Diabate was super raw when…

Diabate was super raw when he got here. It felt like he was less super raw when he left. He started coming into his own.

I’m giving Juwan credit for Tarris’ in season development as a freshman and figure some of the sophomore plateau on Juwan’s health issues that you touched on.

See, I think it was more…

See, I think it was more circumstance than development while he was here. He developed tremendously as a freshman. He was the difference in the state game and was the reason why we were able to fight back in the second IU game in 2023. TJD absolutely abused hunter. Indiana’s entire game plan was to have TJD iso hunter and it worked until Juwan adjusted and put Tarris in.

The development thing isn’t a fair knock against Tarris or Juwan. Juwan developed players like Bufkin and Diabate to the point where they were draftable. They problem is that they didn’t come back to improve their stock, which was the reason why Beilein left after iggy

Good for him. I think he’ll make a huge impact for them and keep them rolling. He’s been a great teammate here and really covered some of hunters shortcomings on the boards and defensively as a freshman.

I have a hard time believing that the refs blows the whistle if the roles were reversed and Caitlin has the ball for the chance at the win.

Champions Circle launched a March for May campaign as soon as he took the job. We had five for football and zero for basketball with Juwan.

They gave May the support that Juwan asked for.

Clark has been possessed this quarter. I’m pretty sure Angel’s ankle has been impacting her. She was 6-8 before the injury 1-9 since

Clark did a good bit of her…

Clark did a good bit of her damage with Reese off the floor. 3/4 shooting for 7 points in the three minutes she was out. 4/9 shooting with 3 turnovers with Angel on the floor.

Angel’s stat line was 13 pts, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks, 0 turnovers.

Clark’s stat line 19 pts, 1 rebound, 5 assists, 0 steals, 0 blocks, 3 turnovers.

Yeah. It’s not a great pool of realistic candidates. I liked Paris and Abdur-Rahim.

It wasn't an issue during…

It wasn't an issue during the Beilien years because the ncaa transfer rules were different.

I think when and how is the problem. Fans didn't want to wait a year. But I think if they restructured Juwan’s contract the way they did with Harbaugh in 2020 and spent the next few months working on a succession plan and fixing NIL we would’ve been in a better position with or without Juwan in 25-26.

Warde has a penchant for caving. I think he caved to fan pressure without the foresight of actually having an infrastructure set up for the next coach to succeed.

This “mess” is more…

This “mess” is more indicative of the systemic issues with michigan basketball right now. I don’t think anyone would be sweating if they knew that we could effectively rebuild with a brand new roster of all-Americans.

look at what osu did with football. They went gangbusters in free agency and locked up Caleb Downs and Quinshon Judkins. They used the transfer portal and NIL to do something about getting put in their rightful place.

We don’t have that luxury. I guess a few MGoBloggers can crowdfund $10M+ change some McDonald all-American’s minds. Other than that, we’re stuck with grad transfer rentals like Joey baker

Portal players like Caleb…

Portal players like Caleb Love and Terrance Shannon Jr.?

Good thing we have solid NIL…

Good thing we have solid NIL foundation and reasonable transfer credit system for the next coach, presumably jay wright or steve Kerr, to build a contender from the ground up

Most grad transfers enroll…

Most grad transfers enroll in certificate programs, not master’s degree programs.

Admissions became a much…

Admissions became a much bigger problem after he took the job because of the changes to the transfer rules.

Admissions wasn't that big of a deal when he took the job because everyone was pretty much limited to grad transfers. The disadvantage came when they opened it up because now you have your players leaving whenever, but now you're limited to Freshman and grad transfers. While every other team in the country can get undergrad transfers. It's a one-way street. Hunter played 3 seasons at Michigan, didn't graduate, and transferred to Kansas for NIL.

People bring up football, but there's a much greater talent pool of grad transfers in football than there is in basketball because more good players redshirt, you have to wait three years before you can go pro, and football players start a college a two semesters (winter and spring/summer term) and graduate in three years now.

Look at JJ for example. He graduated and entered the draft before he turned 21. He could've been a grad transfer had he decided to take that route. That's not happening in basketball.

But if we are to take…

But if we are to take Sanderson and Quinn at face value, Juwan "manhandled" Jett in front of everyone.

