Slightly unrelated, but I saw

Slightly unrelated, but I saw one of them at RBR posted about wanting to break Michigan's "current scoring streak" (AKA no shut-out streak), which apparently stands at 349 games (since a shutout at Iowa in 1984).  In first place is BYU's streak from 1975 to 2003, which stands at 361.

A little link-clicking shows that the source, the NCAA handbook, is the Fall 2011 edition.  Since we scored in all 13 of our games this season, we are now at 362, and now own the longest scoring streak in NCAA football history after the 2012 Sugar Bowl.  (The next closest active streak is Florida's with 297)  It's not as fancy-sounding as "winningest", but I think it complements it well.

Congrats guys!  We did it!

Shanghai has it's fair share

Shanghai has it's fair share of UM alums.  So does Beijing.  Michigan keeps Jointly-held campuses with Peking University in Beijing and Shanghai Jiao Tong University in Shanghai.   Little known fact, that accounts for UM's overreaching presence in East Asia.

It kind of sucks that people only know about the Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint campuses.

I wish him the best of luck!

I wish him the best of luck!  Will be watching him with the rest of us UM student-expats here in Shanghai.  Hopefully the time zone details won't have us watching at some obscene hour of the AM.  (but we'll be watching the Olympics regardless)

Vaguely relatedly, it's

Vaguely relatedly, it's pretty cool to study how people think during sports.  While it's going on, you agonize on every detail.  If you lose, you focus on what could've or should've happened and blot out the rest.  But if you win, it's like wiping everything clean, because you won and the details don't matter.  It's healthier for you.  Self-medication Zen.

Moment of zen is right - I

Moment of zen is right - I remember that play in slow-motion; my Michigan football-obsessed buddy and I got there two hours early, eventually got down into the stadium when there was only a handful of people in attendance, took a spot about 10 rows above the band, and guarded it with our lives (since our actual tickets were much higher).  I felt physically ill during ohio's last drive - like I knew that we were actually about to lose on some MSU-Wisconsin type of Hail Mary with no time left... and then when Miller leapt for that first down, I actually couldn't stand up straight anymore, like I was going to pass out or something from seven years of exhasperation.

Then, throw-tip-interception-knee.  And suddenly everything was fine.  Nothing even mattered anymore, because we had beaten ohio.  It was just a game, and a damn good one at that.  And if anything else happened the rest of that year - who cares?! - because Michigan beat Ohio, and everything else is just details.

This is pretty cool.  I think

This is pretty cool.  I think the crest/uniforms are pretty classy - like Euro-lite but simple.  Plus the nickname "Le Rouge" is a clever way to celebrate Detroit's French heritage.  I might show up at a few games with some Cass Tech alums I know.  Plus, love the soccer scarf.  I gotta get me one of them.

</i>Hey! You guys stole our

Hey!  You guys stole our 3-time WNBA champion team!   It led to such headlines as this.  ...But seriously, the year before they moved out, I was walking to a Pistons game and a guy was selling $0.50 Detroit Shock tickets, and something like $5.00 courtside seats.  Rediculous.

</i> Congrats to Mike Martin! A real

Congrats to Mike Martin!  A real Michigan Man.  I remember way back when (what I assumed to be) Lloyd Carr's recruiting staff was following him around my high school - it's great to see him do us proud in the NFL.  (CC Pride.)

</i>

I think there's an open tag somewhere (possibly in my non-existent signature?) because the italics thing has happend a few times before.  Will a </i> solve it?

EDIT:  FIXED.  And no longer a non-existent signature - basically, I just added a lot of "</i>"s to the HTML to close any possible open italics tags haha

You know, Notre Dame (YTND),

You know, Notre Dame (YTND), not Notre Dame (NTND).

EDIT:  Or maybe the Swedish metal band should be "YTND"?

This sounds great - I love

This sounds great - I love the history of the Michigan-Ohio rivalry.

If you really want to take it back to the beginning, the roots obviously run through the Toledo War (when the Michigan militia was quartered in Ann Arbor, and the Ohio militia in Columbus), and the leader of Michigan's Militia, "Boy Governor" Mason, who's still the youngest state governor in American history, and who also made the monumentous decision to move the University from a cramped location in Detroit to the spatious lands in Ann Arbor.  Supposedly the ragged Ohio militia came back saying "those damn men fight like Wolverines!"  Good stuff.

If you REALLY want to take it back (which I don't entirely recommend for a paper), the earliest cause predates the history of the United States by 26 years, when the Lord of Halifax commisioned John Mitchell to draw up a map of the British and French colonies, famously messing up the location of Toledo to Lake Erie, which led to Ohio incorrectly claiming the land when it became a state.  Honestly, the Michigan-Ohio rivalry has such a great history - and this is without even getting into football!

My drink tonight?  Anything

My drink tonight?  Anything available at the "Forget-your-troubles / end-of-year Block Party" on Greenwood Rd just south of campus (personally picked out some Grey Goose and Jack Daniels' Tennessee Honey Whisky) - does anyone older than I remember if Greenwood was still one of the major party streets when they graduated?

I'd love to help

I'd love to help Trey Burke, Mitch McGary, and the rest of the MBB Team get to Arlington!  Confuse the 'Bama offense with some 1-3-1 Zone.

For what it's worth

For what it's worth, I know [someone extremely close to the process], and that person said it was "Gamekeeper's Thumb", which I'm assuming is a term for a torn UCL, so this seems like a spot-on diagnosis.

[ED:BISB - Don't want to get anyone in trouble, so I edited out the person's exact relation to the rethumbening process. Sufficed to say that IF this post is accurate, the redacted person is easily close enough to make such a call.]

EDIT:  Thanks for the watchful edit, absolutely don't want to get anyone in trouble.
