They used to until the late …

They used to until the late ‘50s.  Looked great.  Don’t know why they quit unless it was a conference thing or NCAA.

You must be kidding!?!?

You must be kidding!?!?

Excellent article.  I was…

Excellent article.  I was never so upset as I was when the game-winning FG of Michigan’s Mike Langtry was waved off in the closed end of Ohio Stadium as the two officials claimed the kick was “too high” to determine if it was good in 1974.  There is no doubt they were intimidated by the raucous Ohio State fans sitting (standing) behind them..

Also, the denial of a Michigan touchdown on 4th and goal was very, very questionable in Ohio Stadium once again in 1954.

Yep, I saw ‘em both and it just deepened my love for Michigan Football.

You might be surprise!  …

You might be surprise!   Note: Don’t be.

How can he be in over his…

How can he be in over his head when pro s make 10 times $$$ What the coaches make.

his only mistake was leaving Michigan.

LBJ and Ohio State deserve…

LBJ and Ohio State deserve each other.  I believe they gave him an honorary locker a few years ago;  he never attended any college........

Does anyone know if Ohio…

Does anyone know if Ohio State graduates any of it’s football players who go on to become doctors, lawyers, engineers, etc?

There was a time when that did occur.

Great story and Steve…

Great story and Steve Everitt who was one cool dude.  Just a wonderful human being.

saw him get his jaw broken by a Notre Dame forearm under his face mask.  Blood all over the field   Steve missed ONE game.

Besides being the UM center, fee was the long snapper.  Broke his wrist one game so learned how to snap with the other hand in one week.

When the Browns moved to Baltimore, he was heartbroken and was the very LAST Cleveland Brown to leave the field.

Steve was much more than a football player.

Go Blue!

Btw, What ever happened to …

Btw, What ever happened to “Enthusiasm Unknown to Mankind?”

While I agree with you…

While I agree with you basically, are you also saying when UM isn’t playing any of the “Big 3” away we don’t send the band to ANY away games?

I think that the head coach at OSU has (had?) a large input if the band goes to an away game.  I was part of a community nonprofit musical organization that wanted them to play a concert on their way to Penn State because the coach was taking (asking) them to Happy Valley.  In this case the logistics didn’t work out.  It would have been great PR for them and they always try to oblige.  I’m sure the MMB is also very affable to as they look like a great bunch of young people.

Does JH have any say when UM is playing a big game away and the band would be a big boost for the team?  With the costs of attending Michigan and paying the coach $8-9 million a year, and a huge budget in the AD, I  think it would be an affordable undertaking every now and then.

Thanks.  Those damn Buckeye…

Thanks.  Those damn Buckeye fans are lying to me again!!

That’s because the…

That’s because the administration knows we are known world-wide as an academic institution and, thus, doesn’t care how our athletic teams fare.  Gee, they just might if we hit them in the $$$$$ pocketbook someday...

Ohio State always brings…

Ohio State always brings their band to Happy Valley and it’s not that much closer than Ann Arbor.

More school spirit?

I really like these stories…

I really love these stories from the past of the valiant heroes like Fritz Crisler and Bob Chappuis (whom I was fortunate to meet and introduce at a fundraiser.)

Bob Chappuis - What a nice man.  He told me the players were allowed to keep their ‘47 uniforms.  A friend of his son, I believe, asked to borrow it for a Halloween party in Ohio and he never got it back.

Football life did seem simpler back in those days and not the hate you see today.

Go Blue!

I will miss the honesty and…

I will miss the honesty and demeanor and old-fashioned ness of a great roundball junkie.  God bless you John Beilein.

I’ve seen many decades of Michigan sports and no one personifies what Michigan is all about than John.

Thank you for being our coach and best of luck with the Cavs.

I would go with No. 2 but it…

I would go with No. 2 but it must be something deeper than that:.

Could it be he simply became tired of Jimmy getting everything he asked for and JB winning and taking his team to greater heights...........

I like the idea of being a…

like the idea of being a cowboy or a lawman in the old west from 1870s to 1890s.  Can’t live forever and I’m getting my first pair of cowboy boots this week. You wouldn’t believe how many years I dreamed of getting them - like being a little kid and dreaming on Christmas Eve I got them only to be.......