I just don’t like gard or…

I just don’t like gard or Wisconsin. The thing about the gard situation that got me was that Howard walked by gard and gard grabbed him. He shouldn’t have done that. That entire situation soured me on Warde too. Krab and gard were in the wrong as well, but Warde bent over for them and the Wisconsin administration. I’m pretty sure Warde led the candlelight vigil for gard later that evening.

I think the Sanderson thing stemmed from the trainer and Sanderson calling Jace soft and Jace having concerns over his rehab. Michigan has a top tier medical program, but I’m not sure about the medical training staff. People are quick to go point to Howard’s history of altercations as an indictment of his guilt in this situation, but Michigan’s training staff has a not so great. Jace got a second opinion from the same surgeon as cade. That surgeon raised concerns about the training staff.

There’s a well known Michigan athlete who continued raised concerns to Michigan’s training staff, they didn’t treat it properly, he ended up injuring that body part that he was complaining about and lost millions.

I get why Jace and Juwan were frustrated with Sanderson. He called the kid out for being soft after one of the top orthopedic surgeons in the world said that Sanderson wasn’t treating the injury properly.

The admissions issues have…

The admissions issues have nothing to do with academic rigor. It’s the credits they don’t accept. Here’s Myles Hinton talking about Michigan not accepting a bunch of his Stanford credits
I get that Stanford is a small school in California, but I’ve heard this rumor that they have a pretty selective admissions process in their own right.

I mean, he recruited Caleb…

I mean, he recruited Caleb Love and Terrance Shannon Jr. both are all-Americans this season

Yeah, everything has been a…

Yeah, everything has been a blur since COVID so I be forgetting some things, I don’t remember Juwan having a Brendan gibbons or Shane morris type of situation during his 5 years here.

Honestly, gard had it coming…

Honestly, gard had it coming. No one likes Turgeon, but that was on Juwan.
Everyone on here is on team Sanderson, but we really only got one side of the story. Juwan was defending his son. Sanderson was defending his staff.

Sad day. I’m a big fan of…

Sad day. I’m a big fan of Juwan and what he did here. He’s done a ton for the university and many of us wouldn’t be on MGoBlog today if it weren’t for him and the Fab Five.

I hope he learns from his time here and becomes a better coach moving forward. Hopefully, this means that Warde and the NIL team put the next coach in a position to succeed here

I guess I spoke too soon

I guess I spoke too soon

Maybe they do what most…

Maybe they do what most programs do and started putting out feelers through back channels. Maybe the consensus from those coaches were that our NIL and admissions situations are not ideal.

I can’t think of too many coaches that would want to take over this roster without the luxury of even being able to bring their players with them.

It seems like Warde has taken steps to address the NIL. He made hires and signed the partnerships last month that opened things up and ended the Champions Circle monopoly. I posted a comment before showing that cc just wasn’t at the level of competing collectives. They’ve neglected basketball and I think Warde opening it up and getting actual experts involved with make a big difference.

Admissions is another beast, but I think now Warde can show potential candidates that he will arm them to put together a competitive roster.

We have one side of the…

We have one side of the story with the Sanderson thing. Sanderson filed a formal complaint and they investigated it. My understanding is Sanderson wanted to sit down after he filed the complaint. It doesn’t work like that.

Jace wasn’t the first athlete to have an issue with the medical training staff, nor was Juwan the first parent.

all three could’ve and should’ve handled it better, but Sanderson burned the bridge when he filed the complaint and leaked a narrative that wasn’t quite accurate

What’s lazy recruiting?…

What’s lazy recruiting? Getting all Americans to commit only to have admissions take away credits they earned?

I wooshed. I’ll blame it on…

I wooshed. I’ll blame it on still working through my coffee.you never know though. You have people on here that believe the Beilein and John wooden are begging Warde for the job

I absolutely can’t see Oats…

I absolutely can’t see Oats working out here especially after the gunplay in Tuscaloosa last year. It’s a cultural mismatch.

Wright and Drew would be great pickups, but why would they leave home for us? Jay retired at that top and Scott Drew is in an ideal spot. The michigan job is too much of a headache right now.

Maybe they can get an NIL roster bump, but they’d have to rebuild and admissions won’t help them with that.

Do other viable options…

Do other viable options really exist though? What top level coach would want to come into this situation over other vacancies?

This roster is a product of the infrastructure and administrative and NIL handcuffs. We all know that admissions cost us Love and TSJ. All of our NIL manpower has gone towards football. CC has had the zinter, those who stay, one more year, and MPower campaigns. I can’t think of a single one for basketball. You get what you pay for

Dickinson, Love, and TSJ were each 1st team all conference and on an all American team this season.

