That hit close to home. I wish I could upvote this piece. Instead, you should know that I just pointed at my monitor a la Hoke.

I have a good feeling about this season. I think the last two years have shown that freshmen can contribute immediately (especially freshmen forwards), and the goaltender situation is settled. The d-corps will always give me the heebie-jeebies until I see how they work together on the ice, but I think they're a Tournament team again. That's the bar for me right now. Get back in the Tournament and the season will seem successful.

I love the US national team. I love it in the way you can only love your wife: I chose it. It was not given to me by my father, like Michigan was. As something approximating an adult I made a decision.
Never has something I've read on this blog struck so close to home. My mom is a State alum and raised me with the hope that I would eventually be a Spartan. I thought I would too, until the last few months of high school. I couldn't do it. I chose Michigan. Brian's right, things are different when you choose to love them.

Interesting stuff. I'd like to hear from Nussmeier exactly how involved he is with coaching the OL.

I cover Detroit's prospects for Hockey's Future and Larkin was my pick in the staff mock draft, so I'm pretty excited about this pick. I think it's a great fit for both parties. Trading Jarnkrok and Sheahan earning a full-time NHL gig thinned the prospect ranks up the middle in the Wings system. Larkin gets time to develop and, though unlikely that he stays four years, he won't be rushed to join the pro ranks.
He's a great skater, he can score, and he plays defense. Can't ask for much more in a center.

I had him as well and I can't recommend him highly enough. The rare professor who is both easy to interact with and a great educator.

I was reading about 4-3 Over last night and wondering how Michigan's personnel would fit. Looks like I don't have to wonder anymore.

If you're worried about how he might transition from the NHL to college I'd recommend reading Babcock's book about the 2010 Olympics. It's a great look into his coaching philosophy.

I've gone back and forth on calling out individual players all season. There are times where I have, but as a general rule of thumb I try not to. It wasn't easy, especially watching the defensive issues Center Ice was referring to.
|16 weeks 5 days ago||Good luck to them at the next||
Good luck to them at the next level. Michigan will miss their offensive skill, but next year's roster will still feature some very talented forwards. My concern continues to be on defense.

This was a good weekend despite Friday's loss. I was in the corner of Michigan's offensive zone during the first period and guys were flying on the forecheck; what I thought might be the difference between watching live and watching on TV was actually just evidence of the "good" Michigan team showing up.
|19 weeks 4 days ago||I completely agree, and not||
I completely agree, and not just because they actually scored. I think it does suit the personnel better. Anything that can get some of those outside shooters going (we know who they are) is beneficial and practically necessary at this point.
And thanks for pointing out that OSU was using the diamond. There were times where it looked to me like it was a box, but now that you mention it some of the areas that their coverage broke down make more sense for it to have been a diamond.
|19 weeks 4 days ago||There are things that he did||
There are things that he did that cannot be measured by statistics. At least, not yet. We're lucky to have had the pleasure of watching him every night for as long as we all did. I doubt there will ever be a defenseman who makes more mistake-free simple plays; think about whether you've ever seen him make a bad pass in the defensive zone.
The goals were great, the Cups were wonderful, but there may never be anyone again who could so effortlessly drive a forward on the rush into the corner. He was and will always be my all-time favorite player.

I'm still excited by the prospect of Michigan making the tournament, so for me winning the B1G championship is icing on an already decadent cake.

Really cool stuff. I like the night shots, but the Big House video was great too.

Where does Hockey go from here? They recruit puck-moving defensemen and hope they don't decommit or leave early.
|21 weeks 3 days ago||What I'd say is going on is||
What I'd say is going on is that he's dealing with lots of shots coming off turnovers thanks to a D that has an enormous amount of trouble moving the puck out of the defensive zone.

I agree with you about Nagelvoort trying to corral the rebound. It looked to me like Serville was trying to get his stick on the player but I could be wrong.

Thanks! I'd love to do goal videos to go along with the pictures but for now I just don't have time to do it. I'd like to try it in the future though.
|24 weeks 6 days ago||Yeah, that one doesn't upset||
Yeah, that one doesn't upset me. I don't necessarily have anything against collapsing, it's just going to give up point shots. I didn't see it hit Sinelli's ankle but that makes sense, it was a flukey goal.

I'm doing my GBGA and couldn't find video of this game anywhere. goblue16, you're my new hero.
Oh, and Gordon Berenson, you're also my hero for posting those time marks.
|26 weeks 4 days ago||It's well defended relative||
It's well defended relative to other scoring chances Michigan's given up over the past few weeks. A defender sticks with his man behind the net, an extra defenseman doesn't chase behind the net, and Compher makes an intelligent switch to tie up the netfront guy.
It's not perfect, though. The defenders have sagged too far into the faceoff circles to block a shot from the blueline. It's just that I'd rather give up a shot from the blueline than a shot from the faceoff dots on in.
|26 weeks 4 days ago||If I had to pick one pet||
If I had to pick one pet peeve with this team it's this. To answer your question no, I don't think it's that hard to make the first pass out of the zone. It seems to me that guys are overthinking. Look, pass, keep moving the puck forward.

The Photobucket-induced panic is over, I upgraded. Thanks for pointing that out and glad you found the article humorous.
|27 weeks 3 days ago||I know the popular narrative||
I know the popular narrative is that Michigan isn't getting goals from their defensemen but I really would just like defensemen (aside from Bennett) that can move the puck out of the D-zone and start the rush.
Also, I agree with Gordong Berenson about the passing issue. Truly bad so far.
