I completely agree, and not just because they actually scored. I think it does suit the personnel better. Anything that can get some of those outside shooters going (we know who they are) is beneficial and practically necessary at this point.
And thanks for pointing out that OSU was using the diamond. There were times where it looked to me like it was a box, but now that you mention it some of the areas that their coverage broke down make more sense for it to have been a diamond.

There are things that he did that cannot be measured by statistics. At least, not yet. We're lucky to have had the pleasure of watching him every night for as long as we all did. I doubt there will ever be a defenseman who makes more mistake-free simple plays; think about whether you've ever seen him make a bad pass in the defensive zone.
The goals were great, the Cups were wonderful, but there may never be anyone again who could so effortlessly drive a forward on the rush into the corner. He was and will always be my all-time favorite player.

I'm still excited by the prospect of Michigan making the tournament, so for me winning the B1G championship is icing on an already decadent cake.

Really cool stuff. I like the night shots, but the Big House video was great too.

Where does Hockey go from here? They recruit puck-moving defensemen and hope they don't decommit or leave early.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||What I'd say is going on is||
What I'd say is going on is that he's dealing with lots of shots coming off turnovers thanks to a D that has an enormous amount of trouble moving the puck out of the defensive zone.

I agree with you about Nagelvoort trying to corral the rebound. It looked to me like Serville was trying to get his stick on the player but I could be wrong.

Thanks! I'd love to do goal videos to go along with the pictures but for now I just don't have time to do it. I'd like to try it in the future though.
|6 weeks 5 days ago||Yeah, that one doesn't upset||
Yeah, that one doesn't upset me. I don't necessarily have anything against collapsing, it's just going to give up point shots. I didn't see it hit Sinelli's ankle but that makes sense, it was a flukey goal.

I'm doing my GBGA and couldn't find video of this game anywhere. goblue16, you're my new hero.
Oh, and Gordon Berenson, you're also my hero for posting those time marks.
|8 weeks 3 days ago||It's well defended relative||
It's well defended relative to other scoring chances Michigan's given up over the past few weeks. A defender sticks with his man behind the net, an extra defenseman doesn't chase behind the net, and Compher makes an intelligent switch to tie up the netfront guy.
It's not perfect, though. The defenders have sagged too far into the faceoff circles to block a shot from the blueline. It's just that I'd rather give up a shot from the blueline than a shot from the faceoff dots on in.

If I had to pick one pet peeve with this team it's this. To answer your question no, I don't think it's that hard to make the first pass out of the zone. It seems to me that guys are overthinking. Look, pass, keep moving the puck forward.

The Photobucket-induced panic is over, I upgraded. Thanks for pointing that out and glad you found the article humorous.
|9 weeks 2 days ago||I know the popular narrative||
I know the popular narrative is that Michigan isn't getting goals from their defensemen but I really would just like defensemen (aside from Bennett) that can move the puck out of the D-zone and start the rush.
Also, I agree with Gordong Berenson about the passing issue. Truly bad so far.

Though he may only miss a couple of series for Michigan you have to feel bad for him for not being able to experience the WJC.

Well, Seth, I have to agree with you; I like doing the goal analysis things better as well. I'll be posting one for Monday's OSU game, the NTDP game, and next Wednesday's Ferris State game all together sometime after the 18th because grad school.
|14 weeks 3 days ago||I like goal differential||
I like goal differential because of its correlation to winning percentage, and I agree that Michigan isn't as good as thee record indicates. The strange thing is the goals that's have been adding towards that differential haven't necessarily been coming in the periods M has played their best.
|14 weeks 3 days ago||I agree. I get the theory||
I agree. I get the theory behind putting Dwyer in; he gets some in-game experience that he might not get the rest of the year. I also think the cons outweigh the pros, because now he's given up 3 goals in about 6 minutes of ice time and his confidence is likely shot.
|14 weeks 3 days ago||I can't come up with anything||
I can't come up with anything other than jokes about the Dwyer situation which means:
1. I agree with the confusion
2. This must be some sort of a defense mechanism

Who knew that John U. Bacon was masquerading as Gordon Berenson?
Fantastic work, loved every bit of it.
|18 weeks 5 days ago||I like Dan too. In fact, I||
I like Dan too. In fact, I was wondering the same thing re: the two goalies. I think the hot hand phenomenon is interesting, but it's relevant in this instance that Michigan doesn't play again until November 15th. With that much time I'd think Racine will be healthy enough to go and a Friday/Saturday split start system will be used.

Exactly! All that's missing is Vince Guaraldi's "Christmas Time is Here."
|18 weeks 6 days ago||This team is very fun to||
This team is very fun to watch. Guys dig along the boards to win puck battles and forecheck hard. Add in the continued emergence of Copp as a tremendous two-way forward and it's been a great first month of the season.

Indeed there were. In fact, I wrote about that in my article published in this very blog's hoops and hockey preview, available here (/shameless plug).
I agree with you re: Mel Pearson. I found myself thinking the exact same thing while watching the game Saturday night.
