No, he really didn't make an impact beyond his stats. It's not as if he moved Devin out of the pocket repeatedly into sacks by teammates. Holding the likely future number one overall pick to no sacks is impressive - especially because Michigan threw the ball plenty. Lewan had the better day. Clowney had one great play - but Lewan had nothing to do with that. |

QB competitions don't have to be a harbinger of bad things, but when Andrew Maxwell is one of the ones competing, it most certainly is. |

Screw this guy. Selling a kid's signature and of course Morris can get compensated for in no way for that signature. |
| 4 days 4 hours ago | I think that may be Borges |
I think that may be Borges talking up a kid who is legitimately competing, but should get passed if Jack Miller and Ben Braden come along like I believe they can and will. Also may be rewarding a hard worker who does things right and competes the way the like, hoping others catch on. In the same breath he talks about Braden being as talented as anyone they have - which would assumedly include Taylor Lewan. I'm not saying he'll be a top 5 draft pick, but earning that kinda hype usually translates to at least a starting spot sometime soon. I think the line will be just fine. |

Yea but he was never coming to Michigan. Said he wanted to be "different" from every other Cass Tech kid who has come here. If he wants to stay close to home and be different, let's face it OSU and ND are his two top choices. Meyer will get his share of top kids, but Hoke will (already is) too. |

Yea, why should Michigan and Ohio State play twice. Not like the schools hate each other and both will be top teams in the conference this season. Unreal. |
| 1 week 3 days ago | Lorenz has repeatedly |
Lorenz has repeatedly reported that the staff wasn't thrilled when they discovered the significant gap between reported and actual height. Also apparently was measured at 5'10 at a recent camp, which is way too short to play SAM. I liked him as a MIKE, but this staff reportedly doesn't want to move Ferns to the strongside, even though he's got the size to do it. They want big linebackers all around. |

Love this kids tape and really wanted him in this class but apparently this staff pulled back in favor or Winovich because of height. Not normally one to say "the staff wanted someone else," but in this case the coaches kept trying to delay his visit apparently. Hope they hit with Winovich, but wish this kid woulda had a spot. |

Based on the 247 article with quotes from him, he's looking for a visit where everything is genuine and they don't put on a show for him - sounds perfect for this staff's style of recruiting. |

| 3 weeks 1 day ago | Winovich is the higher-rated |
Winovich is the higher-rated player, most would argue he has the higher ceiling (in addition to 3 inches on Watson). Watson has been looking to set up his latest visit for a while, there's some talk that Michigan slow played him a little to get one last crack at Winovich, who will have the time to take the spot before Watson. Depsite the size difference, I personally prefer Watson, but can understand why he doesn't fit great at SAM. Then again, I believe Ferns could play SAM, but apparently the coaches want big linebackers at all spots - allegedly they tweaked model for an ideal linebacking corps after playing Bama. |
| 3 weeks 1 day ago | Because there's a lot of |
Because there's a lot of elite talent in other areas this year where Michigan has begun to make inroads. They've clearly been focusing on Florida, New Jersey and Virginia (Utah I suppose as well) - keep in mind they just pulled the number 1 RB in the country from the east coast. Of course Ohio is important, but Hoke has also talked about recruiting well within a 5 hour drive in every possible direction, and that's why you see states like Illinois and Pennsylvania being focused on as well. |

| 3 weeks 2 days ago | Doesn't making the CB worry |
Doesn't making the CB worry about the corner route over his head defeat the purpose of this? From my perspective, running this defense means you want the ability to be aggressive in the defensive backfield, but also have a relatively simple read for your corners to help them be able to cover deep. As Marlin describes it, the tight end read means the corner should then snap his head to the outside receiver and cover him pretty aggressively. If he tries to cover the corner route and the hitch, he covers neither. (I realize this is the point of the smash concept). However, the safety knows based on his read that the tight end is his, corner route or not. Make the QB take the time and throw the difficult corner route over a safety. I may be confusing myself though, as Marlin uses cover-4 and quarters interchangeably, but I'm choosing to see this as a combo cover-2 and quarters coverage. |
| 3 weeks 2 days ago | I'm a little confused on your |
I'm a little confused on your discussion about beating this coverage with a smash route (or any high low combination). If the inside receiver releases vertical, the corner will virtually man-up on the outside receiver in quarters coverage, no? You say the corner's read will take him to Cover 4, but Marlin's description says otherwise. "If #2 goes vertical instead of to the flat, the safety takes #2 and the corner stays on #1 playing quarters cov." In your diagrammed play, the safety doesn't have a fun cover on that tight end (although hopefully he'll get a a chip from the SAM), but the corner read receiver 2, saw that he went vertical, and will likely not have too much depth already so he can adequately cover the outside receiver. |
