I tend to dislike the state too, but I will say as a strength coach they do have a good reputation for strength training as there are a ton of good coaches, trainers, and training facilities like Westside Barbell. And, many of the kids that come out of OH have a better strength training background than kids from other states. During my undergrad in Connecticut three of my exercise science professors went to OSU. It was super annoying. |

For me it's football waaay more than any other sport. I have a hard time rooting for Ohio football under any circumstances, even if they are playing the SEC in a bowl game. It is rarely if ever in the best interest of UM for Ohio to ever win in football because we compete with them so much for everything that their victory does more harm than good in the long term even if it somehow helps UM get in a higher ranking. I still don't like Ohio for basketball, but way less so than football. And, I really don't care about any other sport other than a mild dislike. The only sport that I can say I'm emotionally invested in is football.
I will say that even though I hate them and almost always want them to lose, I do respect them and don't wish ill upon them unless they deserve it. Like, I don't want their players to get injured or anything. However, I do like to see them get punished by the NCAA when they do somthing wrong. That's about it for me. |

Yeah, it really does look fine, it's amazing after seeing the clips of the injury and knowing what he went through. He doesn't seem to be favoring it in any way. His injury was just 7 months ago I think. I broke my tib/fib when I was in high school and it took me a good year or so to feel fully healed. It's just a silly video, but that was enough to give me confidence he'll be fine next fall. |

I'm down with that. He seems like a quality player. He passes the eye test. Any idea why he seems a little lower on the recruiting rankings? I'd think a kid that projects to an all-conference type player would be a mid to high 4-star or in the mid 80s type range versus a 3-star around 78. |

If I were PSU I'd be more worried about the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast more than the Midwest as PSU has been good at recruiting PA, NY, NJ, MD, etc. But, with Rutgers and Maryland coming to the division and Michigan already setting up roots in VA, I'd be more concerned about UM and OSU taking their share of kids from the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast which has traditionally been PSU's areas. |

I hope PSU remains competitive because a good PSU is good for the B1G. I think Michigan will seperate themselves from the likes of PSU with recruiting over the next few years which should give us enough of a cushion once PSU gets off sanctions to remain ahead of them. But, nonetheless, I still hope PSU remains successful and puts together 7-9 win type seasons throughout their sanctions.
Not that I like any team in the B1G other than Michigan, but I've been to Beaver Stadium a number of times, have friends that live in State College, have a number of friends that went to PSU, and really enjoy the times I've spent there and just in general and like their fanbase. So, good for them. As long as they don't beat us I wish them the best, especially since they had good rivalry with OSU and beat them quite a few times through the 2000's, even when we couldn't beat them. |

First I will say that watching Brock come out on his own was amazing and seeing Barwis cry shows you how much he cares about his athletes and how much it really touched him, which is amazing. I have a lot of respect for anyone who has ever taken on a job of a college strength and conditioning coach because it is an extremely difficult job.
To clear up regarding some discussion on scientific principles I think there was some confusion there by Barwis between Wolff’s Law, Davis’s Law, and The General Adaptation Syndrome. Wolff’s Law is about the idea that bone remodels along the lines of the stress placed on it. And, although I think he could have been talking about bone remodeling I don’t think he really was. Davis’s Law basically states the same, but in regard to soft tissue remodeling. I’m still not sure he was referencing soft tissue remodeling either. I think he was really citing The General Adaptation Syndrome, which states that the body must be able to adapt and respond to the stresses placed upon it and does so by following a specific and predictable pattern, which would include all kinds of stress. This is the essence of what I think Barwis was actually referencing, but that’s my guess. Either way I think his apparatus and way he trained Brock was a very creative technique and brave of him to take on the challenge of something he knew probably little about. It reminded me of another video of a kid and trainer that is doing some amazing things so I thought I would share it. Regarding strength coaches, they come in all abilities and personality types. Granted a lot of football strength coaches tend to be the loud, in your face types, which may not be the most eloquent speakers and are better motivators, but that’s not always true. Jerry Martin from UCONN is someone that is more analytical and not very loud. Chris Doyle of Iowa is a guy that is a good motivator and can be loud, but is also a pretty analytical guy and quite well spoken. I know his programs and philosophies quite well as I worked for a guy in his coaching tree. If you really want to get a good idea of a strength coach that is a great presenter take a look at Martin Rooney. I can't imbed this video, so you have to follow the links, but it’s a great example. Each of them has a weakness. I think you want a complete back that can run between the tackles, run with toughness, has decent enough speed to break away, and can also make plays in the open field. I think guys like Chris Perry and Tim Biakabutuka were both that sort of guys...6'0" 215-220ish. Fitz is probably a little on the shiftier side and Green is probably a little on the run-you-over side, a little mix of the two would be best I think. A good college guy I can think of is TJ Yeldon and in the pros right now Adiran Peterson both of which are around the same 6'1" 215ish in size and can do all those things. |

I agree their interior defensive line is a weakness. They won't be as good as they were last year or the year before. But they still have good linebackers, a good secondary, and at least one good defensive end. I'm not comparing them to Alabama. I just think that's enough to be one of the better defenses in the B1G. You don't think so? I mean what B1G defense doesn't have a weakness? |

Is it the back 7 or front 7? I guess it's all in how you look at. I see what you're saying, but I think the effectiveness of the linebackers and Rush at end I think is enough to make them a quality defense. I still see them as one of the top defenses in the conference which will keep them in games. The question is will they win those close games? |

They actually have the seniors do a draft and pick players for their respective teams. I'd rather see the #1 offense go against the #1 defense but oh well. |

Agreed, we need him this year. Having Gordan, Taylor, and Countess, all guys that have at least a year of starting duty around him should help too so all he really needs to do is play. Then, hopefully he can develop into a real leader the following year. |

Well, he's younger so he is a year behind them, Apple and Conley are quite highly ranked, even higher than Webb, and Burrows is just a few spots behind him the ESPN 150, and they are all a little taller and bigger (minus Conley who is only taller), which is sort of why I was surprised he wanted to go there in the first place. |
