Also watch Hooligans, the Untold Story. There are several clips on Youtube and we watched it in the German Soccer class taught by Kalli. It's about the 2006 World Cup in Germany and efforts to control hooliganism by the English and Germans.

1 year 7 weeks ago Great name, I took two

Great name, I took two classes with Markovits and did research for him. Brilliant man.

Congrats to my fellow graduates. Sanjay Gupta killed it, such a great speech.

1 year 12 weeks ago You sir, made my day. Most

You sir, made my day. Most jokes were about older women and a friend of mine we nicknamed Bobcat, but this tops them all.

1 year 12 weeks ago Keep it up Pat. The videos

Keep it up Pat. The videos are great, especially this one. Everyone I know is obsessed with this song.

1 year 13 weeks ago My girlfriend and I  did the

My girlfriend and I  did the same thing and stayed at the State St Bdubs an extra hour. It was super calm in there and you wouldn't even know there was a storm outside besides the people coming in from the storm soaking wet.

1 year 13 weeks ago Haha that's what I was

Haha that's what I was thinking last night as I watched the flood overtake my inbox. There were some funny responses but of course there were also annoying people like scumbag Steve.

1 year 14 weeks ago From my point of view, the

From my point of view, the Yost flag was menacing. It looked like he was starring down Notre Dame during pregame. Great job Children of Yost!

Also, great to see Brady Hoke at the game last night. I really like all the support this year from the other teams rooting on their fellow student-athletes.

1 year 14 weeks ago It has to do with him being

It has to do with him being from the Northeast. Smotrycz was given the nickname Lobstrycz because of this and that is why they wear the lobster costumes.

Touche jmblue, that should be the plan.

1 year 14 weeks ago I completely agree with

I completely agree with Smotrycz's role in the offense. He is frustrating to watch when he tries to create plays with the ball. Typically, he would end up turning the ball over, irritating most of us here I can only assume. The last couple of games, he had made strides to make plays without the ball and he has been a great asset to the offense.

That being said, I have to comment on the lobsters. Now, I know they were the idea of an alumnus who contacted the Maize Rage president, but the color red does not belong in the student section. Clever costumes such as the teletubby with the winged helmet work, because it is yellow and Michigan themed. I have stood next to the lobsters during games and some of them are the most obnoxious people I have ever met. I'm sorry if you are one of them, but if you are going to be annoying, direct it to the other team. A friend of mine who graduated last year was extremely obnoxious at games, but directed it toward opponents and Teddy V. I apologize for my rant, MGoCommunity.

1 year 15 weeks ago Great video, I'm glad you

Great video, I'm glad you included the 300 wanna-be with the gold helmet behind the scorer's table.

1 year 15 weeks ago With how competitive the

With how competitive the Central Division has been this year, I personally would prefer to have all hands on deck this time of year. Considering we just set the record for longest home winning streak, I'd like to lock up home ice advantage for the playoffs.

1 year 15 weeks ago I can see a Kork

I can see a Kork Coupons-esque thread coming from this kid.

1 year 16 weeks ago The Devils know about

The Devils know about whatever issues he has been having this season, so I think they may want him to stay and mature for another year. Red has worked with him well this year. He also has had a few instances that he needs to work on (see Northern's second goal of Saturday). I think he's going to stay. JMFJ was much further along at this point in his career at Michigan. Also, the players almost always talk with Red before heading out. Usually if he says he thinks they are ready and they want to go, they will leave. I doubt he will tell Merrill he is ready to move on to the next level.

1 year 16 weeks ago When I was down in Champaign

When I was down in Champaign for the football game against Illinois, they acted like it was the biggest game of the year to them. To us, it was just another Big Ten game while waiting for the Nebraska and Ohio games.

1 year 16 weeks ago Also a few on-campus crimes

Also a few on-campus crimes before DPS reported them to students, if they did at all (ie. Chem Building gunman and shooting by Thompson parking structure).

1 year 16 weeks ago After the suspension this

After the suspension this year with him waiting it out, I believe Merrill will stay and that the Devils will want him to stay.

As far as goalies go, we have Steven Racine coming in and I believe another, check out Yost Built for our entire class' details. That will have more information that I can provide.

1 year 17 weeks ago I just have noticed that BTN

I just have noticed that BTN in general has a lot more equipment than FSD and Comcast.