Dug, Love, TSJ, Reed, Dickinson would’ve been a lethal 5. But, were left with a roster with 0 all conference nods. Not even a single honorable mention.

1) Hard for me to take it as…

1) Hard for me to take it as seriously as I would w Grayson Allen next to saban

2) That sound bite highlights how much things have changed. Now he knows what recruits felt like after in-home visits when the parents would remind them that coaches just care about how much they can make off you.

3) NIL itself isnt the issue. The issue is the fact that the NCAA had years to do the right thing, fought tooth and nail against progress and equity, then only cobbled together some guidelines after the Supreme Court had a gun their their heads the same way I used scribble some shit down seconds before my homework was due. The collectives are the issue and that’s on the NCAA. This NIL collective model isn’t sustainable. We’re crowdsourcing paychecks for players at the detriment of programs. Donations that went to athletic departments are funneled to specific players. Regular fans are literally paying in hopes that their favorite players come back for another year. Resentment will grow to new levels when those players don’t perform because we won’t feel like we got a return on our monetary investment. And the highs of winning with players you personally paid for will diminish with each ring.

It’s more dangerous than pro sports because we don’t pay out of pocket to keep Jared Goff in Detroit or to sign free agents. Could you imagine if we had this model here in the NFL? If y’all paid Stafford to win 0 playoff games in Detroit? I’d have a tough time believing he’d have the same love that he has now.

Exactly. And Beilein bounced…

Exactly. And Beilein bounced before NIL and transfer easing because he was tired of the one and done’s.

Yeah. I wonder what the…

Yeah. I wonder what the analytics said about deboer a year into his research or even 3 months before they hired him

I don't know how much Milton…

I don't know how much Milton Klatt actually watched. He's super high on Nix, but low on Milton. Fine, but then knocked Joe's ability to layer and add touch and then said, 'just look at the tape'. Joe showed that he was capable of making every throw during the combine and hit his go routes in stride. Meanwhile, Nix's combine tape didn't really dispel the arm strength questions. Nix completed the first go in stride, was like 5+ yards short on his next go route, 5+ yards long on his third go, and then well short on the comeback route after that. But, he has “quiet feet” so he’s a first rounder

I watched just about every game he played in and he's solid. People talk about his overthrows, but he had a great throwing session in the combine. He had a really solid career and unfortunately for Joe, his legacy is stuck to four games; Wisconsin 2020, Rutgers 2020, Bowling Green 2021, and Pitt 2021.

His numbers in those games were 32 for 66 (48.5%) 376 1 td 2 ints 95.3 qbr.

Since then, he was a 64% passer with 32 tds, 5 ints and 155.9 qbr at Tennessee.

His 2020 numbers before his thumb injury at Michigan were 65-107 (60.7%) 869 4 tds, 2 ints and 137.6 qbr.

There's zero doubt in my mind that the torn thumb ligaments, which required surgery, killed his performance and impacted perception. He's a really solid qb and better than he gets credit for. But that's life in the big leagues.

HUGE difference between 2019…

HUGE difference between 2019 and 2020. Three NFL receivers (DPJ, Nico, and Tarik) on the 2019 team. 2020 receivers were Ronnie Bell, CJ, Giles Jackson, Mike Sainristril, and Roman Wilson

He has a point about 2020…

He has a point about 2020. He did a horrible job play calling and putting us in 3rd and longs by running up the middle on first and second every drive, but I don't think people really realize how inexperienced our roster really was.

Aside from Ronnie Bell, our receivers came in with less than 25 career receptions. We ranked 137 out of 138 in returning receiving production of all big ten teams since 2013, which is insane. Our offensive line had a combined 2 starts coming into the season and our best lineman, Mayfield, got hurt before declaring for the draft. It was our 5th worst defense, according to SP+ since 1970.

I would’ve loved to have seen Worthy in JJ and Joe’s group

I'm not sure if Kansas is…

I'm not sure if Kansas is really the best place for developing talent. They remind me of State and Izzo and that category.

Self has only had 3 lottery picks and one top 10 since 2015 despite having 9 five star and 13  four star commits. He's had twice as many final four appearances as lottery pics in that time.

I'm pretty sure he played corner against the Penn St team that was number 1 in the country until they lost to Minnesota the week before they played us.
