No politics, dude.

1 year 17 weeks ago Also this postgame Izzo quote from Wojo's column

"Look, nobody picked us to do anything, so there's no pressure."

What?  There are no goals or aspirations of personal excellence unless they're picked to do something? Just... what?  Tell that to the RCMB posters whose heads are in a thousand bloody pieces.

I've heard John U. Bacon's speech in his "Bo's Lasting Lessons" tour, in which he says that Izzo is cut from the same mold as Bo. I really would like to believe that, imitation being the sincerest form of flattery. I keep looking and listening for it, but I just don't see it. I've lost a lot of respect for Izzo because I think he doesn't handle losing well.

1 year 17 weeks ago Agreed. U2 played at Spartan

Agreed. U2 played at Spartan Stadium last summer after Michigan said no because the Regents wouldn't allow alcohol sales in Michigan Stadium. There's no way the NHL would put on an alcohol-free game, so they must be paying a premium for it.

1 year 17 weeks ago All in

for the posbang! Go Blue, great win!

1 year 18 weeks ago I can't believe this doesn't have its own thread yet

Since I can't start one. But does a real Michigan man do this?

1 year 18 weeks ago Wrong.

Brandon was never going to offer either Harbaugh or Miles. At the time, LSU was under investigation by the NCAA for Miles' recruitment of a kid out of Sacramento, for which the NCAA found major violations last summer that cost LSU 2 scholarships and a year of probation. With Michigan being on probation, Brandon wasn't touching Miles with a 1,200 mile pole.

Brandon did his due diligence on Harbaugh too and found baggage too big to bring to Michigan. So he never offered Harbaugh either. Harbaugh made it clear that the NFL was his goal, and the 49ers obliged.

Brandon made only one offer, to our current coach. Hoke wasn't #3, he was #1.

1 year 18 weeks ago It's more than etiquette, it's about NCAA regs too.

You would be wise to read and learn about the NCAA's definition of "booster" and "representative of the University of Michigan" in the Athletic Department's compliance page on the mgoblue website. If you give any money to the athletic department, you're a booster. You can't contact recruits or their families (email, phone, etc.) beyond saying hi.  Here's the link:

http://www.mgoblue.com/compliance/mich-compliance-whoisabooster.html

1 year 18 weeks ago Bull. He threw Michigan under the bus.

Bull. He threw Michigan under the bus to boost his credibility with his new employer and its alumni and donors, and he did it in a public forum. Sorry, that's not what I would expect from a "Michigan man". He also wouldn't have done it if Bo were still alive, because he knew damn well that Bo would have been on the next plane to Palo Alto to kick his ass. Jamie Morris told Harbaugh to "lose my phone number."

And you're right, the story was almost ignored nationally ... almost. It was not ignored in Ann Arbor or the Detroit newspapers. Hart may have revived the story, but that wasn't the first time that anyone at Michigan had heard of it.

1 year 18 weeks ago Save your prediction

Harbaugh is a helluva coach, no doubt, but he has a closet full of skeletons that Michigan wants no part of. And if Hoke is here for 10 years or longer, Jim will be in his late 50s, early 60s by then.  Presumably, he'll continue to be successful at the 49ers and will be making the kind of money Michigan could or would never pay him.

1 year 22 weeks ago Stop armchair doctors

Restless legs syndrome is not just an expression, it's a real neurological condition that causes an uncontrollable need to move the legs to calm sensations of creeping, tingling or pain. How completely irresponsible for anyone here to speculate that Coach suffers from what can be a debilitating medical condition.

He was bouncing his legs, which lots of people do. His hands were in his lap, so his arms were bouncing too.

Quit the unqualified, armchair diagnoses. It is destructive.

1 year 22 weeks ago There is a season

Time and place. Nothing wrong with visiting where you've been but not at the Bust. The Bust is for celebrating the seniors on the team and to give them their M rings, which Desmond should know. Many of those seniors were brought to Michigan by Rodriguez, and for that, we should be grateful.

Just because 21 had a platform doesn't mean it was appropriate to use it. This wasn't the time or the place.

1 year 23 weeks ago Hoke = classy

Headline redundant.

1 year 24 weeks ago No luck on that play

Hemingway was the intended receiver.  Koger saw something in the coverage and changed his route.

1 year 24 weeks ago MA, NTSH

double post

1 year 24 weeks ago You mean Herbie the Buckeye?

