Might be time to lay off the football recruiting news a little bit...

1 year 24 weeks ago The players who got the

The players who got the most/best tail at Michigan were baseball players and hockey players, by a wide margin. (edit: At least from what I saw/who I knew/while I was there).

1 year 24 weeks ago Give 1 coin each to the 2

Give 1 coin each to the 2 youngest pirates.

If the eldest pirate gets killed, then the next oldest pirate only needs 1 more pirate to vote on his side for the plan to pass, so all he would do is make some deal with the 3rd-oldest pirate to split the coins between them and screw the two youngest pirates. So since the death of the eldest pirate means 0 gold for the 2 youngest, all he has to do is give them a coin each and they will be better off agreeing with the plan.

1 year 38 weeks ago Are we sure that that's

Are we sure that that's actually a picture of Jeremy Jackson? I know that he is relatively light-skinned but the player in the picture above looks pretty caucasian to me.

2 years 4 weeks ago Bears fan here

I would love if the Bears traded their 2nd and 3rd picks to get a second 1st rounder and use both of them on tackles. The OL situation is so bad that just getting one stud probably won't be enough to solidify the line going forward. Plus the bears mess up so often with their early/mid round picks that I'd much prefer this situation over taking a stab at ANOTHER mediocre safety or corner or backer...

Not that this will ever happen.

You having a rough morning, man? Need a hug?

2 years 5 weeks ago Yeah I don't quite get the

Yeah I don't quite get the rabble rabble either. Would anybody really be all that upset if he transitioned to receiver in the pro's and had a nice career as a speedster wideout? I sure as hell would prefer that to seeing him potentially wash out as a backup quarterback.

2 years 5 weeks ago Regardless of whether the

Regardless of whether the alumni's treatment of the program during the RR era was fair or not (clearly commentators are split on this), it gives me the warm fuzzies now that everybody seems to be significantly more "all in" than they have in recent history. It reminds me of the good vibes I felt when I first enrolled (fall of 2006).

"The only purpose of this post is to poke fun at the chicago tribune for their great investigative journalism"

You realize that the Tribune normally slobs on ND's knob almost as much as NBC does, right?

2 years 29 weeks ago I have to agree with

I have to agree with blueheron here. This entire discussion is about assigning blame for a tragedy. If we're actually going to have a reasonable conversation about this, I think that most of the board members here are mature enough to make dispassionate arguments in support of however they feel. How could we have a discussion that aims to fairly assign blame when certain points of view are forbidden because they are "too soon"?

As others have said, a lot of people had to make mistakes in order for this situation to transpire. I agree with blueheron that one of those people is the unfortunate kid who died, and while you may think that it's "too soon" for me to say that, that's not the way I feel.

2 years 38 weeks ago Not to delve into nutrition

Not to delve into nutrition topics on a college football blog, but succeeding with a diet like this doesn't have to do with portion control, it has to do with supplanting nutrients that don't fulfill your diet goals with ones that do. If you're hungry, just eat more protein. You can eat chicken breast, tuna, and eggs until you explode and you'll still lose weight.

2 years 38 weeks ago One rule of thumb that has

One rule of thumb that has worked out for me is to use offensive line quality as a tiebreaker when I'm torn between two players. I also pay attention to the top-flight offensive tackle rookies because teams often see a great increase in production across the board when they take somebody instant-impact guys like Long or Thomas.

He seems like a guy who will get a few touches here and there in most games, but will go hog wild in 1-2 games against teams with poor interior run defense to the tune of 100+ yards.

2 years 40 weeks ago Best case scenario:

Travis Beckum? If he were to assume a TE/H-back role.

2 years 40 weeks ago I really am having a hard

I really am having a hard time wrapping my head around this "not being in shape" thing. Is this term relative? I have got to imagine that anybody on a D1 football team --- and very much especially the starters --- have to be working out daily just as a matter of course. If the workouts aren't scheduled at school, they're alongside teammates who are doing it themselves, or communicating with their teammates remotely who are themselves discussing the workouts that they've been doing. Wouldn't anybody in this situation (who didn't have other issues going on) just be working out as well because that's such an ingrained norm of a D1 football team, especially one with Mike Barwis?

The only thing I can think of is that it must be really difficult to keep up a near-Barwis-like intensity while players are away from AA. Maybe they've been lifting on their own and running a few miles a day, which would be enough to keep a normal person in shape, but obviously isn't going to prepare them for the rigors of a 60 minute football game. Otherwise..... if "not being in shape" means that they've literally been sitting on their asses and pigging out.... well, then I'm surprised that these players even earned scholarships in the first place.

Can anybody illuminate this for me?

EDIT: I just realized that this is tangental to most of the rest of the discussion here in regards to the presser. Nonetheless, I'd still like to hear what you guys think.

2 years 40 weeks ago He had a good coverage play a

He had a good coverage play a minute ago where he got flagged for PI and then it got waived off. The way the Jaws and those guys were talking, it sounds like their secondary is pretty decimated, so who knows? Maybe Dutch will stick around on their squad.

2 years 42 weeks ago I'm pretty sure that if he

I'm pretty sure that if he couldn't make the necessary NFL level throws, he wouldn't have been taken with the 1st overall pick in the entire draft. You can't accurately predict how his shoulder will hold up, and you can't know how he'll operate under pressure in an NFL stadium until he gets there, but the one thing that the GMs can evaluate is which throws he can make, and he made every single one at his pro day, including the one that was dropped.

2 years 43 weeks ago I really like the majority of

I really like the majority of the players that we're recruiting or have picked up this year. If RR does okay this year and manages to stick around, I think this class will do big things for him.
