Why does it seem that Michigan can't get the pile of early commitments from the top 150 crowd like Alabama or OSU? I know timing doesn't matter, and we do get traction early with the QB commitments in particular, but ultimately it would seem like building momentum by getting many of them early has a compounding class effect for those other programs. We get our share but it is more of a nail biter position to the finish line rather than a dominance of the race from the start of the process. Am I wrong with this perception?

The ref pool absolutely blows on and off the field.
At least 6 total garbage calls that would have been crucial if PSU had any kind of offense.

The Lions need a leadership change from the Lewand, Mayhew regime before they can lure in top NFL coaches. It's been brutal to see the chronic apathy of the team through the years. I blame it on the top.

While the comparison seems a little odd, I suppose if you forced me I would say he is definitely more like Charles Woodson than Dymonte Thomas. I am not sure how either way adds to any wins or losses for Michigan, though.

Just a hypothetical. Why? Social engineering via redirection to do some fact checking on the indirect pieces being assembled.
Whoever it is, I am OK with it, truth or lies. It was fun to read.

It's amazing how comments would even argue this point. This is one of the most influential leadership positions at one of the most prestigious universities AND athletic programs, yet some people will seriously argue that a person with no background or experience in this capacity at any level is the best candidate that the university can obtain on a longer time scale?
Because...wait for it...he ran a company that makes office furniture and played a little football? Those who argue these merits learned nothing from the Dave Brandon tenure. You don't need to risk this and shouldn't because the stakes are too high and there is no upside.
It is completely irrelevant whether or not he might potentially do an OK job as anything more than an interim AD. It would be reckless to roll the dice when you can have many experienced and well qualified candidates who don't have to try to adapt to or learn the dyamics of the role.
Neg away, idiots.

I would be pretty angry, because I still want to believe that this football program can be relevant on the national scale. The fact that we have another corporate-minded (interim?) AD with ZERO credible experience for the function is discuraging enough because it shows that the University may not "get it". I am very uncomfortable watching the winningest program approach the defibrillators with its weary fan base who diagnosed the obvious demise and its causes much faster than the inept leadership.

This sucks if true and would be very disappointing. He isn't what the athletic department needs.

The sooner we get a real AD and not another corporate schmuk the better.

Well said, Brian. It's a shame to see anyone fall from the mountain so close to the peak, especially one of our own. We were all rooting for him just a few moments ago, and now we recoil as if we have zero sympathy. While we all need absolutes, I am glad you note that it's OK to feel dismay. I hope that everyone affected can find the right measure of forgiveness and that the right steps for healing are taken.

It's not his fault that the players can't execute, he can't see the plays, can't diagnose boo-boos, and he can't wear a damn head set to communicate crisply.
He is obviouly a stubborn person who is over-empowered for his capabilities. Time to move on. There is now overwhelming evidence that shows he is missing too many essential skills that are must-haves at a prominent program. He knows it: you can detect his mental meltdown happening right under the surface of his media responses. You don't groom people at his level. You expect the whole package.
|2 years 20 weeks ago||wow||
Wrong on almost every point. Brandon has done more harm than any of those positives could overcome. Any qualified AD is expected to achieve those goals at a major program. He has trashed so many fundamentals of the brand and institution with flippant disregard and even contempt for the history. It's ludicrous to suggest otherwise. He is a smug elitist snob who actually believes his legalistic media rhetoric will soothe simpletons like me. The University will be much better served once a qualified AD is in place and the athletic program management is operating efficiently and with less focus on growing itself.

I have been quiet during the maelstrom. But I am ashamed of the way Hoke is representing our University. I cannot even convince myself that he is a good guy. The actions just don't back up the (poorly developed) words. Maybe when he is gone he can put on a damn headset, grow up, evolve, and get his act together in a FCS school.
Brandon has to be the first domino so we are stuck with this dementia they call leadership for at least a month.

I admire Jalen for everything he did for the university and for his work in the Detroit community. This makes it hard for me to evaluate what he says without it carrying some weight through my rose-colored glasses (pun intended). None of us know the inside scoop as well as the coaches and players that wore the maize and blue proudly (including CW). I suspect that Jalen has reached out more than once and received a cool response. I am sure that frustrates him. He is a passionate person who clearly cares deeply. I hope it all gets reconciled some day soon because he is good man and I would like him to feel welcome anywhere on campus at every level.
|3 years 16 weeks ago||2 Consistent Observations through the Season||
1. Offensive Line Blocking - it looks like the scheme is confusing the linemen. Why is the OL coach not simplifying the scheme to keep targets obvious for them?
2. Defensive Backs not Looking Back - this seems to be coached into them, too. I notice them in position to make plays on the deep routes, but not seeing the ball and thus getting hands up to block the pass over the shoulder/head.
One more minor Item - lack of pressure with 4-5 rushers from the D-line, too. Not sure why because they seem pretty stout, in general.
|3 years 18 weeks ago||I am uncomfortable with the||
I am uncomfortable with the level of personal criticism directed at the players by name in all of these threads.
They wear the Michigan uniform and play their hearts out for the Michigan team, and for that they have my 100% support for everything that they do on that field, even if they struggle.
They are still very young inside the tackles. Those names getting criticism are going to be excellent linemen in a year or two and we will all be smiling about their performance then, so support them now.
A little change-up right now makes sense, Let's see what happens over the next few weeks,
OL, OC and S&C coaching critical assessment, on the other hand, is fair.
