He's a high school coach. A big part of his job is to help his kids get scholarships to the school of their choosing, even when that school is OSU.
The homerism blinders are strong here....

"Having a great coach doesn't mean that our 4-star players will all of a sudden be better than other schools' 3-star players just because."
That is definitely true; however a randomly chosen player who was a 4star recruit is quite likely to have a higher physical ceiling than a randomly chosen player who was a 3star recruit. Recruiting rankings are not all-important, but they aren't insignificant either. We shouldn't expect guys to reach their ceilings overnight, but we should expect elite coaching to speed that process significantly.
Another thing that's important to remember is that it makes a difference as a freshman practicing with upperclassman who have never had a great season vs. practicing with upperclassmen who know what it feels like and what it takes to win games.
I agree with most of your post FWIW, just wanted to get specific on something that isn't strictly either/or.

Haha, I wonder how much that quote is based on what he expects of Wagner vs. knowing that Beilein like to focus on a player's shot and defense in year 1 and then creating shots for themselves and others in year 2. Of course it's the former, but the thought is amusing.

there's a difference between a single 6-7 season after a decade of excellence vs a 5-7 season after... whatever this has been
a single down year doesn't impact your recruiting, player development, team morale, expectations, etc etc in the same way that sustained mediocrity does

Advocating for our football coach's brother in law to be fired from his job is probably not the classiest move. The post was informative & entertaining otherwise.

The reason you see linemen going high is because of the amount of dropoff between #1 and #2.

Coach Heck is a pretty good receivers coach. Don't forget that this was Funchess's first full season ever as a wide receiver. I think people are going to be surprised when he gets to the NFL and we all get to see just why his stock was so high.

stealing deprives the owner of the original. copying does not.
equating copying with stealing has been a great PR success for the entertainment industry, but the comparison is not really valid.

Someone who sells information should have *zero* expectation that said information will remain secret or valuable after its sale. The flow of simple strings of 1s and 0s *cannot* be controlled, and that is just a practical fact regardless of what your moral stance on intellectual property is. The only safe secrets are those known to a single individual.

However if you keep complaining about it, it's only going to get worse.
I really wouldn't worry too much. This post is a little tasteless (no offense Don, just stating the perception) and will likely be taken down.

in b4, during, & after lots and lots of angry Hoke bashers...
In my opinion Hecklinksi was one of the better parts of coach Hoke's staff. He helped Gallon post the best season (by yardage) of any Michigan receiver ever as his position coach for 3 years, and he did a Heck of a job as recruiting coordinator as well.
It's easy for people to get that there's more to a job than whether it's division I, II, or III. It's unfortunate that so many people can only see the $$ and the prestige. You also have to take into account the culture, the location, what the move means for the coach's family, etc etc. I expect that coach Heck will do very well at CSU - Pueblo.

I mean it's simple right. Just throw it deep to Funchess!
My offense in Madden averages like, 12 yards per play. I totally would have done a better job running the team than Brady Hoke did last season
|15 weeks 1 day ago||gotta love the arrogance of||
gotta love the arrogance of Michigan fans who read an article on smart football and now think they are expert
picture this, DetroitBlue -- Devin Gardner recceives the snap and takes a deep drop... 3, 5 ,7 steps back into Michigan's veritable fortress of a pocket. Michigan's vaunted offensive line, led by all-star players like undersized Jack Miller and walk-on Graham Glasgow and true freshman Mason Cole, redirects the pass rush away from Gardner with ease. Gardner, calm and collected, icewater coursing through his veins, steps into a bullet which he lets fly downfield to leaping super-athlete Devin Funchess who despite his ankle injury sustained in week 2 easily beats his one-on-one coverage and despite his problems catchingt he football easily snags the ball for a TD! The band plays 'The Victors'
Now, can anybody tell me what's wrong with that picture?

|15 weeks 4 days ago||to me, the relationship||
to me, the relationship between coach smith and coach k reminds me a bit of the relaionship between woody and bo. obviously it didn't have the former student / former teacher thing going on, but for two figureheads of vehemently hated rivals, there was a whole lot of mutual admiration and respect. coach k even wore a carolina blue tie to coach smith's funeral -- a simple but classy gesture which nonetheless blew me away.
rough week here in chapel hill. dean smith passes at the tail end of an illustrious life of service, and three others who were just beginning theirs were taken from us in an act of senseless violence.