FSD seems to do the main camera, a corner (either by the band or 3rd floor by north stands) and maybe an extra one on the ground level. BTN had like 2 in the corners ice level along with the ones up top.

1 year 17 weeks ago To me, it seems like BTN

To me, it seems like BTN brings twice as much equipment and crew as the other networks (Comcast local and FSD) that cover games at Yost. Is it completely necessary to have like 4 or 5 cameramen? I personally prefer FSD when the Wings aren't playing b/c Ken Daniels usually covers the game. Saw him and Mickey getting some coffee a few years ago before heading upstairs to the pressbox.

1 year 17 weeks ago Right where momma keeps the

Right where momma keeps the peanut butter. I am personally looking forward to senior night. Always a good way to send out the guys, especially those who don't receive as much proclaim for what they did here. Do it for the seniors, like team 132.

1 year 17 weeks ago Cue the students that leave

Cue the students that leave before the game even ends. I make a point not to leave until after the alma mater has been sung.

1 year 17 weeks ago Historically, the #2 seeds do

Historically, the #2 seeds do better than the #1 seeds. Also, after reading Blue Ice for Bacon's class, I don't want to have a 1 seed. We do better when we don't. He refers to it as the Terrier's curse - when we are favored to win, we don't. When we are an underdog, that's when we perform better.

1 year 18 weeks ago This game is a good lead-in

This game is a good lead-in to the final home series of the regular season. Too bad I will be at Yost at that time. Guess I'll have to ask the parents to DVR it so I can watch over spring break.

1 year 18 weeks ago Haha I forgot about that

Haha I forgot about that commercial.

Go with the Michigan jersey or the Labatts. Roy is still hated in town and Toronto fans despise MTL.

1 year 18 weeks ago My roommate's dad was here in

My roommate's dad was here in the early 80s and said they used to buy an extra ticket and bring a keg into the student section with them. Maybe if we allowed this students would show up on time? Just a hypothetical.

Both venues will be great and should fill up. Does anyone know the fourth team in the GLI next year?

1 year 19 weeks ago I agree with you that this

I agree with you that this should be a sweep given the way we have played since the Alaska series in the fall, but I am cautiously optimistic. I know that Miami tends to give us trouble. With that in mind, I decided to sport my Worst State Ever shirt today.

1 year 19 weeks ago Here's to birthday goals from

Here's to birthday goals from each of them to go along with those 6 points. The Barn should be rocking, especially with the Children of Yost doing Don Cherry Night on Saturday.

1 year 19 weeks ago Does anyone happen to know

Does anyone happen to know what hand? I assume it's his glove, since that side takes a little more direct abuse than the blocker.

The Wings will be fine, but let's hope he gets well soon with how tight the Central has been this year.

1 year 19 weeks ago Didn't get to watch the game

Didn't get to watch the game besides the shootout. Pavel is so dirty, wouldn't want to be that goalie, let alone play against him. I wish we could have pulled this out in 3 instead of OT, just to put some distance between us and the Canucks. I'll take the win regardless.

1 year 19 weeks ago NIke has owned Bauer since

NIke has owned Bauer since '94 but the Nike Bauer combo name didn't happen until 2006. They killed that name after about 2009 and just went back to Bauer. Reebok has been owned by Addidas since 2005, right before the Nike Bauer name came out.

I really like Reebok's hockey stuff. I was slightly skeptical at first, but I've been wearing 5K skates since junior year of high school and have had no problems at all. I prefer the Reebok logo on the jerseys, more fitting to hockey.

1 year 19 weeks ago If the goal against the Wings

If the goal against the Wings would have been scored by anyone else on the ice, I would probably care a little bit more. However, since Cammaleri is a former wolverine, I can put aside any anomosity for that goal. It's always great to see our alumni doing great things in the NHL.

1 year 20 weeks ago PDG along with Guptill have

PDG along with Guptill have been a welcomed boost to the lineup after the loss of great talent last year. When the seniors and juniors struggled early in the season, these two were a great help.

1 year 20 weeks ago Same here, except with a

Same here, except with a minor in German. What year are you srzeppa27?

1 year 20 weeks ago Who would have thought that a

Who would have thought that a walk-on (two if you count Janecyk's appearance this year) would have this much success at Michigan. We are typically known for our high profile goalies (ie. Montoya, Sauer, etc.) but the program is in the hands of a small time guy who's having lots of success.