I can’t help myself but I…

I can’t help myself but I detest OSU more and more each day.  It used to be for years their insufferable fans and that paragon of virtue, Woody Hayes.  Then it was also the football team and later the round ball team with the poor sport whose name escapes me in 92 I ojbelieve in a crushing loss to Michigan in the NCAAs and now hockey.  In fact, anything in red (scarlet to the purists.) !!

+1 Bacon

+1 Bacon and I always saw Fred Jackson as a fine RB coach.

Tom Brady is so GOAT at QB…

Tom Brady is so GOAT at QB he should be honored with a statue ASAP.  Here in Ohio, it drives Buckeye fans crazy that he is the GOAT but they admit the fact although out of pure disdain for anything *ichigan by a very few jerks some have audacity to bring up Montana or Elway.

Tom Brady is the embodiment of everything you want the GOAT to be.  May he play several more years if HE desires to do so.

God bless Tom Brady.

Perusing Ozone forum and…

Perusing Ozone forum and they are going off on UM and JH like they NEVER do anything so dastardly.  Just an amazing fan base.?

God bless GOAT Tom Brady.  A…

God bless GOAT Tom Brady.  A super human being who has taken great care of himself, is kind to all and is a MICHIGAN MAN!

I have great admiration for…

I have great admiration for our military.  Army and Michigan have a lot of history back when West Point was a powerhouse.  I think it’s great!!

THAT would be a great hire!!

THAT would be a great hire!!

I have felt this way for…

I have felt this way for some time.  UM definitely gets the short end of the stick and schedules always seem to favor the Buckeyes. Maybe Mr. Warde Manuel should get involved and cry foul? No??

Agree, and btw what’s wrong…

Agree, and btw what’s wrong with playing our service academies?

I knew Greg Mattison from…

I knew Greg Mattison from his first stint at Michigan.  Nice guy.  Then left for ND.  Happy when Brady brought him back.

I simply cannot fathom why he would go to Ohio State  Close to retirement.  Just ruined any legacy he might have earned at the University of Michigan and that’s a shame.

i perused a couple of osu forums and they are OBSESSED with Michigan and yet we can’t beat them.  Amazing and sad for them to have so much hate.

GO BLUE!

First, I am 76 years old. …

First, I am 76 years old.  My dad graduated from Michigan in the mid 1920s.  I saw my first UM-OSU game when I was 12 in 1954 with my best friend whose dad was an OSU alumnus and I was just shocked at all the slick, deceptive ball handling by the Michigan backfield.  UM jumped off to a 7-0 lead and drove down to the 1 foot line.  The UM fullback dove over but the referee placed the ball on the 6 inch line.  I was heartbroken.  Shortly, Hopalong Cassady ran for nearly a 60 yard scamper for OSU and they went on to win 21-7.  My buddy teased me unmercifully.

The next year the Ohio Turnpike opened and my dad and I drove to Ann Arbor on a bright sunny day.  I couldn’t believe the size of The Big House and I remember to this day the capacity was 97,239.

I immediately fell in love with the bright Michigan uniforms and THE MICHIGAN HELMET!!

In 1973, my wife and I went to a game and met most of the coaching staff in the little bar at the Campus Inn in Ann Arbor where the team stayed the night before home games. She told them how much I loved Michigan and they immediately asked me if I’d like to recruit for them in our home area in Ohio.  I was awed as alumni and friends could help recruit on a limited basis then.

The rest is history - going to many, many games, knowing Bo, the coaches and the great Don Canham.  My heart still melts when I see the UNIFORM and HELMET!!

I know I couldn’t watch…

I know I couldn’t watch Rumeal Robinson’s 2 free throws.  I would turn the sound down and leave the room.  When I would come back, Seton Hall had called another timeout to ice Robinson and there would be a commercial on.  This went on for at least 5 minutes but it seemed like an eternity.

I finally watched the winning foul shot and then Seton Hall came close to winning it with a long shot at the buzI immediately called my best friend and he said, “Did they win or lose?  I couldn’t watch it!”  Here we are 2 middle aged guys acting like a couple of little kids!!

