Can we get Roy Manning back…

Can we get Roy Manning back to coach LBs?

Go watch 2022 OSU and watch…

Go watch 2022 OSU and watch All in street clothes going crazy all game. Guy was a terrific teammate, Wolverine, and champion. Jim Harbaugh bad mouthed the program too. Stuff happens, but they guy deserves status and respect as a Michigan great. Think about the PSU play.

IIRC the defensive efforts…

IIRC the defensive efforts with Mo Hurst vs OSU in 2016 and 2017 were pretty darn solid. He left and 2018 and 2019 became the OSU laser shows. In 2016, M threw a pick 6 and had another pick taken to the 15 leading to 14 points of the 17 points in regulation.

The BPONE for basketball is…

The BPONE for basketball is out of control. Last year was frustrating but 11-9 was the 5th best league record with so much going the wrong way in the luck (make your own luck) category.

Pulling for him. Michigan…

Pulling for him. Michigan grad and a frequent sideline visitor for games nowadays.

I appreciate the "be present…

I appreciate the "be present" and I do think it's special, but at some point I just want to see the score of the MSU game. Literally impossible for me to do that without walking out to the concourse. The commercials are 4 minutes long multiple times per quarter. I love being friendly but it's not too much to ask to be able to send my family a picture of the game or check a score app.

It says quite a bit that as…

It says quite a bit that as dreadful as this year has been, this team had a winning record in Big Ten play, went 2-1 against OSU/MSU, and was an IU overtime loss from being the 2 seed in the league tournament. We have had it pretty good as fans for this to feel as terrible as it does. I think of the 2000s when a tournament bid felt like gold. I have faith that next season will be much better. Howard has been very good at ID'ing players (Brown, Smith, Jones, Shannon) in the portal and if he finds a few shotmakers, they'll be back to the big dance.

M wins tonight, OSU beats NW…

M wins tonight, OSU beats NW tomorrow, Purdue beats Iowa. Michigan gets to play IU Saturday for T2nd along with winner of Rutgers/Illinois on Saturday. This isn't that important but it would feel good to be top 3 in the league after the dust settles this weekend. Have to win tonight for that to be possible.

Feel like it's really…

Feel like it's really important to note that Erick All was on the sideline of every game and very supportive of the players and coaches. (He was going nuts trying to get the defense off of the field after the Upshaw picture.) It sounds like his gripes are solely with the medical office. Cade was definitely on the sideline for PSU and likely others, but his situation is much more complicated, I'd say, and understandably so.

You don't need athletic…

You don't need athletic scholarships for college sports. Division 3 schools exist.

Interesting that the 2020…

Interesting that the 2020 class isn't mentioned here.

I would say guys in the 20-30 range turning into rotational players is a huge success, which I think is what you're saying. There are only so many spots.

2021 Michigan is 7-2 ATS…

2021 Michigan is 7-2 ATS.

I'm sure it won't happen,…

I'm sure it won't happen, but if Weiss could be Harbaugh's Joe Brady/Coach O equivalent that'd be pretty cool.

Just sitting here thinking…

Just sitting here thinking about how there's a game on Saturday in front of the band and crowd at the Big House. That is extremely exciting.

The more I watch the limited sample of McNamara, the more I think the floor, as Seth says, really is quite high. He seems so comfortable taking the easy yards and making those throws that I think it really marries the QB role with what that offense has been inching toward since Patterson arrived. Both Patterson and Milton never looked as deliberate as McNamara did at times. Even in 2018 in wins against Wisconsin and PSU, it often felt more random that the offense found success.

The regression issue is a fair point as Patterson seemed worse in 2019, but I don't care. I'm going to be optimistic that Michigan will at least be able to outscore anyone but UW/Wisconsin/PSU/OSU.

Yep, you should definitely…

Yep, you should definitely be excited. Most of my thoughts are on the basis that Cleveland was never going to pay Lindor anyway. I think he will be good for at least a few years, I'd bet the Mets will keep him. I also just have faith in the Cleveland GM that they'll continue to compete, they've had a good bit of roster turover the last few years losing Brantley, Kluber, and others, but they've been able to continue to compete. Cookie is a tougher bet, but if he's healthy he will be a major asset and can pitch from the bullpen too. I hope the Mets succeed, I like seeing that franchise as an NL competitor.

Cleveland fan here. Stinks…

Cleveland fan here. Stinks to see Lindor go but the FO was never going to pay him and give him the years, as that would be idiotic for a small market team. Also he's probably the 3rd best player on the team over the last two years. Jose Ramirez and Shane Bieber were far more consistent producers. His bat remained solid in 2020 but his defense has deteriorated and I think it will continue to do so. The Mets sent rookie Jiminez (.732 OPS in 2020), a middling 25yo middle infielder, and their #9 and #10 prospects. Lindor carried a .750 OPS in 2020. If Jiminez can really pop and develop, the production trade off may not be that bad. As for Carrasco, this is also a bummer after his career as a fan favorite in Cleveland and all he went through. Tito and his staff have shown a strong ability to develop pitching in Cleveland, hopefully that continues. With all of that being said, this is another move by ownership that won't go over well with fans. The payroll has fallen off of a cliff despite the club having a very good young core that is only short a few pieces. If the Dolans are actually unable to spend, you'd love to see them sell the club. If they have the money and refuse to invest it in the club, that's just sad. Still, the front office has continued to thrive at finding value and winning in trades (with a few exceptions) so that keeps them afloat, but the average fan will look at this deal and think it's the same old Dolans, right or wrong.

