You're first assumption is where this entire argument goes wrong. You assume (or at least base the argument on) the fact that there has been an increaes in pay-to-play scandals. These types of scandals would not go away if the NCAA started paying them. Say there's a kid choosing between Auburn, UM, and OSU and they get 30k to play at either school. There is still no incentive to keep, say, an OSU booster from throwing 30k more in the mix for him to go to that school. The kid doesn't care that he gets a stipend, he's still getting offered more money to play somewhere else. Obviously, I am assuming all athletes are greedy--which they aren't, but to think that paying players each year will get rid of pay-to-play scandals is borderline ridiculous. And I agree with a previous post--if you pay them, take away their free tuition. |

I hadn't really thought of this before, but you bring up a good point about the Big East. Everyone refuses to play defense. When Rich Rod was at WVU playing against the likes of good Rutgers and Louisville teams, the defense in those games were a joke. Rutgers tried a little. I think everyone chalked it up to amazing offenses from RR and Bobby Petrino. Maybe we were wrong. |

While I also have hope for the future, this was the first game I started to question Rich Rod. I also expected a loss, but there were multiple times when they ran on first down for little or no gain, ran the exact same play for little or no gain, and then were forced into 3rd and long. If not for Forcier and the pass game, it would have been much uglier. |

I'm listening to the BB audio. What did Evan Turner say to Zack Novak? War Jim Harbaugh. |
| 2 years 30 weeks ago | OSU |
The fact is that this was only one game. If Rich Rod goes out and beats OSU this year, none of this will even matter. Granted, that probably won't happen, but the point is is that all of this criticism is too soon. I can't say I'm too surprised by this, having grown up a M fan and seeing quick judgment after each and every game. But come on people. I said it in the live blog on Saturday and I'll say it again: "Raise your hand if you thought M would be playing in a BCS bowl this year? Anyone?" If you were expecting 9-12 wins after a 3 win season just a year ago, you're not being rational. So what if Paul Johnson did it? Two different teams, with different players, playing different systems, in different conferences, in different years. |

I just figured that the Machine that is the NCAA would regulate that sort of thing even more than the NFL. My mistake. |

If he's receiving treatment for an injury, doesn't he have to be listed on the injury report? He wasn't listed on the report, so I'm not sure what you mentioned is a possibilty. I could be wrong though. |
| 2 years 33 weeks ago | Michigan D |
I'm kind of surprised it hasn't been mentioned, but does anyone think Greg Robinson has an advantage when it comes to facing Dantonio? He played two games against Dantonio at Syracuse and had decent success considering the crappy teams he had at Cuse. He was 0-2, but only allowed 22 points and 17 points in '05 and '06 respectively. It may be a long shot, but I don't think it hurts. |

Is there anywhere in particular you watch games that are not nationally televised (i.e. BTN)? Let me know. I'm in the Lou as well and I'm sure my wife would love it if I didn't drag her along to the bars to watch games with me. |

Brian clearly avoided (at least from what I could tell from skimming his post) the issue of Armando Allen stepping out of bounds. I think this was Weis' biggest beef with the officiating. Now, personally, I think Allen did step out of bounds, but would have liked to see Brian address it. That being said, Charlie is clearly pissed they lost the game and that's what this boils down to. He knows his job is on the line and that, ultimately, they probably should have won the game. |
