|1 hour 43 sec ago||I was one of the last "Manzielots"||
I will admidt it. I was (and maybe still am a little bit) a HUGE Johnny Football fan. I was beyond excited when the Browns drafted him and I was there last October when he got his first start against the Bengals. I can tell you walking into the stadium that day there was an energy and excitement that we Browns fans seldom (if ever) get to feel. And then he laid a giant turd and that basically ended that last year.
This year seemed different though - at least at the start. He came in for a concussed McCown in game one and on the second series unleashed a beutiful 60 yard bomb for a TD. We lost the game but damn he was fun to watch. Then game two against Tennessee he led us to victory with again, two long bombs, the last one being totally JF with him running around and throwing the ball sidearmed against his body for an imossible TD. For a day at least it was fun to be a Browns fan.
Everyone knows how this has ended. And I'm sad for Johnny but I'm also sad for me and all the other Browns fans who hoped beyond hope we had finally found our QB. Now it's ending beyond badly, we've got a new coach (again) and we're going to have to find a new QB (again).
And I will miss watching him play. He made a shitty team interesting to watch at least.

I totally agree. Posting in a thread like this means my VERY IMPORTANT THOUGHTS ON THINGS might get lost in the tidal wave of crap you losers post. Only by creating my own thread can I be asured that everyone will see and hear my VERY IMPORTANT THOUGHTS ON THINGS and give it the attention it deserves.

That's exactly what we were - "Sub-scouts" . My sister's next door neighboor in AA was Bob Chemiel who was the recruiting coordinator under Mo. And a very good friend of mine here in Cleveland was George Lilja who was an All American center when I was in school and retired from the NFL as a Brown. Couple those two and I got brought into the mix.
No, we could not talk to coaches or players (directly) without violating NCAA rules. But trust me, as soon as word spread there was a scout for Michigan at the game we had no problem at all meeting the frends and family of the player. And we would ask questions and they would ask me questions and so we'd communicate with the player through that Chinese veil of the third party. And yes, we worked the nearby area so for me it ran from Canton to the south to Solon to the north (I didnt recruit Cleveland but did have the Massilon/Barberton, Canton McKinley area).
Yes, winning was ASSUMED in the early 90's. That never even came up as a question.
And someday I'll write a diary about the time Marty Bodnar and me almost got us in trouble with the NCAA by offering to give Scott Loeffler a ride to a game. That was pretty funny but definitely a TL/DR for most.
|3 days 5 hours ago||What mattered from 1992-1994||
What mattered from 1992-1994 was the following:
1. How soon will I play?
2. How many players at my position have you put into the NFL recently?
3. What's my position coach REALLY like?
4. Are the girls in AA as bad as everybody says? (don't shoot the messenger here guys - unfortunately we DO have a reputation and negative recruiting exists)
5. Academics in general in my major. What's that like?
We got a spreadsheet and were asked to attend certain games and report in weekly on what we saw, who we spoke to and what their friends and family were like (this was VERY important to Michigan FWIW). Most of what we did was through their family and friends as actual contact was limited by the NCAA but those were the questions relayed the most often to us that we'd try and get answers to them.

Recruiting is insane and I know first hand - I actually did it for three years for Michigan. Trying to predict the thinking/decisions of a 17 year old is more insane. Getting emotionally invested in said decisions of said 17 year old's is the height of insanity IMO unless you're a coach or the kid's parent.
This is the one time a year I just sit quietly on the sidelines and watch without much (if any) comment.

I kinda liked the Treadwell one. Give the devil his due.....that was EPIC trolling.

So all in all he's not that bad? Note-if memory serves the Nazis got the trains to run on time so there's that.

I think you just described how every Spartan views every Wolverine. Harbaugh's not unique in that regard.

Panthers 38-7. No parlay on the over/under. Heavy bet on Carolina.

Funny - when Seth said you were on a top-secret and important mission the first thing I thought of was "I wonder if he's having a baby". Welcome to the club my man....nothing like your first born son.

"What's he suppose to say? Watching Rutgers play basketball is like watching a bunch of blind chimps trying to hump a teddy bear"?
So no-go on truth then? Got it.
|1 week 3 days ago||Agree on all counts||
One question though - are there more coming or was Weaver the last one? Cause if there are more on the way it would be good for Michigan to get in front of this as fast as they can and not (as the great Don Canham used to say) turn a one day story into a two day (or even longer) story.
I dont think it serves anyone's purpose associated with Michigan to have these keep coming out individually.

If you like Mopars instead of Poncho's I could easily make a case for the 1970 Challenger in that movie as an excellent choice. And the ending of that movie is as jarring as anything I've ever seen.

Have stayed in a lot of places but prefer Fremont St to the stip all day long. WAY cheaper and if you're into gambling & drinking you'll pay about half what you'll pay on the strip.
True story - one time I stayed at the Bellagio and got a Bloody Mary for me and wife. Lots of pretty vegtables in it and the price was $18 fucking dollars. I can could barely taste the vodka.
Next day we're walking in the mall in old Vegas and there's a bar set up outside the Golden Nugget. I ask for a bloody mary and the bartender pulls out a cup for an extra large beer and starts pouring vodka while he's talking to me. When the vodka reached about the brim he put in no more than a half a cup of tomato juice, a couple of shots of tabasco and an olive or two and handed me this mostly clear glass of vodka. I asked him how much for THAT?
$2.00 he said. It was happy hour.
I love old vegas.

And we're perhaps seeing why Ohio was de-emphasized as a "must-get" state.
|1 week 5 days ago||I dont||
As far as I'm concerned they can move their balls whenever and wherever they want. I, for one, support the moving of balls and think everybody should move their balls alongside theirs.
|1 week 5 days ago||You are 100% correct||
And my record on parlays this year would certainly affirm this to be true. But I bet for fun and entertainment, not to change my standard of living, so a parlay with a nice payout is more "fun" even though the odds are stacked against me. So I put down $100 on a Pats/Panthers parlay.
Hopefully my bet is still alive for game 2

First Big Boutros returns from the potty and now Aquaman. Can TVH & the WLA be far behind?
|1 week 5 days ago||No teaser. Parlay means both||
No teaser. Parlay means both have to win for the bet to pay. A $100 Pats/panthers parlay pays (lots of Ps there) $260.

Gonna parlay pats and panthers hard. Think both win by 10 or more