Herbstreit is a Buckeye, and also an ESPN colleague of Meyer. Of course he's going to hype Meyer.  Funny how he broke the Miles to Michigan story in 2007, but uttered nary a peep about Meyer to OSU.

I think Meyer's immediate success will depend on whether the NCAA has any credibility left whatsoever. IME, it has none since it took the failure to monitor off the table.  If the NCAA has any cojones and spanks OSU for its casual, I-dare-you-NCAA attitude, which it should, then Meyer's recruiting might be handicapped for a couple of years. Time will tell.

1 year 24 weeks ago You don't remember it

but Martin lined up several times on the end of the line and drop into coverage. I noticed it on OSU's last two drives in the 4th.

1 year 24 weeks ago Cupboard bare? Cupboard emptied.

I hate falling back into this argument, but if you read Three and Out, you should understand that Lloyd didn't just leave a bare cupboard, he helped empty the cupboard. He told Ryan Mallett to leave, he told Justin Boren to leave, he told all of his players after Rich was hired that he would sign transfer papers for anyone who asked.

Lloyd never supported Rich, either publically or privately. He let players come to his office and vent about Rich. Unlike Bump Elliott, who told his players to quit whining and not to come to him with their complaints when Bo was hired.  When asked in interviews, Lloyd never said "I support Rich Rodriguez", he said "I support the program".  That was not true anyway. He did nothing to quiet the dissent. Thank goodness Brandon made him "retire" when he was helping another DI school find a head football coach while on Michigan's payroll.

So when Rich said the talent wasn't what he expected, he was right. He lost at least two offensive starters who would have made a huge difference in 2008.

1 year 25 weeks ago Wasted energy

Not the OP's point, but what this thread has devolved into is nothing but wasted energy arguing over the same points that have been hashed and rehashed ad nauseam.  I wanted Rich Rodriguez to succeed, but the fact is, he didn't, at least not enough to keep his job. He did leave behind a bunch of great kids, some who he recruited and a few that Carr did who didn't bolt after Carr retired. To his credit, Rod told every player to a man to stay and play for Michigan.

Regardless of who is to blame for all the BS that RR had to deal with, and there's plenty to go around, he didn't win enough games in a short enough period of time to persuade the athletic director that keeping him would be in the best interest of Michigan football.

We now have a head coach who loves Michigan in his soul, not because he took a job, but because he knows how special Michigan is.  So let's leave the Rodriguez era to Michigan football history and look forward with hope that the Brady Hoke era will rival that of the Schembechler era in success and duration.

1 year 25 weeks ago There it is!

Aahhhhh. That's what this feels like. I'd almost forgotten. Congratulations to Team 132 and their senior leaders for a great victory at home and thank you for restoring the natural order.

1 year 25 weeks ago Vote for Kovacs

Don't mean to threadjack, but since I got stripped of 1000 points, can't post myself. Jordan Kovacs is a semi-finalist for the Burlsworth Trophy, awarded to the most outstanding player who started his career as a walk-on. You can vote once a day from the same computer.

1 year 26 weeks ago Too much red two years ago

The amount of red in the stadium two years ago and those -uckeye fans doing their cheer in our House was a disgrace. We cannot have a repeat of that scene. But Nebraska didn't have a showing anything like that. Ohio will have a lot of fans there, but we do have to try to keep them out. The most disappointing thing to me was seeing red in the student section.

1 year 26 weeks ago Denard was comfortable

Denard was comfortable because he got into a rhythm that wasn't interrupted halfway into the first quarter.

1 year 27 weeks ago You missed the point

No one is gritting their teeth through an 8-2 season. The teeth gritting was disappointment at RR's firing and RR's opponents getting their way, but recognizing that the important thing for the team was not to let that cloud our support for Michigan's coach. We supported RR because he was Michigan's coach, not the other way around. His detractors couldn't bring themselves to do that even at 5-0. They enjoyed the wins, but could never give credit or support to the coach.

1 year 27 weeks ago Not just a different email address

You have to vote from a different computer each time, too.

Because Gary Schultz was a vice-president of finance and business with oversight of the university police. I can't be certain, but that usually means some sort of audit responsibility, make sure the police department is operating properly, reporting its operations properly and accounting for its budget. Schultz wasn't the director/chief of police and had no day-to-day law enforcement responsibilities.
