See i'm sorry but this is part of the problem. Reach out to the teacher? What are you gonna do when he gets to UM and a hardass math prof does exactly the same thing, go to the office and complain? Here you get 1hr a week shared with the GSI. The rest, you're on your own and yes, every class is tailored towards the limits of the top students and to weed out everyone else. 30% fail is common.
Every year there's hundreds of devastated "pre meds," but you know what? Learning early on that you can't hack it is better than wasting 3 years to then find out you suck at -----
Frankly high school needs a lot more of this, instead of lumping psychotics, IQ57s, and kids who want to learn all into some "history 10"
He needs to have back-up plans and so do you. My high school didn't even have a department head to cry to, and *no one* could afford a tutor. What you're doing seems more desperation than guidance.
key to getting into UM is to be smart enough to not care. I've heard this even from HYP students - If you have to work hard in high school, at anything, most likely classes at an elite college are going to be impossible. I mean, how else do you get perfect grades except that the work is a complete joke to you?
The hardest task was getting out of bed (had bad depression), staying awake and staying in one piece. My motivation was revenge and it wasn't till senior year i even thought of applying.
If you're really bent on getting your kid here, ONE bad grade in 9th might not be the end, but he needs to be clever. Does ACT/SAT test honors geometry? Nope! Will adcoms know or care that your school offers honors geo but you took regular because you couldn't hack it? Not if you ace it. This isn't harvard where you get rejected for taking "only" 12 APs
So do what he'd have to at UM, which is to research what these classes are like before signing up, and put his ego aside if he can't handle it.
But i think really he should not worry and try to enjoy life more...really to get so down about one bad grade, not worth it

Our home openers don't generate this hype because they're against miami-ohio and other rubbish. Against florida it would absolutely be huge, twice, in the swamp and ann arbor. What everyone's ignorning is florida would not likely agree to that. They haven't gone on a nonconf road game outside the state since the 1980s.
Michigan should do everything possible to schedule premiere games on campus, but if not possible, i'd take this game over akron at home every time. Something tells me though Brandon did not try especially hard to get USC/Georgia/Texas etc at home and home before resorting to this.

Non student section needs to be reduced!! No showing or showing late is one thing but giving tickets to the enemy deserves banning from the stadium. Red in the front row is more pathetic than anything the students have done so...I recommend the following initial punitive measures:
GA seating - fair is fair
corner endzone only
40% hike in ticket prices with much of it going to a rec center for future generations
if you do arrive early you will be crammed in there by ushers instead of picking where you sit
"validation" stickers if you can't go and want to just give your ticket away
banned from stubhub! - obvious
I'll think of more later but it's a good start
The only thing I'll add, based on other comments - You can only enter from one gate and old nags who scan tickets will hold you up, forcing you to miss several minutes of action even if you show up 10-15 mins early.