1 year 20 weeks ago Found an Annarbor.com article

Found an Annarbor.com article about this too, for anyone that is interested. http://annarbor.com/sports/um-football/michigan-quarterback-denard-robinson-gets-shout-out-from-barack-obama/

1 year 20 weeks ago Unfortunately the bandwagon

Unfortunately the bandwagon fans come early and take the good seats. These are the same kids that leave before the end of the game instead of staying and singing the alma mater. My cousin who graduated in '09 suffered through the Amaker years and then had to deal with the bandwagon kids his senior year and year of grad school. I realize the importance of having a full student section; however, the fans that have shown dedication should be rewarded properly.

I'm glad you as a die-hard fan got to go to it instead of some stuffy alumni. It's great that the athletic department did this. Proud to be a Phi!

I'm thankful for a December game in the Big House. Cannot wait until we host the Big Chill and we destroy Sparty's world record for largest hockey crowd.

2 years 29 weeks ago I just visited their graves

I just visited their graves this past Sunday with some of the guys in my fraternity. Bob Ufer was a brother of my fraternity when he was here and we have made a point for our pledges to visit the grave, along with Yost's since he is right across the path from Ufer.

3 years 18 weeks ago The game will be on, except

The game will be on, except in the rare case that there is another structural problem like Miami last year. I'm sure that the UM maintenance crews will be out clearing the area around Yost, and the entrances will probably will be shoveled and salted. It's weird having a Tuesday night game. The only midweek games are typically the Niagara home opener on a thursday.

3 years 19 weeks ago I am glad that Brown got the

I am glad that Brown got the game winner, since he was the one that got ripped off at Munn the night before.

3 years 20 weeks ago I'm pretty sure that was

I'm pretty sure that was Wilkins covering that side of the ice and was completely out of position for the goal. If you remember the play where Summers was checked from behind and the ensuing State goal was called off, Shegos was literally directly behind the net and was clearly in the correct position for the play.

Now turn to the play that the whistle was blown early. I will agree that the intent to blow the whistle is stupid and it must be used properly, which it obviously wasn't in this case. But if you remember where Wilkins was positioned on that play, he was on the goal line, about the distance of the faceoff dot away. When he waves it off from that far away, he is not in position to make that call properly. Now the CCHA will never admit this, b/c they protect their own (see Notre Dame game at home last season).

I am not defending Shegos here, just pointing out the fact that in the first case, he was in proper position and Wilkins was not.

3 years 26 weeks ago Another player that has been

Another player that has been a disappointment this year has been matt rust. He really hasn't contributed as much as i thought he would, despite being on a line hagelin and brown for the most part. Brown has looked promising at times and I think playing with rusty and hagelin has helped him. The best looking player this year, by far, has to be hagelin. He is just working harder and going to the puck faster (his amazing speed definitely helps this) and no surprise leads the team with 9 goals. One last thing to say about hagelin, Bork! Bork! Bork!

Don't forget the unprovoked chants after a goal...slutty sisters, slutty girlfriends haha. Pretty much every chant that comes from the student section is amaizing

3 years 33 weeks ago I remember there being a

I remember there being a fight or something last year during the Wisky game. I don't know exactly what happened but DPS and ushers had to come up and escort a few drunk Badgers out of the stadium. Cops got a standing ovation from us as they were walking out.

3 years 37 weeks ago Anyone catch the Favre

Anyone catch the Favre reference on MNF? It was that play where Romo ducked a sack ran to the right and then threw that lucky pass to the other side of the field. The announcers said, "He favred it in there." ESPN has officially made Favre into a verb

3 years 37 weeks ago Another parody

Here is a parody done by an actual MSU student last year. I edited a few things.

On the Bank of the Red Cedar
Is a school that's known to all;
It's specialty is drinking,
And spartans likes beer pong;
At drinking games we're never beaten,
we drink through the days and nights;
Till we vomit the only colors,
Green and White!

Go right through' for MSU,
License points keep growing.
Drinking Teams are bound to win,

My roommate did that last year when he was studying on his bed for our Anthro 101 exam (we were both in the class). I walked in later that day and I saw him passed out on his bed with the anthro book lying next to him.

I am a sophomore but I have been going to games since I was in elementary school. From what I have noticed, especially so far this year, is that the AAPD and DPS have shifted their focus towards state street and student parties instead of regular tailgates. I go down to the golf course to tailgate with my uncle and his buddies. We have noticed a lack of DPS bike cops (the usual law enforcement presence down there) so far this year. You'd figure that they wouldn't ignore the golf course with the influx of so many more tailgaters this year.