Shooting percentages…

Shooting percentages increase every year at all levels, even as shots are taken from a further distance. Are you sure that shooting form is decreasing?

A huge part of this, in my…

A huge part of this, in my opinion, is the staying power of this G League commitment to prospect development. Has anyone considered that the league might not see an appropriate ROI on these $500k offers to prospects? If they are going to take 30 prospects each season at a conservative average of $100k per contract, is that (plus marketing/promotion/increased expenses) going to pay off with television ratings and fan support? Is the NBA willing to do this at a loss and how much of one? I think it's reasonable to question how invested the league is in this long term if it isn't a money-maker. I think CBB long term would be fine with a bit of a talent drop off. Fans still care about their schools, traditions, etc. Obviously if the NBA hopes to really commit to this, that's at CBB's expense.

I've always thought this was…

I've always thought this was a huge headwind for M vs. OSU. This year is certainly an outlier but the depth and talent compared to Ohio doesn't feel close. There are a lot more HS football players in Ohio than in Michigan. Not to mention that Michigan has to fend off Sparty at times while OSU has no in state competition. I realize both programs skew much more national now in how they recruit, but if Michigan could get the top five Ohio kids each year as opposed to the top five Michigan kids, I feel like they'd perform better.

Best of luck to the kid. Too…

Best of luck to the kid. Too bad he didn’t follow in the footsteps of fellow St. Ignatius Wildcat linebacker Jake Ryan and head north. I’d say that decision worked out well for him.

Is it safe to assume this…

Is it safe to assume this will be a 12:30ish kickoff?

is this what it feels like…

is this what it feels like to have a kid graduate? feels that way

Michigan might be going to

Michigan might be going to the playoff this year as well if they swapped schedules with Georgia.

Obviously the weather is an issue but I'd love to see it in Cleveland if they were to bounce it around and include outdoor venues. TONS of Cleveland kids playing all across the Big Ten and while it is a Buckeye town there are plenty of Michigan fans here.

I had Slim Chickens for the first time ever last Thursday. Terrible food. Good luck though.

Yup, I lived in Cleveland

Yup, I lived in Cleveland proper my whole life and it's growth has been pretty impressive. Even the areas that get bad publicity aren't all that bad either. Lots of young folks moving into the trendier areas like Tremont, OC, and Downtown make it very fun.

Michigan fans should not hate

Michigan fans should not hate Cleveland, too many great players from that city over the years. Dez, Elvis, and countless others.

Blake Thomas as well. Iggy

Blake Thomas as well. Iggy kids should always Go Blue.

That's part of it, but you

That's part of it, but you can still find good players in Chicago the right way.  Collins has recruited Law (top 100 guy), Jordan Ash (top 250), and Scottie Lindsey. All Chicago guys who help them out.  I doubt they're doing anything to dirty and they've had great success. There's tremendous depth in Chicago HS hoops and getting a guy who is aware of the environment and can find the right guys is important.

Decent chance he'll end up at

Decent chance he'll end up at Cleveland St.  Wonder where Illinois goes from here. They need a guy with Chicago ties and Groce certainly wasn't that.

Shocked to find a fellow Blue

Shocked to find a fellow Blue Streak on this site.

I'm already a big Craig fan

I'm already a big Craig fan because he gave the shoutout to the 1987 St Joe's team featuring Dez, Elvis, and Riley.

A children's film early and then an action movie after that seems like a good idea.

I love threads like this one.

I love threads like this one.  I have no real reason to read about the LA housing market, but because it's mgoblog I will read the whole thing and learn something new.  Tons of unique people with great insights on this blog.

He will be the Derrick Williams of this year's draft.

The only reason this is wrong

The only reason this is wrong is because he said, "F that Guy" in a press conference, which you can't do.  I've heard what he said hundreds of times directed at many different people and it's not a big deal.

Deshawn Sims' tip in at the

Deshawn Sims' tip in at the horn vs. Sparty would have been great, but not program changing or anything.  The App St. FG could have made a remarkable difference in the direction of the program.

It would not be a wash for

It would not be a wash for basketball if Michigan makes a change.  A Nike contract would mean increased access to top recruits.  Nike probably holds 80% of the market for these top clubs while there are a few who play with Adidas.

It's like Jim Hackett's brain

It's like Jim Hackett's brain was constructed only by mgoblog comments. I like it.

It's an AAU thing. He plays

It's an AAU thing. He plays for an adidas club so when he talks to his AAU coaches they are going to be WAY more supportive of an adidas program. A good AAU director knows that to keep his job/money from the top executives, he must continue to feed guys to his sponsor's schools, in this case Adidas ones like M, UCLA, Kansas, etc.

Here's a question. Is the 100,000+ attendance crisis over with Harbaugh at the helm? Yes right?  Imagine if we hired a B-list candidate.  Would we be looking at ~90,000ish crowds at the Big House?

Considering I've posted

Considering I've posted nearly 1000 times on a Michigan blog and exactly 0 times on any Browns blog I'm going to say I'd rather see him in maize and blue on the sidelines.

I think we have a realistic shot at Towns.  The Bucks are currently going hard after OH 2016s Derek Funderburk and Micah Potter.  Both are frontcourt players like Towns and I believe they only have 2 schollies available.  Our last player from Northland wasn't too bad either :).
