I thought MSU would win the…

I thought MSU would win the clusterfuck derby, but Maryland is giving them a run for their money.

What a sanctimonious, self…

What a sanctimonious, self-righteous asshole.

I had to google "eo nomine"…

I had to google "eo nomine". Clever.

Bell's Two Hearted

Bell's Two Hearted is a solid choice, and should be available pretty much anywhere. Founder's All-Day IPA is also good. Greenbush Star Chicken Shotgun IPA, despite the odd name, is a very good India pale ale, but not as widely distributed as the Bell's or Founder's.

Money cannon, indeed

I've been reading MGoBlog for a long time, but this is one of the few times I have been moved to post anything. You are a good and courageous man, Ace, for being so open and brutally honest about your illness.

It is really moving to hit "refresh" every few minutes on the fundraiser link and watch the amount go up by hundreds of dollars. Michigan money cannon, indeed.

Apple is adding autoplay blocking to desktop/laptop Safari

Apple announced at the latest WWDC that Safari for macOS High Sierra will block autoplay videos. More here.

Beilein's quote

I just wanted to teach social studies and be a high school coach, and somehow it morphed to this.

He's being disingenuous here - it takes driving ambition to become a D1 coach. But I'm glad we have a coach like him.

Lucky Man was a Greg Lake

Lucky Man was a Greg Lake song, but yeah.

The Halo

He is referring to the infamous "halo" around the stadium.

JMFH's contract

The entertainment value alone makes JMFH's contract worth every penny.

Sincerely yours in football,

Tom

If this happens

I'm burning my diploma.

Software patents are too broad

I am not an attorney, but I am a software developer. Most software patents are too broad, and very frequently cover things that are prior art, or obvious, or simply routine stuff developers do all the time. Unfortunately, as the Ars article pointed out, defending patent suits is so expensive most defendants simply settle just make the problem go away. Good for Newegg for fighting this one.

I don't know if the fault for all this lies with the Patent and Trademark Office, or with patent legislation, but software patents should be much rarer and much narrower in scope than they are now.

The jury may still be out on

The jury may still be out on Al Borges as an OC, but as a GOPC (giver of press conferences), he is primo.

Brian, whatever you are paying Heiko,

it's not enough.

GoPass

Definitely check into a GoPass. All employers within the DDA (Downtown Development Area) district  are eligible to offer them to their employees. It costs $10/year, and you get unlimited rides on all city busses. This should help with finding a cheaper apartment.

The Michigan Daily's attorney responds to the Kitchener Rangers

here. Herschel Fink, the Daily's attorney, refers to the Kitchener Rangers as "bullies", and points out that the Daily has not actually been served yet. He also points out that the team threatened Notre Dame coach Jeff Jackson with a suit after Jackson charged that the team offered ND recruit Cam Fowler $500,000 to play in the OHL, but never made good on that threat.

Yes, brother

Sorry.

Carl

As mentioned upthread, Carl Grapentine was for many years a host on WQRS, Detroit's late lamented classical radio station. Once you've heard that voice, you can never forget it.

Carl's son, Chris, is the pastor of Northside Community Church in Ann Arbor, a fine soloist in his own right, and was Carl's sub at the stadium when Carl was in the hospital.

NY Times article on Michigan basketball

(Not enough points to start a new thread)

There is a nice article on the NY Times website on Beilein's reconstruction of the basketball program. Stu Douglass is compared to the Dalai Lama, an analogy that probably has not occurred to many people.

Booze-filled stadium

It wasn't all that long ago that booze filled the stadium. It's just that the U didn't get a cut then.

Editor of Onward State resigns

The managing editor of Onward State, PSU's student newspaper, is stepping down for his paper being the source of the false report that Paterno died.

How successful would Tressel be at the Colts?

He never played or held a major coaching position in the NFL, a league littered with the wreckage of successful college coaches who couldn't hack it in the pros. C.f. Carrol, Spurrier, Holtz, etc. The likelihood of the vest failing at the Colts and fading into obscurity is very high.

David Molk

Doug Karsh intereviewing Molk: "You were out the first series. What made you want to get in the game?" Molk: "The first snap".

That struck me too, given how

That struck me too, given how Hayes is idolized in C-bus while Bruce was unceremoniously dumped and forgotten. Demonstrates the insane Michigan fixation down there.

We've seen this movie before

We've seen this movie before, haven't we? Today O'Brien, tomorrow ???

Ohio

Ohio State is our biggest rival, first, last, and always.

Arbor Brewing

There were a ton of Nebraska fans in Arbor Brewing Company last night - a bus brought them there - and they all seemed very nice and pleasant . Not at all obnoxious.

Zing!

It's almost like Scot Shafer was on to something.

Active Directory

Active Directory is an abomination unto the Lord and should be killed, buried, and the burial ground sown with salt.

Works for me.

I tried it and it works for me.

No bulletin board material

Hoke never gives up any bulletin board material, unlike a few other coaches in the league.

Yes,

Pacific Rim is really good. Not particularly cheap, but really good.

WKNR

For Detroit-area alums of a certain area, the call letters WKNR will bring back a rush of memories.

EDIT: "certain age", not "certain area".

Crisler Arena, 1978

I was at the basketball game at Crisler in 1978 when during the break state rep. Perry Bullard was to present a signed copy of a resolution passed by the Michigan legislature and signed by the governor honoring Bo for all his years of service at Michigan. Except Bullard went off on a rant about the state's failure to decriminalize marijuana. About halfway through this Bo stormed off the court and the crowd started loudly booing Bullard. Bullard started reading the resolution but he could not be heard above the crowd noise. Bullard had to beat a hasty retreat when people started throwing things at him.

Classic.

Humor

Both of these guys have a nice sense of humor that you don't always hear from coaches.

"What's your record?" "Oh ... ten and one".  I almost spit coffee all over my laptop.

I saw some dude with a camera

I saw some dude with a camera and a huge lens on one of the upper concourses. He didn't appear to have any credentials, so I am guessing he is just a fan.

The pay is not so hot,

The pay is not so hot, though.

Scott is a really good

Scott is a really good photographer, but that auto-play music on his website has got to go. Auto-play audio on any website is really annoying.

Cheap parking

Another cheap parking option if you don't mind walking a bit is the surface lot on 415 W Washington, across from the Y, around the corner from the Blind Pig. It costs $3 to park there. it's about a mile walk south on Main to the stadium.

If Denarded were on Central time, this would have been posted at 1am, not 11pm.

Nice!

Nice!

The Ann Arbor church I go to

The Ann Arbor church I go to marks all home games on its calendar and won't allow people to schedule weddings there on those dates, due to parking, traffic, lack of hotel rooms, etc.. A lot of churches in the area do that.

He is getting in their heads

Hoke is getting in their heads, and he hasn't even coached a game yet. I love it.

If they bombed the Big House

If they bombed the Big House with Abdelkader, that would have been awesome.
