Peppers at 10, which seems low.

Personally I would rather keep pep off the rb rotation unless absolutely needed for a burst. If rb production improves may not need pep there.

This is exactly what I'm talking about Trust. As good as the DL has played the strength might still be the secondary.
You got Jourdan Lewis, whos All American caliber, Peppers, the consistently solid Jarrod Wilson, and lengthy improving corners opposite in Clark, Stribling, Dymonte whos improving and Delano.
What other secondary would you want in the country to leave on islands in the entire country besides ours? I mean they have former QB as a WR so their WR's arent exactly lighting the world on fire but we don't put more in the box against their Heisman candidate running back?
If Morgan is too slow to react and Bolden doesn't react well, then have them shoot gaps and cause havoc in the backfield. At worst take up space so OSU offense has less space to work with and be more uncomfortable, especially when the DL is depleted.
I was at that game and it just seemed like OSU offense kept on chipping away and killing momentum and soon enough, fatigue either kicks in and we get hit by a deep throw.

I honestly feel much better after seeing in the breakdown that he runs a similar defense to what we had ran this past regular season.
I think the most important upgrade in defense in this hire that I hope to see and that I have been reading about is how agressive he is with this defense and that he can bring blitzes from anywhere.
IMHO, Even with a good/great defense this year, it seemed all too often that the defense was always trying to react to what the opposing offense is trying to do instead of attacking. It almost seemed the like the defense wanted to line up and see if the other team can beat them straight up instead of being agressive, attacking to make things happen.
Maybe thats why our turnovers are lacking, the pressure is there against talent inferior teams, but with talent rich teams, creativity in pressure is a must. I don't know maybe Im looking at the wrong thing or maybe the talent at LBs is hamstringing the defense in what it can do but it seemed like Mattison often brought extra peeps off the edge like Kovacs/Jake Ryan instead of hoping our DL wins one on one.
Maybe I was spoiled growing up watching Jim Johnson's eagle defense, but I hope to see a defense where athletic players are blitzing the crap out of the offense and the other team's offense will have to react to our defense.

Probably have to, since both Jake butt and Jake rudock are there.

What I'm hoping for after reading this, is Michigan's CB's getting all up in the face of MSU's WRs so they dont have free release and because of that Connor Cook isn't going to be able to make quick decisions and dink and dunk passes. Also want to see a lot living in the MSU backfield by the DL, sacks, hits, hurries, and at best for them balls thrown out of bounds because of the pressure.
I think the front 7 will neutralize any sort of running game since our run D is a strength and almost every RB Michigan played has had a bad game against Michigan front 7. And their OL is banged up to boot.
Hopefully our offense keeps improving and gelling and with basically having 3 offensive coordinator I'm excited. Cant wait till gameday

Ryan would have played Ojemudia's position, didn't he play something similar to begin his career?
From the games it seems he has a knack for getting to the quarterback and making plays in the backfield with his hand on the ground.
I think the last coaching staff probably put him in the middle since best players play but I always thought he was a terror especially with his JMFR hair flow days.

Not that I agree with it but.... its a Jabrill vs OL.

I like how on Kareem's Rival's page it says he is commited and recruited by Stan Drayton, the Stan Drayton that shafted Mike Weber thats not even there anymore
|41 weeks 6 days ago||Personally think this game||
Personally think this game falls on the OL and the RB's especially Smith. Northwestern's defense seems really quick and anything to the outside seems like a TFL waiting to happen.
If their CBs are as good as this says and Rudock being a bit shaky at QB, I think power manballing might be the way to neutralize their speed to the edges by going straight at them hat on a hat, especially if their DL isn't standout.
But if OL gets blown up at the line of scrimmage I will be remembering shades of Utah all over again.