You've got that right!!! …

You've got that right!!!  Hope it's appreciated.

The Ohio State boards have…

The Ohio State boards have JH already packing his bags and leaving.  Of course, they know more than we do so it must be true.....or is there a twinge of real concern that Jimmy might start kicking their butts quite frequently........

Let’s try this novel idea…

Let’s try this novel idea even before winning the B1G - Let’s beat Ohio State first!

His father, Thom, was coach…

His father, Thom, was coach at my high school when Maurice Clarret and Mario Manningham went there.  Thom thought very highly of Jim Tressel and, strictly on hearsay, didn’t seem to care much for UM.  But, that’s the normal inclination of Ohio people.

Ben comes from great bloodlines as Thom was a heck of a coach and disciplinarian.  Should be a great fit and I’m sure he has many Ohio contacts.

This is just sad.  This…

This is just sad.  This football-crazed school of “higher learning” will soon probably name Jim Tressel as president without a Ph.D to replace their President Drake whom hasnt exactly been pleased with the the football operation of late.

Don’t ever be surprised.

”Winning above all else!”

I was rejected way back in…

I was rejected way back in the day.  I later found out all it took was a phone call from my dad who was a Michigan grad.  Being out of state, possibly he realized the strain it would be on the family pocketbook.

i must say I graduated first in my School of Business class and my dad promised me a new Mustang, that had just debuted, if I kept my 4.00 mid term grades.  I did and had the first Mustang in my town.  Only problem was I sold it six years later.  Maybe UM knew what they we’doing!  Lol!! ???

Tell that to the descendants…

Tell that to the descendants of the sailors killed at Pearl Harbor.  Also, you don’t think Hitler wouldn’t want to come over here if he could?  Puhleeze.

Btw, the term used about the Japanese was only used by those engaged in war with them.  Not today.

Pro football coaches really…

Looks like a lot of opposition to him ever returning but you never know.....

Pro football coaches really…

Pro football coaches really don’t coach other than the. Coordinators.  Don’t hang Brady’s dismissal from the Panthers on him.

I now understand your…

I now understand your feelings.  Until another time, God bless you and your wife.

Yes, sir, I served in the…

Yes, sir, I served in the military.

I also dont care to carry on a conversation with anyone who continues to call me ignorant.

May the Good Lord bless you and keep you.

I do NOT use the N word and…

I do NOT use the N word and never did nor do I refer to anyone of Japanese descent by anything other than  Japanese.  So know what you’re talking about before calling someone ignorant

Yes, Hoke was a great D line…

Yes, Hoke was a great D line coach and an even better recruiter.  Plus, Greg Mattison is getting up there.

Brady loves Michigan and doesn’t have the ego to think he couldn’t dare take a step backwards.

Laugh all you want but these…

You are clueless.  Laugh all you want but these guys fought their asses off so you could make remarks like that.

Btw, he would have been 100…

Btw, he would have been 100 years old in Nov. and died back in the 80s before political correctness swept the country.

Listen, pal, you are…

Listen, pal, you are comparing apples and oranges.  When you’re fighting against an enemy EVERY DAY who is trying to kill you and take over your country for 4 years I don’t think you might be so politically correct either.

Sad, but Pearl Harbor Days…

Sad, but Pearl Harbor Days seems to be losing a little relevance in recent years.  Maybe it’s because “The Greatest Generation” have all pretty much died off.

Agreed.  My uncle fought…

Agreed.  My uncle fought against them for nearly 4 years in the Pacific and he said to him they will always be Japs.  Guess what these guys went through you can’t fault them in any way.

Could you explain more…

Could you explain more specifically how Ohio State and Oklahoma are “tied at the hip?”

Meyer is not leaving…

Meyer is not leaving Columbus.  He could even coach next year by remote control.  As soon as Day stumbles (even losing once to Michigan) Meyer will return to lead the great Buckeye Nation to their rightful position as second only to Saban and Alabama’s.

Halo - This is just a great…

Halo - This is just a great post.  Thanks.  It’s true.  The whole friggin state puts all their energy into winning one game - Michigan.  I think it’s a derivative of an inferiority complex.