Wouldn't an I'm with Stupid shirt work just as well? haha But the I'm with little brother would get you some stupid comments regarding little brother, because apparently they don't fully understand the full joke behind that. After last year's loss to them, one of my state friends asked, "Who's little brother now?" Definitely shows their ignorance.

Because of the enthusiasm of the student section, the visiting section is located on the opposite side of Yost from the students. They sit right next to their team's penalty box, so I assume that the tickets right in front of the students are not available to anyone outside of the home parents.

3 years 38 weeks ago From what I have heard about

From what I have heard about MSU, they are even worse than they were last year, mainly due to the loss of the Midget sieve. I fully expect sparty to be a bottom-feeder in the CCHA this year again. The domers lose one of their biggest (literally) component from last year, Pearce, who is now within the Detroit farm system. And Miami wasn't scary good last year. When we played them in the Worst State ever, both games were close defensively, but our offense didn't score for us (I think we had one goal the entire weekend). But second semester we handled them easily at Yost.

3 years 39 weeks ago That's exactly what I thought

That's exactly what I thought too.

I went on to mgoblue.com to see how the LBs played statwise.

Mouton - 4 solo tackles, 1 assisted
Ezeh - 2 solo tackles, 5 assisted
Stevie Brown - 3 solo, 3 assisted

These are the 3 that had significant contributions to the ND game.

For comparison, here are a few other players:
Graham - 3 solo, 0 assisted
Woolfolk - 5 solo, 3 assisted
Warren - 3 solo, 3 assisted
Death Roh - 2 solo, 0 assisted
Booboo - 4 solo, 1 assisted
Martin - 1 solo, 2 assisted

statwise, they didn't play too bad compared to everyone else.

Signs are allowed at the other venues on campus (ie. yost and crisler) so I would assume that if those two venues allow signs, then the Big House does as well. I have seen signs when watching games on tv in the past so as long as it isn't profane, I'm sure that the ushers wouldn't have a problem with it.

I agree, the current one does not serve much purpose beyond showing the score/penalties/shots. It would be nice to have live video on it instead of the gaudy tvs that currently hang underneath the press box and club seats.

Personally, I don't think we need a huge HD screen. I agree that we do need an upgrade from the current screens. Michigan already has a pride/history attached to the scoreboards, being that the Big House was the first stadium to use an electronic scoreboard.

second, I agree that the optimism for this year has helped to fuel my excitement for the season. I have always followed Michigan football, but the biggest thing that gets me ready for saturdays in the fall is the fact that I am a student. The year I was accepted was the year of The Horror, but my first game after being accepted was the Minnesota Homecoming game that year. Being an actual student of the University is what jumped my fandom (is that a word?) to a whole new level.

3 years 42 weeks ago Consistent play

exactly, we had the purdue game under control at the beginning of the game and then gave it away. The main problem I saw last year was the team played well at times, but they didn't play consistent football. Take the Wisconsin game for example: First half, we had 5 turnovers and 0 points. Second half, I don't have to remind you guys how it played out. The same thing happened with the Penn State and Purdue games, except we came out of the gun running and after the first quarter or so, we slowed down and gave up our lead.

As long as the team plays well for four consistent quarters, I will be happy with the performance.

3 years 42 weeks ago It's good to hear about the

It's good to hear about the people that are behind the scenes of the sports. Without them, we would not be able to enjoy our sports to their full extent.

To me, it sounds like Matt has done his homework on the viewers of their content to focus on delivering it to those who actually read it.

3 years 42 weeks ago As much as I would love to

As much as I would love to finish 1st or 2nd in the Big 10, I realize that we still need to gain a little more experience in certain positions in order to fully compete for the title. Realistically, I think we will be 7-5 this year. A winning record and a trip to a fairly decent bowl game would be good enough, as well as a win against MSU and ND.

Forgot about this picture. My cousin is actually the one holding the "Fire" sign. The ushers took it away at halftime, so good luck keeping the sign if the ushers see it.

29,105 Applications
11,953 Admissions
5,710 Enrolled

http://www.admissions.umich.edu/about/

Office of Admissions has its reasoning for accepting almost 12,000 students. They expect attrition mainly from out-of-staters who decide to go Ivy or the in-state students that decide to go to MSU or a lower level school within the state of Michigan for financial reasons or God forbid, academic reasons.

