I may be your female doppleganger. Aero grad ('00); private pilot (somewhat lapsed); got a classmate at JSC with a way cooler job than mine; did the causeway thing for STS-133 in February. Hope I'm not screwing up the space/time continuum or anything. |

but this one's too easy to pass up: Given the way his season went, it seems possible that speaking directly to Tate himself might not be much more effective than talking to the aforementioned brick wall. |

solely to give you props for one of the more obscure WW references I've seen in quite some time. |

that this scene wins the thread, and that's saying something. |

that's horrifying. The Big Chill jersey fits comfortably into the "so bizarre it's kind of awesome" category for me -- this, on the other hand, will haunt my nightmares. |
| 2 years 28 weeks ago | It's on Shaky-Cam, |
but it's on YouTube. Enjoy: |

Bartlet: "You didn't say Michigan sucks?" McGarry: "No." Bartlet: "I thought you said Michigan sucks." McGarry: "We're standing pretty close to a jet engine, so it might've sounded like I said Notre Dame is going to get the ass-kicking they so richly deserve." |

except the Yukon Cornelius comparison contains far more logic and less bewildering depravity than the average Simmons mailbag-closer. |

That was supposed to be a reply to to the Easterbrook comment downthread, but my browser's being pissy and I fail at reloading the page properly. I'll go upvote my fellow Easterbrook mockers in an attempt to make up for it. (End threadjack) |

Easterbrook was a target here. I now love this site even more. The guy makes a few decent points about football, or at least he used to -- I wouldn't know about the last seven years, since I swore I'd never give him another click after his pathetic and disrespectful "I told you so" screed three days after the shuttle Columbia disaster. Rant about football without knowledge if you must (I do that all the time); don't rant without knowledge when people are dead. |

especially since pretty much any contact on Denard freaks me right the hell out, regardless of circumstance. That said, the unbridled delight in that photo is a thing of beauty. My wish is for our entire team to look and feel like that every game. |
| 2 years 34 weeks ago | Is this the thread |
where I confess that I grew up a de facto Spartan because of my parents and didn't realize until high school that A) MSU would be a poor choice for aerospace engineering, B) MSU would be an equally poor choice if I wanted to march in the Rose Parade with a Big Ten band, and C) football is actually pretty damn cool? Because ... yeah. Attending the school did make me a fan (as well as force my father to stop cursing anything maize and blue), but it's far from the only path. |

just watched that clip and asked, "Again?" Proud parental moment. |

that can slow Denard down is YouTube's buffering. I suppose that's mostly my fault for being too impatient for awesomeness to wait for the little red line to finish creeping across the screen. |

MUPPETS. |

Between this and the various cloned-duck permutations, I have laughed way more than I should tonight, considering my throat is a bit sandpapery at the moment. Thanks to both you and Brian for making my day of illness suck a bit less. |
| 2 years 37 weeks ago | Fair enough on your second point |
and I don't adore the holiday weekend concept either, but I'm willing to bet we can find 110,000+ people who are willing, maybe even eager, to escape their families and dried-out leftover turkey in order to attend that game. Students who don't go -- and I think that'll be more due to the logistics of getting back early than because of fairweather fandom -- can sell their tickets at a price that'll buy lots of beer at VC. Just as long as they're careful not to sell to any Buckeyes attempting to infiltrate the student section. |
| 2 years 38 weeks ago | Correct on all counts |
I only get near the cool stuff when I go to other bases. At least Springfield's got F-16s for a little while longer -- dunno if they'll lose them when they get their UAVs/RPAs/whatever the hell we're calling them these days. One thing I will say for the Dayton area: they take aviation seriously. An unfortunate GA pilot crashed on short final at Wright Brothers last year, and the paper tried to scare up a "OMG airplanes are deathtraps!!" story with one cranky resident who was afraid a plane would fall on his/her house. The unanimous reaction in the article's comments was "Meh, the airport was here first." And the community support of the Doolittle Raiders reunion this spring was incredible. And I'm drifting further off-topic, so um -- Dhani plays down the road from here (not to mention Hall and Trent). So we've got that going for us, which is nice, albeit not nice enough to offset actually being in Ohio. |
| 2 years 38 weeks ago | Wright-Patt here |
Former F-16 SPO engineer (the colonel made us call ourselves "Team Viper") -- nice to see another AFMCer. If you can avoid a rotation here, I'd recommend it; my chief engineer once proudly dragged me into his office to show off his brand-new Appalachian State sign. Lots of "Buckeyes" who actually went to other Ohio schools. What's the OSU version of a Walmart Wolverine? |
| 2 years 38 weeks ago | They're called "Vipers" |
if you've ever flown one or worked on one. Same situation as the A-10 Thunderbolt/Warthog, as shown above. I can't believe what finally motivated me to create an account here was an aircraft comment. |