Oh man that double fake TE pass was beautiful... after watching M football for the last decade plus I was worried that we had no bag of tricks and then seeing that, I am quickly reminded that.... Harbaugh

Smith is what we know he is. Good last game aside he's been running like that since he arrived. That long TD run Isaac had he cut back and used the lineman to breakaway on that run. Smith probably would have ran into the defender and try to knock him over. Isaac not that great at pass blocking though

|45 weeks 4 days ago||Honestly with our defense, I||
Honestly with our defense, I would rather face a good pro style team like MSU than a good spread team. I feel our guys are big but not necessarily quick so we might have good enough beef to match up well with MSU.
Also since we have quality coaching now, it is still reasonable to expect improvement week to week and good game planning that might make a difference especially since theres over a month worth of games and practices left before the MSU game. And with home field advantage in a rivalry game, we should definitely have a shot.
But I also agree with the other posters that Drake Johnson will likely be key if we are to win. We are going to need speed to the outside if there is a chance to win, running up the gut with Smith is not the answer with MSU even if Smith is improved since they always double A gapping, their CBs with their grabby defense and the currently shaky passing of Rudock is not going to help as of now either.
Will Michigan win? not sure, but does Michigan have a chance? Hail Yes

The accountabliity is refreshing, instead of the typical, we have to coach better, play harder, tougher etc etc. Harbaugh tells it like it is, this is what we did wrong and we are going to improve upon it.
|46 weeks 2 days ago||#3 is the most damning. Why||
#3 is the most damning. Why wouldn't you run behind a gigantic dude and use him as an obstacle? Even if lineman wasn't going to block well he could at least get in the way.
|46 weeks 5 days ago||Man it's almost always||
Man it's almost always Smith's fault, no vision and he doesn't follow the lead blocks, On a play like that you always follow the FB which is Kerridge with another OL blocking and run it to the outside.
If the play turned out well here is what would have happened, he would have gotten about 2 yards for the first down if he followed his blocks like he's supposed to. If it was Drake Johnson, that might have been a touchdown or a long gain since most of Utah's defenders inside and two lead blockers on the outside.
|46 weeks 5 days ago||After the last few years, I||
After the last few years, I can imagine why our receivers would be shocked to see a deep ball thrown their way.
When was the last time Michigan has completed a pass over 30 yards in the air?
OL pass pro looks fairly solid so I'm hopeful a little more work in practice going deep will help going further in the season
|46 weeks 5 days ago||The hesitation before running||
The hesitation before running into a giant pile doesn't help either. Almost like no RB instincts. The only difference is that Booker had proven himself to be a good RB throughout last year. And with smith. It's more of the same, until Drake Johnson takes over.

You mean another Smith run up the middle? and another?
|46 weeks 6 days ago||That Darboh throw looked like||
That Darboh throw looked like he could have adjusted as well. WRs need to help out the QB, especially when we have no running game and they stack the box and blitz.
What happened to Drake Harris? Wasn't he supposed to be a Co starter?
|46 weeks 6 days ago||Smith played terrible, ran||
Smith played terrible, ran hard, played terrible. missed holes, indecision, dropping the easiest pass he's ever gonna get for a first down.
He looked exactly the same as he did last year.
|46 weeks 6 days ago||Agreed. That screen pass that||
Agreed. That screen pass that the defense read and reacted was a thing of beauty right before halftime. Seen way too many times our defense would let that go for 15 yards down the sidelines.
|46 weeks 6 days ago||Except Drake Johnson, maybe||
Except Drake Johnson, maybe can't always count on the OL to make things happen for you and have a RB that can make something happen for himself instead of running into a wall of defenders. I'm not even that mad about Smith not being able to bounce it outside anyways since he's probably too slow to take advantage of that.
I just want Drake to hurry up and get better
|46 weeks 6 days ago||Is anybody else just tired of||
Is anybody else just tired of seeing Deveon smith as running back? I am not saying he doesn't run hard by any means, because he definitely does, but seriously though. He always seems to hesistate and he's nowhere near quick enough to hesistate and get away with it, especially against Utah with this OL.
I can't wait for Drake Johnson to get back, Ty Isaac looked even slower than Smith and I didn't even think that was possible.
Put in Karan Higdon or somebody or Jabrill please.
