Their attendance numbers aren't terrible. It may look worse due to not filling a bigger arena. If they're not making money, they certainly aren't wasting as much as the most of their other sports, of which they have many. OSU fields the most varsity teams in the nation. So that might answer the "Why?" question. Hint: It's the same reason for saying "THE Ohio State University."

I can actually summarize my thoughts with a football analogy. Every September we seem to hear, "If you have two quarterbacks, you have no quarterback." Ted ending up with both of them just felt too messy and it cheapened both relationships to me.
A touch of hyperbole, sure. And I'm not saying they're not excellent players. But you can't reasonably expect a 32% shooting team to just go out and do that.
Come on, why is it so hard to let people hold on to the irrational belief that Earth reaching an arbitrary point on its revolution around the Sun has some sort of impact on the outcome of Michigan sporting events?
Once I read "3 downs instead of 4 or having to go 15 yards for a first down instead of 10" in the first e-mail I fully expected to see a "/s" at the end.
Biggest play of the year and that's what they come up with? A play that had limited options and didn't create any mismatches or try to get the defense out of position. It was just lazy.

All towns have them and they are easy to spot when a star prospect comes on the scene. They have no affiliation or favorite team. They all look the same: baseball cap, sunglasses, goatee, hoodie under a windbreaker and pale jeans; age 45-60. They're generally friendly until you start talking to them and you realize they are insane. They think they know everything about football so they try to be a part of the process so they can feel important. And they are telling anybody who will listen, "I don't why he would go to Michigan when they're gonna fire that coach of theirs."
The NCAA makes no distinction between paid vs. unpaid. Volunteers who give instruction are considered coaches. Yes, in the grand scheme of things it's not big deal. If it is a secondary violation I imagine compliance has already reported it to the NCAA and nothing will come of it, but you still don't want to make it a habit.

An athletics department staff member must count against coaching limits as soon as the individual participates (in any manner) in the coaching of the intercollegiate team in practice, games or organized activities directly related to that sport, including any organized staff activity directly related to the sport.

An institution may use or arrange for a temporary consultant to provide in-service training for the coaching staff, but no interaction with student-athletes is permitted unless the individual is counted against the applicable coaching limits. An outside consultant may not be involved in any on- or off-field or on- or off-court coaching activities
I didn't see him as much this past year, but did his freshman year and I was very impressed, mostly from watching him play basketball. I've never seen somebody that big, not to mention young, have such good hands, feet and the smarts to go with it. I doubt the height and weight unless he's really grown and slimmed down since the state chanpionship game. 6-5, 290 seems more realistic to me. He's very skilled, but I don't think he's fast enough to stay at TE. Should be fun to watch him develop more.
Everbody has different tastes so nobody will ever be completely satisfied. It really is a no-win job. I try to just accept it, HOWEVA, I get sick of the cliches. If I wanted to hear "don't stop believin" and "sweet caroline" I would go to a bar.
My biggest gripe is timing. I will never forget losing and hearing "Apache." Why in the hell would I want to "jump on it, jump on it." when we are LOSING?
Normally saying a high schooler is NFL ready is complete insanity, but Adam Schefter tweeted a couple weeks ago an NFL GM told him they would draft Clowney right now.
I had my worst output of the season to lose in the finals. The three players that I rode to the championship match combined for less than 3 points, including the goose egg from an injured Andre Johnson.
I'm not sure a new DC or entire defensive staff would be the answer if they don't have complete control of the scheme and personel. The responsibility of not having an identity on defense has to fall on RR, even if he's just an offensive guru.
I have always been on RR's side but after each game I get closer to saying "It's just not gonna work out."
