Do you ACTUALLY believe what you wrote is true?

Says the guy who watched the

Says the guy who watched the game on his couch, to a bunch of kids who have been slaving away for years for the chance to duke that game out on tv for free. Grow up. It's a football game played by college students.

Uhhhhmmmm....

Might be time to lay off the football recruiting news a little bit...

The players who got the

The players who got the most/best tail at Michigan were baseball players and hockey players, by a wide margin. (edit: At least from what I saw/who I knew/while I was there).

Give 1 coin each to the 2

Give 1 coin each to the 2 youngest pirates.

If the eldest pirate gets killed, then the next oldest pirate only needs 1 more pirate to vote on his side for the plan to pass, so all he would do is make some deal with the 3rd-oldest pirate to split the coins between them and screw the two youngest pirates. So since the death of the eldest pirate means 0 gold for the 2 youngest, all he has to do is give them a coin each and they will be better off agreeing with the plan.

Maybe for 100m but not so

Maybe for 100m but not so much for 100 yards

Are we sure that that's

Are we sure that that's actually a picture of Jeremy Jackson? I know that he is relatively light-skinned but the player in the picture above looks pretty caucasian to me.

Bears fan here

I would love if the Bears traded their 2nd and 3rd picks to get a second 1st rounder and use both of them on tackles. The OL situation is so bad that just getting one stud probably won't be enough to solidify the line going forward. Plus the bears mess up so often with their early/mid round picks that I'd much prefer this situation over taking a stab at ANOTHER mediocre safety or corner or backer...

Not that this will ever happen.

You having a rough morning, man? Need a hug?

Yeah I don't quite get the

Yeah I don't quite get the rabble rabble either. Would anybody really be all that upset if he transitioned to receiver in the pro's and had a nice career as a speedster wideout? I sure as hell would prefer that to seeing him potentially wash out as a backup quarterback.

Regardless of whether the

Regardless of whether the alumni's treatment of the program during the RR era was fair or not (clearly commentators are split on this), it gives me the warm fuzzies now that everybody seems to be significantly more "all in" than they have in recent history. It reminds me of the good vibes I felt when I first enrolled (fall of 2006).

You realize that the Tribune normally slobs on ND's knob almost as much as NBC does, right?

I have to agree with

I have to agree with blueheron here. This entire discussion is about assigning blame for a tragedy. If we're actually going to have a reasonable conversation about this, I think that most of the board members here are mature enough to make dispassionate arguments in support of however they feel. How could we have a discussion that aims to fairly assign blame when certain points of view are forbidden because they are "too soon"?

As others have said, a lot of people had to make mistakes in order for this situation to transpire. I agree with blueheron that one of those people is the unfortunate kid who died, and while you may think that it's "too soon" for me to say that, that's not the way I feel.

That was

One rule of thumb that has

One rule of thumb that has worked out for me is to use offensive line quality as a tiebreaker when I'm torn between two players. I also pay attention to the top-flight offensive tackle rookies because teams often see a great increase in production across the board when they take somebody instant-impact guys like Long or Thomas.

How about some LINEBACKERS!

How about some LINEBACKERS! We could use a few of those.

Best case scenario:

Travis Beckum? If he were to assume a TE/H-back role.

I really am having a hard

I really am having a hard time wrapping my head around this "not being in shape" thing. Is this term relative? I have got to imagine that anybody on a D1 football team --- and very much especially the starters --- have to be working out daily just as a matter of course. If the workouts aren't scheduled at school, they're alongside teammates who are doing it themselves, or communicating with their teammates remotely who are themselves discussing the workouts that they've been doing. Wouldn't anybody in this situation (who didn't have other issues going on) just be working out as well because that's such an ingrained norm of a D1 football team, especially one with Mike Barwis?

The only thing I can think of is that it must be really difficult to keep up a near-Barwis-like intensity while players are away from AA. Maybe they've been lifting on their own and running a few miles a day, which would be enough to keep a normal person in shape, but obviously isn't going to prepare them for the rigors of a 60 minute football game. Otherwise..... if "not being in shape" means that they've literally been sitting on their asses and pigging out.... well, then I'm surprised that these players even earned scholarships in the first place.

Can anybody illuminate this for me?

EDIT: I just realized that this is tangental to most of the rest of the discussion here in regards to the presser. Nonetheless, I'd still like to hear what you guys think.

He had a good coverage play a minute ago where he got flagged for PI and then it got waived off. The way the Jaws and those guys were talking, it sounds like their secondary is pretty decimated, so who knows? Maybe Dutch will stick around on their squad.

I'm pretty sure that if he

I'm pretty sure that if he couldn't make the necessary NFL level throws, he wouldn't have been taken with the 1st overall pick in the entire draft. You can't accurately predict how his shoulder will hold up, and you can't know how he'll operate under pressure in an NFL stadium until he gets there, but the one thing that the GMs can evaluate is which throws he can make, and he made every single one at his pro day, including the one that was dropped.

I have a hard time stomaching your rebuke considering that your avatar says "Ohio Sucks Balls." I pray to God that you suck some balls at some point in your life, and you get to see just what it's like to be the state of Ohio. For shame...

I think I remember reading

I think I remember reading somewhere that practice squad players get paid a base rate per week, around $5k. But I'm not sure if that's only during the season or over the whole year, or what happens to his original contract if he get placed on the practice squad.

I don't think I've ever heard

I don't think I've ever heard a bad word about this kid. Rock on, Denard.

When the top-tier University

When the top-tier University in a state becomes more selective, it drives a lot of strong students to the second-best school and improves its reputation and value of the degree. This is happening in my home state to U-Illinois and Illinois State, and it will probably happen in this state with MSU. So it's not like in-staters are totally SOL -- as much as we like to make fun of little brother, an MSU degree is still worth more than 80-95% of college degrees in this country.

(edit) I had more stuff written down here, but it was kind of a non sequitor so I'll just toss it

It's significantly more

It's significantly more difficult to get admitted into the University as an out-of-stater than as an in-stater, so I think that this is likely. If U-M eliminated any sort of quota or minimum for in-state students, you would see a much larger population of students from outside of the state. But as a public University there is an obligation to serve the state, so we probably won't see this anytime soon.

Things seem to be in a pretty good balance right now so I doubt that Mary Sue is going to make a push in either direction.

It's going to be fascinating

It's going to be fascinating to see who redshirts this fall and who sees the field.

Whenever I see arguments like

Whenever I see arguments like this, I always feel like the journalists are picking the wrong people to use as evidence to support their point. When Whitlock uses Bush as an example, it's easy for the reader to say "Wait a minute, he's making high 7 figures in the NFL, so he probably should have just had a little patience."

Wouldn't it be better to bring up the players who are on the two-deep (therefore are undeniably providing benefit to the university in on-field performance), yet have very little chance of capitalizing on those talents in the pros? I'm talking about your kickers, punters, and 5'10 centers, middle linebackers, and spread-option quarterbacks. For these people, you could easily make the argument of their being undercompensated for a great service that they provide to their schools/fanbases/etc, minus the ability to cash in on it afterwards.

But Reggie Bush as Kunta Kinte? Please. The man just won a Super Bowl.

I really don't understand why

I really don't understand why you're getting negged for this. During my 4 years at Michigan I could easily name at least three dozen players who I either saw drinking while underage or drank with personally while they were underage, whether at frat houses or the bar. I can also name a few who like to regularly smoke marijuana with people I know.

Do some posters here really think that Michigan football players don't do these things? Trust me, this happens everywhere. I'm not saying every player (not even close), but it happens in every program in the country.
