Whoooooo!

Old Uni's

I don't know if you recognize the irony or not, but that picture is from 2008 or earlier (from the club days). Nike uniform, Warrior gloves (I always liked the gloves with the wings)

Great Win

I was there in person, and a few things stood out:

1. McCormack is a force. Four goals, with a nice mix of dodges and finishes on the crease.

2. Kyle Jackson didn't have a huge game, but he had a really good goal. I couldn't see very well as I was on the other end, but it looked like he caught the ball on the crease with his back turned (over the shoulder), then turned and scored. He also had a good dodging goal as well after a half box fake

3. Logan settled down in net and then stood on his head for a few. Wasn't challenged much in the second

4. Faceoffs were once again dominated by Michigan. The wings looked better this year. Lott won nearly every clamp, still needs to work on controlling the ball. BU was bad last year and will be bad again, so caveat applied

5. BU just didn't have the horses to stay even in the second half. There were some back-breaking runs after the first half was largely even. I should note that UM hit FIVE pipes in the first ten minutes. A few more of those fall and this wouldn't have been close the whole way through

Michigan looks to be moving up another tier. They have to this year, with the Big Ten schedule they have to play. I think 5-6 wins may be might still be where my expectations are, even with the improvement I saw today.

Lines

I'm surprised they didn't try to differentiate between the men's and women's lines. It's confusing for everybody: fans, players, officials, coaches.

Lott

I'll co-sign on Brad Lott as MVP

Coach from the East...

...Ben DeLuca?

Have to agree

OSU is not closing out games very well this year, but they are still dangerous. They got a lot closer to JHU and Penn St. than we did, and took UMass to OT (UMass beat PSU today).

However, Cornell did just beat Virginia and Yale in consecutive weeks, so they are not quite dead themselves. It's the same old story: tough to infer things from common opponents.

Great win

This puts us in a good position for the ECAC tourney, with a possible NCAA bid on the line

Road loss

I'm wondering if this team will struggle disproportionately on the road. Lot's of young guys still. Also, remember they are practicing in Oosterbaan now and it's a big switch to be outside. North Carolina is actually pretty cold right now.

Tough loss, recalibrate expectations again.

Halftime

They had "1st" on the scoreboard...I thought it was a decently high-scoring first quarter...

El Presidente

This guy's name is Nido Quidein?

stats

where my stats at??!?!

so close...

...and yet so far.

Zonino coming into his own. I can see him matching Logan's heroics from last year.

Let's keep that momentum going!

Who's the guy taking a shot

Who's the guy taking a shot on goal at the end of the game? classy...

Announcers

Apparently there's no score between Cornell and...Hah-bert? Where did they find this guy?

Should probably stop complaining about the free, live feed though...

Really poor shot selection

Really poor shot selection here...same problem against Detroit. Patience will come with experience, I hope.

The UM club lacrosse team

The UM club lacrosse team used to roll out the club dance team (club cheerleaders?) at halftime...similar results

DANCE TEAM!

WHOOOOO

Great win!

Rocky at times, wish the shooting percentage was better, but can't ever complain about a W!

BOOM Kyle Jackson with the OT winner!
Goalie play Seems to me we should be taking more advantage of their freshman goalie...
TempoFree Lax

Tim will like the free possessions generated by Lott

Brad Lott playing

Good sign for UM

edit: he's 3-4 already (one violation by Det?)

I was planning to...

I was on my way when I realized it would be a good idea to call ahead...of course it was sold out.

I don't know what I was thinking, not buying a ticket in advance. I was at the last Ultimate Soccer game and it was packed...

Scrimmages Did anyone make it out for the scrimmages last weekend? I hear that we "beat" Marquette and "lost" to Denison. Let's get some over-reactionary analysis of preseason scrimmages out there!
I thought the same thing

It would be a shame to play Hopkins in Oosterbaan. Maybe they'll make an exception and open up Glick? I've never been inside - could it accomodate a game?

St. Joe's

I should also point out we played St. Joseph's in fall ball in 2011. Lost 9-5 (unofficially)

Tough schedule

Unfortunately I see us holding steady with last year's results. The schedule is a bit tougher, and the recruiting defensive cavalry has not yet arrived. Three wins is probably the ceiling.

However, I am excited to see some of the instant impact freshman. Been hearing good things about Kyle Jackson in the midfield. I think WolvinLA2 is correct also that Gerald Logan may be a (slight) upgrade in goal.

Attendance at the OSU game was horrendous last year due to crappy weather (it was not great for the football game either). Here's hoping we get a strong turnout this year. Anyone else surprise OSU is coming back to AA?

Here's this year's opponents, arranged by end of year power ranking from 2011 (Laxpower). I've also included last year's result in parentheses, if applicable:

2 Loyola (L 8-15)

5 Denver (L 5-17)

10 Hopkins

12 Colgate

19 OSU (L 9-12)

20 PSU (L 9-16)

23 Fairfield

26 Army

33 Delaware (L 7-11)

35 Air Force (L 6-15)

37 Hobart

39 Bellarmine (L 9-13)

50 St. Joe's

52 Detroit (L 9-13)

NR High Point

Last year I thought Detroit was a huge missed opportunity, and ditto for Bellarmine. OSU was definitely in reach as well. I see us picking off 3 of the bottom 5 and maybe giving another 2 or 3 teams a run for their money. Seems to be the consensus here.

Stall warning

As a couple of people have alluded to, but not said explicitly, if there is no attempt by the defense to put pressure on the ball, the officials should not/will not put the stall warning on. You are not considered to be stalling if the defense is not trying to take the ball away.

For the record, I am against the addition of a shot clock in any form. I think you are attacking the wrong facet of the game with shot clock if your goal is to speed up play. They need to determine how to discourage substitutions on the fly following a change of possession and/or reduce the "specialization" of player personnel. This will reduce or eliminate the need to send the ball around the horn three times while a team sets up their offense.

Beveled Guilt

HTTV is in and of itself a worthy cause...however, now that that number has been blown out of the water, maybe think about kicking in a little something to the general fund...

they were in it

We do seem to be having trouble closing out games in the second half. Maybe too many young guys out there?

Clearing

The defense this year is pretty patchwork - even a couple of position switches. I'm guessing that the stick skills are just not quite there yet. I think also the Weiss will be an upgrade in the clearing department.

long poles facing off

anybody who was there who can comment on the long poles facing off for us? with greiner out that looks like it may a wrinkle we'll throw in. seems they got worked over pretty good though, 10-27.

doug - i think we've tried

doug - i think we've tried that particular experiment

Faceoffs

I'm late to the party, not at the game. Where is Brian Greiner? Injured?

TEAM ONE VICTORY ONE!
Bad sub there Smart play by Mercer. Thanks for the updates; I'm back
Sideline reporting aside... These guys are providing a great (free) service. Consider dropping something in the tip jar!
Gotta go... I'll be mobile only shortly. Can you guys continue with updates? Thank you!
6-1

at the half

cowbell

good to hear it, but someone needs to practice at home...

good lord

one of the longest handshake lines i've seen.

I thought Laxx.tv did a great job. Did have some lag in the second half feed, but can't beat the price.

JU scores

dodger from behind feeds the crease, his defender couldn't find the ball. JU goes off stick shoulder for the win.

Good effort by blue today, but that one hurts

JU wins faceoff gains first OT possession...
Willie Steenland ties the game!

8-8!

Greiner wins the ensuing faceoff forward, but time runs out....

OT!

shot chased down by JU

Michigan ride gets it back though!

Michigan takes it back!
