- 2012, 64,000, no major issues. Little rust from the door hinge, wear & tear nicks, I wax it yearly-ish, detail it myself 2-3 times a year.
- KBB says $9-11k value but who knows what they will be worth in reality, especially after the fix changes the HP/mileage
- we like the car. good for a 50 mile commute (RT) for my wife, she loves it; we planned on handing it down to my daighter in 6-7 (!!!) years. gets 35-45mpg city-hwy
- we owe about $6900 on it.
- We have till mid 2018 to take either a flat $5800 cash + FREE fix (TBD) OR sell back the car for $20,100

We've been looking at this too- SUV or minivan? We have 4 in the family and they have sports, etc. The Escape we have now is nice, but already cramped with all of us in the car (kids are 10 & 7). Looking for a bigger SUV with maybe a 3rd row, but have read about the idea that if you are looking for a 3rd row, just go with a minivan.
Personally, I don't see the big savings in the minivan, mileage isn't *that* much better, cost isn't (unless you get a Dodge Caravan, but LOL whose gonna do that). I guess it's the convienience and versatility at comparibale prices points that favor the minvan over the SUV?

Your best bet is a civic. Hands down the best decision economically. I personally can't stand riding in them however. In general: 1) test drive a lot of models, 2) find 2-3 you really like, 3) go to the web and find rankings from usnews or kbb to see which have the best resale and mpg values and whatever else you care about. 4) never lease(unless you have unique circumstances) or buy brand new(unless you have close to 100% cash)

that's what I'm thinking, tho the more miles the car has, the less we get back. I'd guess we'd get 18k in June 2018, say.
ED: looks like I'm about right. 85,000 miles gets us $19,000 or $5,600 +free fix

OK I have a good one. So we have one of the VW Deisiels from Deiselgate (TM). Here are the details:
Right now I'm delaying the decision as long as possible to see what the fix is, and how the KBB value settles. Leaning toward (heavily) selling back and turning that $20k into a 2016-2018 vehicle. TIA for the input.

I've heard Holtz make good points before - I get the sense that he's being intentionally obtuse at times and knows how to get attention. Plus, he was a legit great coach so I give him the benefit of the doubt.

Eh you're misunderstanding the nature of the force I think. There are many force sensitives (Leia, Han perhaps, maz, the blind guy in rogue) who don't get any formal training but can feel the will of the force and perhaps use its influence a bit whether the realize it (maz) or not (Han). Again, Rey's backstory explains her ability to pick up combat easily (and rens injury and limited training and emotional imbalance help expliain her victory). The mind probe awakened her force sensitivity much more rapidly than others and the will of the force is what most dont account for either. Rey picked up very specific powers that she could excel at quickly due to her unique background and unique and sudden awakening to the force, again not even to mention the will of the force itself.

I agree about the last part- Vader is supposed to be the most powerful, cruel and ruthless enforcer of evil ever- among the most powerful Sith Lords in history (and in and hands on way- unlike the emperor ) but you really don't see much of HOW he got that reputation from the original trilogy-would really add to the depth of the character to see that, but it has to be done right. Remember he was the one hunting for the rebels and the stolen plans at the start of ep4

The backstory is that she's been abandoned to fend for herself all alone as a scavenger of starships. She's clearly knowledgable about the systems and how they operate. She probably worked on the falcon for unkar plot on jakku off and on for years. She knows how to repair almost anything after scavenging parts from almost any starship or speeder over the last 10 years of her life

Back in 2006 when my 1st was born, I bought one full semester of MIs college trust. I also have a few thousand saved in a 529. Unfortunately that all adds up to almost one semester out of state at UM and I have 2 kids. 6-7 years out for the oldest, but the market would have to grow by 30% per year to pay for it all.
