|4 days 16 hours ago||You can definitely see how||
You can definitely see how people think Brian comes off as a spoiled child at times.
I wasn't upset about the calls during the game - the PI on HIll was legit, esp. upon replay.
the spot was always going to be ruled in favor of the call on the field and that's always a judgement call.
the holding/lack of holding and a couple no calls on PI and especially the spots consistently going toward OSU and against M provides a legit hypothesis that should be vetted with a complete study of the reffing in this game.
If Brian did this (not a chance, IMO) he would likely get one of the top trafficed posts on the site. If he does it and finds a pattern of bias one way or the other, that's pretty big news. If he does is and finds no clear pattern, it puts the debate to rest. if he does it and basically finds (as I would expect) no evidence one way or the other (plausible deniability, AKA ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) then that also puts it to bed, IMO b/c that's just a game called the way all games are called when there is a complaint against the refs (see: any PSU loss).
Quantitatively speaking, If greater than 85% of the spots are judged in OSUs favor AND/or 85+% of the holding calls and no calls and/or 85+% of the PI calls and no calls are in PSUs favor, I'd say that's evidence of clear malice from the officials.
60-85% would be a plausible deniabilty --> this is what I'd expect on the road in Cbus.
less than 60% is standard, close to a 50-50 called game.
I think it's a slam dunk for the blog to do this, but Brian's too much of a baby/coward to do it.

88% is the highest recorded QB Chart grade for a single game, no? THat would be, uh, encouraging.
Also re: Coaching. It matters. I submit, in opposition, the following evidence to the court:
Penn St and James Franklin at 7-2, # 10 in the country. /s (i think?)
|3 weeks 4 days ago||see, I don't think this is||
see, I don't think this is the best way to use him. You want the ball in his hands ASAP, at the snap - not 15-40 yeards downfield. and that's what they've been doing with him.
People keep expecting to see some kind of unused counter, but I don't think that's how Harbaugh operates the offense- that strategy would be more like Carr teams... run the same bland shit vs Houston/Rice/EMU and save the "surprise" (bootlegs) for the big games. Harbuagh is running a ton of stuff, reverses, jet sweeps, AND running the counter plays later (throw back to Speight, Full back gives off jet sweep motion). He wants to show everything to the opposition (all of them, not jsut OSU, MSU, etc) has to prepare for everything. So the opposition can't just gameplan around one thing, them M pulls out the counter for a big game. That creates what Carr teams had: slogs for 90% of the plays, then a screen or bootleg for 20-40 yards that flips field position/gets into FG range or the RZ to set up a TD. This year it's a consistent march for 3-4 yards WITH bigger plays of 15-25 yards. Teams can stop neither the mainstream stuff (b/c they have to have significant focus on the counter) NOR the bigger counter plays.
I think on a year to year basis he changes things up. Last year was a lot of FB dives, this year not so much. Last year (IIRC?) more pulls and counters to power, this year not quite as much.

The schedule strength stuff just doesn't matter in the long run. They have to win @ Iowa (meh, but it's primetime on the road so if they win by 2+ scores, lots of people will see a cofortable win), and if they win there, @OSU and the BTT game, they are assured a 2 seed, and likely push Alabama for the top seed.

I just want to point out that the MSU D has 5 SRs + McDowell. Half the D leaves next year.
Their Offese has 6 SRs + the FB and 2nd TE are SRs. More than half the O leaves next year. All according to the personnel diagrams Seth provides.
That team has 13 SRs who have been in EL for 4-5 years now and they are all garbage. no one behind them can seem to break thru either.

what's amazing to me is how many SRs State has - on offense, they lose 3 OLs, 2 WRs, FB, 2 TEs. They have some talent returning at WR andRB of course, but the QB situations looks like a disaster as well.
I don't know if McDowell is leaning toward leaving, but is the defense any different?

each of the last couple weeks I've seen McDowell go down for MSU with what looks like a shoulder thing (like McCray perhaps). Then he comes back in a series or two later. FWIW
