feel under dressed, or something.

Is there any evidence that

Is there any evidence that Ohio State isn’t embracing him though? And is he forcing his DC to run an unfamiliar system? Until those things happen, I don’t see the two as very similar.

Love me some college hockey.

In the words of the immortal Bart Scott, "can’t wait!"

ESPN, brought to you by the

ESPN, brought to you by the SEC.

This isn’t necessarily true.

This isn’t necessarily true. First of all, his 2012 class was better than ours. Recruiting for the 2013 class is nowhere near finished, so who knows where that’ll lead for the two programs. Second, the gap between recruiting will likely not be very large so as to guarantee one team being better than the other. Third, the relation between stars on the field and wins on the field is not as concrete as you make it seem.

I see people make comments

I see people make comments like this, and I have to wonder. Are you entirely sheltered from some of the BS that comes from our own fanbase, or do you just ignore it? Students and non students alike. Just accept the fact that, like all other fanbases, there are a bunch of idiots that fill our stadium every football Saturday. I’m not targeting you specifically (especially because you clarified that you were mostly talking about this blog), just the mindset. It, in itself, is extremely arrogant and foolish.

The Media would never do that

The Media would never do that for Michigan, right? Right?!? Seriously though, a lot of the criticisms of ND fans in this thread are terribly hypocritical.

Agree

I agree, I would like to see him stay as well. Unfortunately, he’ll likely get dissuaded by all the clever “lol, cooler pooper” and “O$U sux!” comments he gets.

He’s denying his father and

He’s denying his father and refusing his name this very second, I bet.

Sounds like coachspeak to me.

Sounds like coachspeak to me. This is the same kind of stuff that was coming out of Hoke midway through last season, and we know how that turned out. End of the day, Meyer already has the kind of QB he needs, and he has a heck of a lot of talent on that roster. His recruiting has been as good as you can expect, and I believe that they’ll be a solid team next season. Should make The Game very interesting.

“the people that do it are

“the people that do it are the same people who have never visited Detroit, have never been near it, and have never faced hardship like some Detroit citizens have.”

This makes sense. I can appreciate this, I guess. Thank you for taking my question seriously. It was something I was surprised by when I first came here, and I just wanted to educate myself. For the most part, the in state students I’ve met here are very passionate about the subject, for whatever that’s worth.

I suppose it’s the notion of

I suppose it’s the notion of it being your city that I don’t understand. That kind of loyalty to a city isn’t something I’ve seen elsewhere (other than by the actual inhabitants of the city). I typically try to avoid speaking negatively about it because I’ve noticed it upsets people. I’m just interested by the dynamic.

Legitimate question from

Legitimate question from someone not from Michigan or even the Midwest. What is with people from Michigan (about Detroit)? I hear people all the time make comments like “I believe in Detroit,” and they seem to get legitimately offended when people speak negatively about the city. And this is behavior being exhibited by people from all over Michigan, not confined to the Metro area. I’m not trying to upset anyone, I am genuinely curious because I’ve never seen anything like this in other areas.

Addition of Nebraska changed

Addition of Nebraska changed the scheduling around, I’d assume.

On an entirely unrelated note, you’re in Duluth? That must have been awful.

Poor Henri, the otter of ennui. He’s just as upset over this news as you are. Not to mention his battles with chronic depression. All he needs is some love, and here you are professing your hate for him. That’s low, Brian.

That’s because Brandstatter was doing his absolute best to crowd Hoke out of the frame.

Outside zone read doesn’t

Outside zone read doesn’t work so well because the AI dictates your first couple steps, making it difficult to take advantage of cutback lanes. Plus, it’s a play you have to set up first. Inside zone read, however, works perfectly. It’s just unfortunate that most playbooks don’t carry the appropriate formations for it. Usually I use Michigan, but with Oregon’s playbook. Plus, Oregon’s playbook has a heck of a lot more constraint options in case the read option isn’t working out.

What’s so lulwut worthy about

What’s so lulwut worthy about a game involving Cuba being on a Spanish language channel?

No.

No I do not know. I do not know at all, and you should refrain from inquiring further.

Whaaa?

Nasty is... good? Thought I was too young for this, but get off my lawn.

Why do you say this?

"Their talent level is going to take a major hit in the next three years."

I'm not sure this will necessarily be the case. I’m interested to know why you think this is so certain.

No hockey bear?

Blasphemy! Someone needs to rectify this trespass before he angrily smites us with his intergalactic hockey stick.

All this is well and good.

And I agree to an extent, but there is a legitimate point to be made about how the situation of the athletic department at VCU isn’t analogous to the Michigan athletic department. I don’t think the only alternatives are sneakily being charged $1000, or have an AD consistently testing the limits of ticket elasticity.

I think that was just wishful thinking

You know, because getting the chance to hear that name over the loudspeakers at the Big House would more than substantiate the price of season tickets.