3 years 43 weeks ago A few of the chants at Yost

A few of the chants at Yost were originally from Cornell but over the years, the student section has modified them and made the chants our own ie. the Cya Chant, which no one else has come close to.

I completely agree that there needs to be more creativity in regards to coming up with Michigan specific chants. I also think that the band should start playing bulwinkle and the dudley do-right songs more often. These two songs are a Michigan tradition that seems to have fallen off except at Yost and Crisler.

3 years 43 weeks ago Yeah you are right, I just

Yeah you are right, I just looked over this years roster for UConn and they seem very green to me and the players that have started don't seem too productive. We are bringing back all of our major contributors which will definitely give us a distinct advantage over them. I'm sure that the atmosphere at Crisler will be the same as the Duke game last year so that will help. Even last year, we hung in with them to the very end of the game even leading them at a few times.

3 years 43 weeks ago Bad luck getting Ohio State

Bad luck getting Ohio State at home on Jan 3. A good majority of students will still be on break because classes don't start until the 6th and the dorms probably won't open back up until the 5th.

I think if we can make it out of January with a decent record we will be set with the tournament this year. I don't think we will have the high profile upsets like the Duke and UCLA games last year, but we should hang close with Kansas and UConn.

3 years 43 weeks ago I have met Coach Beilein and

I have met Coach Beilein and around campus and saw Desmond at the Titletown filming last year.

I have actually seen Beilein twice: first time I was picking up my paycheck from Weidenbach (I work for the Athletic Dept) and he was walking through the lobby as I walked in. He said how's it going to me. At first, I didn't even realize that it was him. I had to do a double take. The second time I saw Beilein was during the past spring semester. I went up to A2 for a day to take care of some things for classes and to visit a friend. We were walking to my friend's apartment after coming out of Angell. On the Diag, I saw Beilein walking towards me with what looked like a recruit and his family. He once again said hello to me and this time I responded with Hey Coach.

Desmond was really cool at the Titletown filming. Before everything started, he met with the small group of the band that attended. Afterwards, Desmond stuck around to sign autographs and talk to fans. I didn't have anything for him to sign so I ran into the Grad to get a piece of paper. I kind of snuck my way up to the front of the group of people around Desmond. I got up to him and asked him to sign my slip of paper as a reporter from the Daily? asked him if it was a hard decision to come back to Ann Arbor the filming. Of course, he says that there was no doubt that he wanted to do that and that he loved the fans.

3 years 43 weeks ago Oh I like Shaw too, I am just

Oh I like Shaw too, I am just really excited by the way Smith looks so far. He has the potential to be really good for us especially after we lose our senior depth at Rb. I think Shaw will most likely have an impact at Rb too if given a decent amount of carries this year behind the seniors.

3 years 43 weeks ago I like the way Vincent Smith

I like the way Vincent Smith looks. He has the ability to avoid tackles just like Hart and has a little more speed in the open field. I loved watching Mike Hart but it was painful watching defenders catch up to him in the secondary. I think that Smith will get a decent amount of reps this year behind Minor and Brown, as long as both remain healthy. If not, he could end up as the starter over Grady.

3 years 43 weeks ago honestly, I think that you

Michigan just doesn't have much of a need to use the image of a wolverine because of the rarity of the name makes it unique to our team and easily recognizable. The winged helmets and the block M serve as our symbols.

3 years 43 weeks ago It seems like ever since the

It seems like ever since the incident, Bertuzzi has just bounced around each year. Teams must see him as a liability on the ice or a problem in the locker room. That being said, he will provide the wings with a physical presence on the ice that only kronwall and stuart seem to possess.

3 years 43 weeks ago While I enjoy seeing a former

While I enjoy seeing a former buckeye get wrecked on MNF, I would rather see a current one get run over by someone like Minor or see Pryor get picked off by our worst defender again.

3 years 44 weeks ago sounds like...

All in for Michigan sounds like something the PR department for little brother would come up with. It's just a poor attempt to rally the fans after a disappointing season.

I like the idea of the towels better than the pom poms they give out now. The towels look much more intimidating than pom poms ever will. The only problem will be getting the students to buy them (unless RR decides to give them away to students for free) and of course the older alumni who may buy them but refrain from waving them.
